I had an appointment with Katelyn last night. I've had my fair share of misses. This was my best…read moreexperience with a stylist that I can recall!!! I'm happy to say Katelyn really gave me great service. She is very relaxing, very present. She communicates and listens really really well. I'm wearing a beautiful mane of silky tresses that had winter snarls eating my ends. And I've grown out my hair for 4 years. Lots of gray, silver, and some gold and ashy blonde woven into my hair now. It's mostly my hair. It's been looking dull and the tangles were ruining my ease of daily hair life. She cut off the exact amount needed before shampoo and I was relaxed at the sink. Water temp was perfect, neck didn't hurt. My hair is so soft and my color, without any treatment, already looks way better to me!! My final rave of appreciation for Katelyn's skills is that she followed me on everything I discussed. She explained the logic behind the simple cut now (growing bangs out) and going for the layers I'm looking for later. A+++! And she understood the touch of color, or more complex color ideas and we were in sync on what's next. The Consultation was really the best I can recall. She feels like she could do her magic in her sleep. She's very comfortable with what she does and she does it well.

I was looking to get the remaining red undertones lifted out of my hair, to maintain a shade that…read morewas a bit lighter than my natural color (brown), and I was very clear that I did NOT want distinct / chunky blonde highlights. In summary: less red, closer to blonde than my natural hair color is, and NOT chunky highlights. I've included a photo of my hair color before for reference. The stylist I saw was so lovely and friendly! She did a very good job lifting out the red with color remover, leaving it pretty light, and then dyed it back to a base brown color. These highlights did not come out very well at all. My total for this appointment was $215, and I do not feel that the outcome reflects this cost. These pictures are from a day after the appointment. I contacted the store with the same pictures and expressed my concerns and the owner responded to me very quickly (within an hour or so!). She then told me that she spoke with the (again, very lovely) stylist. I do think it is important to note that this stylist was remedying a similar highlight situation on a different client at the same time as my appointment. The owner offered me the solution to either also remedy with the same stylist, or to pay full price to see a different stylist. I am a little worried to see the same stylist (NOT because of her personality or anything, but because of this outcome, which appears to have also happened to another lady very recently), but I cannot afford to pay this price again. The owner was not willing to entertain a partial refund, remedy with an alternate stylist at a reduced cost, or store credit towards a future service. The owner was very quick to respond which I did appreciate and the stylist was so nice. I will update this review if I do end up having a different outcome, but just wanted to share my experience, and I feel a little embarrassed to be wearing this hair color situation out in public! Yikes! Hope it all works out for my hair.

I love Manocas salon and have been going there for about a year. If you're someone who colors your…read morehair regularly and wants amazing results, pick a stylist and stick with them! I've been seeing Brittany for about a year, and when I would re-balayage my hair, she did an excellent job filling in the gaps and maintaining my hair length/ health because she was able to build off of her own work. I later went and got blue hair from Brittany! She fully achieved my "mermaid goals" and told me what length and styling was best for my thin/ long hair type. I listened to her suggestions and we worked together to get my blue hair absolutely perfect! This is the only place in Blacksburg I fully trust with my hair color and cut.

After a lot of tears, the woman finally decided to do a toner, which helped but could only help so much since she made my hair look practically grey. This hair was supposed to be a honey golden blonde and turned out grey. What I asked for vs what I got all I wanted was the ends of my hair to match my roots and that was not what was delivered these stylists do not know how to simply match a color and I ended up with a green and grey hair.
