The stylist told my son who is autistic and has epilepsy to scoot all the way to the back of the chair. He has trouble following or understanding directions so she had to ask a few times. When he finally did understand what she was asking she looked at me rolled her eyes and said "that's why girls are smarter than boys" I was in shock. Then she said "women are smarter than men" I honestly don't think she even realized that she had just basically called my son stupid. I had always taken my kids there because it was inexpensive and close to home. I won't anymore. I'm just glad my son didn't pick up on what she was saying and get his feelings hurt because mine sure were hurt. read more

Closed Early Again. Great Clips really needs to hire staff who care. Arrived today well before 6:00PM and was told as I walked in that they had closed. I get it that they were bored and wanted to get away - but either its open until 6 or change the opening times to prevent unnecessary trips by your customers. On a previous visit the stylist had her son at work with her, and was tremendously distracted - despite asking several times for no longer than a finger length - I got home to find it about 2" long - I went back the following week and had to pay to get it re-cut this time the right length - I think its time to start looking for another place to cut my hair. I lived in Manhattan for 11 years and would pay 60 for a men's haircut. Here, it's actually affordable and they LISTEN to what you want. They also give you a great cut every time. I had mine cut most recently by Sienna (so sorry if I got her name wrong, it was 8/18/18 at 10:30 am). It is hands down the best haircut I've ever had in my life and I'm VERY particular. Went in for a cut and style. Hairdresser seemed "on" something. Kept dropping combs. Put so much leave in conditioner in my hair that it remained wet and dried greasy. Didn't style it at all. Burned my scalp with blowing on hot too close to my head, used her hands instead of a brush. Said styling it would cost an extra $20 which I was prepared to pay for because I wanted it dried and styled. She never once took a brush to it. She didn't taper the sides like I asked and showed her pictures of. Very off putting experience. Never again. read more

I walked into the salon at 8:05pm, their hours listed both online and on the physical store say open until 9pm. After a brief wait my hair was cut by a blonde woman who smelled like smoke/cigarettes. She was very clearly in a rush to get me out of the store (perhaps to try and close before the 9pm timeframe) and gave me one of the WORST haircuts of my life, she totally scalped me! read more

When you work in customer service, whether it be providing an 8.99 haircut or serving a $500 bottle of wine- you job is to provide a positive experience. We arrived and were ultimately ignored by the stylist as they were discussing how many they "did" yesterday. My son sat down to get the sides of his head shaved, we were uncertain about what clip they were going to use- so they said they would start longer and then we could decide. I walked over and asked if that was it or my son wanted shorter - when he said he wanted shorter - the woman looked at me and in a snarky voice said a "I asked him 3 times" rolled her eyes and grabbed the clippers - I am giving this 1 star because of the one nice stylist, the younger stylist with the long red hair at the front. Never again - Willis not recommend or return no matter what the price- It's true- "you get what you pay for" read more

The worst hair cut I've ever had. I'm very low maintenance so I just asked for the woman to cut a few inches off of my hair and that was it. I have somewhat curly hair and I was surprised that she did not wet my hair before cutting it. I figured she knew what she was doing and just let her cut my hair. I also often wear my hair up. When I finally needed to wear my hair down I straightened it to find out my hair was butchered at two different lengths. When I went back to have it fixed the girl working was so appalled at how it looked she took a picture of it and told me she would use this as a "what not to do look". read more

Although it is a convenient place to get a haircut for my boys, it is very inconsistent. Sometimes they do a good job, the next time, awful. My son recently got his haircut and the top is so uneven and choppy. I don't think I would bring him back. There are many other barbershops around that are cheaper and better. read more

DON'T do it. You will be sorry! I visited this shop during their grand opening because I like to support local businesses. What a mistake! I specifically asked for an experienced haircutter. I was "served" by some guy who looked like a biker who just wandered into the shop, covered with tattoos and piercings. I asked for him to trim my sideburns and clean up around my ears. He grabbed a clipper and asked ME what number guard to use. (I have no idea what guard number is.) He then proceeded to run his clipper across the sides and back of my head, assuring me that he was not making my hair too short. After a minute or so, he held up a mirror for me to view the back of my head and I observed that I now had two additional bald spots, in addition to the one I started with. He had clipped my hair down to the scalp and completely left the bottom untouched. What a mess. This is unquestionably the worst botched cut that I have ever seen. Apparently this shop just hands people a clipper and "POOF" they are an instant haircutter. Since there were children in the shop, I did not express my anger at this betrayal. I am now wearing a hat to hide this mess. Later that day I called the shop and spoke to the manager, Debbie, who invited me in so she could try to fix the mess. She agreed to try to blend the bald spots over the next several weeks while the scalped areas grow back. She promised that the owner would give me a call at home to apologize, but the call never came. Even in the face of this scalping that the manager admitted was a horribly botched mistake, the owner did not have the courtesy to apologize. read more

This was my second time going to Great Clips in Newtown. Both times I was very pleased with my haircuts. However, on this visit my husband dropped me off and was going into the nearby Stop & Shop to pick up a few things and then would come get and pay for my cut. You see I didn't bring my purse with me and I had pants without pockets so I didn't want to have to hold a credit card in my hand. You might ask what lady doesn't carry a purse-well I no longer do, usually, due to health issues- even that small thing is difficult for me. In any event, my husband came and paid with credit card and made small talk with Manager about nice haircut....because of this goings on, my husband signed the $16.00 receipt and innocently forgot to tip. He realized when we saw credit card charge two weeks later and we recounted story together because you see we got charged for $23.00, so basically Great Clips entered a $7.00 (44%) tip. WOW!, if I could afford 44% tips I would not be going to Great Clips. I sometimes would think giving whoever a tip in cash was nice, not that I've did this time, but I now never would understanding anything could be keyed in... I would just say make sure you enter tip on receipt so you cannot be taken advantage of- if it was $3. Or $4. We wouldn't have given the charge a second look. The day after charge on credit card (today) my husband went in to complain and was going to ask for $4. Back and the girl called the manager who was off this day and said Manager apparently said give him the $7.00 and so she did. I will not go back there again after that fraudulent experience but I hope this review helps people going there so they don't get scammed also. If it wasn't for this experience I would have given them a 4 star rating just for haircut. read more
