I decided to try Great Clips for a haircut. Unfortunately, this visit turned out to be a disaster. Based on what I went through, I strongly recommend that anyone who does not want to face hostility or humiliation for a paid haircut should avoid Great Clips. On the afternoon of August 16, 2025, I visited the Great Clips shop at Kapolei Commons, 4459 Kapolei Parkway, Ste 102, Kapolei, Hawaii. I asked Krista to cut my hair. She assured me she knew how to do the "Gentleman" cut I requested, explaining that she was the shop manager with seven years of experience. However, when she finished and asked if I was satisfied, I looked in the mirror and saw that my hair was nothing like the style I had asked for. The top was cut far too short, and the sides were uneven. I pointed this out to her, but instead of addressing my concern, she simply walked away without explanation. After a short wait, another barber approached and asked me to move to her chair. When I asked what was happening, she told me that Krista "was a little uncomfortable." I explained again that I wanted a "Gentleman" cut. She said she could only try to fix it as best as possible. After a few minutes, she asked me to check the mirror. At that point, a third barber, who unrelentingly told me upon request her name was Ginny, came over and, in a harsh tone, ordered me to "make a payment and leave" because I was "not welcome." Her attitude was aggressive and dismissive. Shocked, I asked what I had done wrong. She claimed I did not "appreciate their service." Can anyone imagine this? A customer pays for a haircut, gets a style completely different from what was requested, and then--just for pointing it out--is told to leave mid-service because the staff felt "unappreciated." I had a terrible experience here 2 years ago but decided to give it another chance today. Big mistake!! I took an older relative there and he went first. The "stylist" took ten minutes and then brought him back and he paid for both our haircuts and added tip. I told her his haircut was uneven and she tried to blow it off as a cowlick. Aside from the fact that she should know how to make a cowlick even, I literally had to point out that his hair was chunked up all over. She took him back to "fix" it and it was still a poor cut. I told her that we wanted a refund for my cut and that I wouldn't be getting my hair cut there. No way was I going to let her near my head. Had I not been there, she would have taken advantage of an oldtimer and given him a half-asses haircut that looked terrible. Unacceptable. Just unacceptable. Haircut chains often don't have the best reputations. But I was in the Kapolei Village Center this weekend in early August trying to kill time before work. And as hot as I've come to find summertime in Kapolei...figured it was time for another cut. My private joke for Kapolei...is that one won't get laid in Kapolei and that you still can't get in the car pool lane. But damnit...you can get a good, cheap men's haircut in Kapolei. Can women? Not too sure about their hair but you never know. Ventured into the nicely air-conditioned Great Clips store in the Kapolei Village Center. Taylor was in the entrance...blocking my entry. He turned out to be my barber for the afternoon. Regardless, he is very customer service oriented. Taylor ( I hope I got his name spelled correctly ) was personable and a good barber. He is a local boy from Hauula, but he explained - due to my question about his twang - that his father was from rural Indiana and that he has a deviated septum. His story about how his dad met his mom was both hilarious and interesting. I've been to places in Downtown, Kakaako, Kaimuki...etc., that charge twice the price but this was comparable to those cuts. If you are out this way...give this place a shot. Lots of parking with large stalls...good as there are a number of recon 4 wheelers up in here at times. read more

No sense writing Yelp review for this particular store. The business is unclaimed so our complaints will fall on deaf ears. Just a place to vent and for others to see our reviews. As far as corporate side seeing this and all other reviews forget it. But anywayz, long story short. Trying to make an appointment for a haircut. American Cancer society recommended this establishment because they know how to handle the special needs of a cancer patient. Called to set up an appointment, young girl who answered recommends that I call back when the manager is in. I tried to ask what day and time the manager gets in, then CLICK! She hung up on me before she could hear my question. Rude. I tried to call the next day, manager is not in today. So I quit and went to a Supercuts instead. read more

Shopping around the area and walked past the store and saw that they had a $9.99 haircut sale, I was already planning to get my son a haircut soon so might as well take advantage of the price. It was too good to be true and as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for." We normally get my sons cut at great clips and it turns out pretty good for the most part but have never gone to this location but what could go wrong for a simple boy cut. First off we made it easy for them by showing them a photo of what we would like it to look like and it did not match. The guy didn't go short enough and the fade doesn't even look right, when my husband came back with my son it barely looked like he even got a cut. His front hairs are all off, like they did a hack job and were rushing because there was a lot of people checking in, to probably get in on the deal too. They couldn't even style my sons hair with gel like they do at our usual great clips. So highly disappointed with the result. read more

So far I am neutral. The reason is the first 2 stylist did a great job. The 3rd time, I asked for a trim and cut like the past two. She said she looked at the past cuts and she totally got it wrong. Guess whatever is in the file is not clear. I like a medium layered cut but like the trim above the ears. Before I could see what she was doing, the top was almost less than an inch and I could not part my hair like I've done for all my life. I come here a lot, but this is probably my first review in a while. Every time I come here for a haircut, the barbers are super friendly and courteous. They remember what I got done last time, and are careful to check if I want the same thing or make any changes. I reserve my spot online at the great clips website by entering the zip code for the location the store is at, and I get a text message about 15 minutes prior to my appointment time. I am seen just on time with my reservation time. I had Mel this time, and she said she has been working there since the store first opened up in 2014. Amazing! Talk about loyalty! She deserves a raise and a special bonus for 8 years of loyalty here! We got to talking story about random things like beaches and camping at Bellows. Next thing I know my hair was done and perfect! My daughter had been bugging me to get her hair cut for months. She was ready to go from super long to a little bob. I wanted a hair cut as well, but working full-time and being a full-time student was making it difficult to find the time. So as soon as I could get a moment away from work, I looked up hair salons that offered walk ins, and were open til late. Great Clips to the rescue! The two ladies working were amazing! So personable, friendly, patient, and kind. My daughter loooooooooves her new haircut and so do I! They did exactly what we asked for and it was such a wonderful experience overall. I'm just so thankful they were available at the moment I could go and made us feel welcome and did such a great job. And even though we were the last ones there for the night, we never felt rushed and they took their time to make sure it was done right. Thank you so much! Came this morning and this lady was just moody as hell. No "hi welcome" NOTHING. My daughter (17 years old) just wanted a simple cut and had a picture sample of what she wanted. The way she was talking to my daughter almost made me want to walk over and ask her what her fucking problem was and if she was having a bad morning. Instead I told myself "just breathe". Aunty, you work in customer service and deal with customers face to face ALL DAMN DAY. You should seriously get that attitude checked before you come across the wrong person or better yet, get a desk job where no one needs to see your piss poor attitude up close and personal. Think you need to learn some serious customer service skills and also need to be more friendly. UPDATE: Just found out her name is Donna. Apparently, after I posted my review and browsed all the other reviews and there is a lot of bad reviews with this worker. How is she still her cutting hair? NEVER coming here EVER AGAIN. 2nd UPDATE: My daughter was in tears. Donna asked "is it ok mom?" I said "shes crying so no it isn't but I'm taking her else where". I took the picture my daughter showed her and asked her "does her hair look anything like this?" Her response was "you need to curl it". No bitch the picture does not have any curls. I told her "you know, you've been rude since I stepped through the door but it's ok" and I walked out. I am calling the Better Business Bureau after this because after seeing all the bad reviews on this one worker she shouldn't be dealing with customers, especially not cutting ANYONES hair. Oh we are upset with what the hair stylist did to our son. We want a skin fad with a scissor trim on top. I've attached photos as evidence. Complaints She didn't even do a fade or taper. She basically did levels with no blending So much hair was taken off the top and done so unevenly. My son left looking like my younger son cut his hair. This place has gone downhill in the last 3 months. Sam no longer works there. When I walked in expecting to be next up as the lady was ringing out her last customer- and I was at the top of the list. She walked over and took her friend who apparently was a walk-in, but didn't have his name on the list. After a 10 minute wait, I was seated in the chair beside what I guessed to be the owner. I asked Donna, my stylist, why they weren't following the sign-in list. Donna was obviously unsure what to say. A lady came in asking to have her eyebrows trimmed - the owner said she wouldn't have to wait because she'd take her as an adjustment. She said okay, I'll be back in 15 minutes. Then told the guy in her chair that she had taken him as an "adjustment" too- with a laugh. The guy laughed and said something about - an adjustment of his whole head of hair. They later talked about how all the stylists were calling in sick. It's obvious management is horrible. I'm giving this review two-stars because I appreciated Donna who was still working there and probably needed the job. read more

KIM who has multiple reports of horrendous service is now cutting kids (my son was nicked and bleeding in 3 different places.) He was crying and embarrassed at how horrendous he looked after she scalped him. Then she doesn't apologize, has no explanation for what would possess her to even approach a child waiting the waiting room and start cutting (scalping them) all within minutes of me stepping outside to take a call; while he waited for his adult older brother that was having his hair done by a professional. She tried blaming the other stylist for her mistake, she tried lying saying my son was scratching his head when clearly from her clippers and verified. Then running to the back and hiding when she couldn't blame someone else. She then calls her boss Toni Cook but fails to mention her cutting a child or that she never asked a parent to even cut his hair. We never had contact with this woman prior to her approaching him in the waiting room. She tells her boss there was an upset Mom but how they both were so horrified he was left unattended. He was not and now can we please discuss your employees conduct and liability. Well Congratulations Mrs. Cook because Kim must have really done something else for you besides racking up formal complaints, bad reviews and a lot of tears. Hopefully she's worth the liability as being a franchise owner no doubt you do realize eventually, I will have her last name to file a formal complaint unless of course you have unlicensed employees which may be) In the meantime, this wonderful employer has opted to use her own last name to report to the licensing board. Not sure how this makes sense however with so much damage from 1 stylist maybe she's starting to rethink this liability. I started getting my haircuts done at Great Clips starting with this location for a few years now and it has been a good experience all around. It's not too big but decent amount of seats with about two or three ladies working on average. So far all of the ladies that have done my hair have did it pretty good. What I like about Great Clips are their prices for sure. Another thing is their great online check in system where you can put your name in and see how long the wait is if there is any at pretty much any location on the island. Another awesome thing about Great Clips is sometimes they will have coupon deals that you can get online for more savings on haircuts. It is a great place if you are on a budget and would like a decent haircut. This location is in Kapolei and conveniently located near Foodland, Daiichi Ramen, etc. There is a decent amount of parking lot in the area but sometimes it can get busy. I find that the best day to come in is during the afternoon timeframe. Any of the ladies at this location will take care of you pretty good and great! read more

I've been a licensed cosmetology Instructor for 35 years. I have worked as a stylist and master colorist in some of the best salons. Rheumatoid Arthritis has made it impossible to do either. I refuse to send my family and friends to that horrible place Super***s and being we were desperate on a late Sunday afternoon I gave in and took my daughter to Great Clips. My daughters hair is super thick, curly underneath and bone straight on the top. Even the most experienced stylist has problems cutting her hair. We arrived at 3:30pm and they closed at 4:00pm(could be 5pm) There were two stylist working. The blonde in the first chair I'm assuming was the manager. She had a client in her chair and did nothing but complain about people coming in late. It made us feel so welcome...NOT!!! I wanted to tell her to STFU! She was so rude. The stylist that took my daughter was quiet and barely said a word. The most she ever asked was "Do you want straight bangs or curtain bangs"? My daughter told her straight, but somehow she ended up with uneven curtain bangs. I evened them out when we got home. I didn't dare to check the rest of her hair, but the long bob seemed to be ok. I would of given my daughters stylist 3.5 stars, but that blonde one up front ruined it for the entire establishment. I would recommend it if you're desperate on a Sunday afternoon. read more

My daughter was crying after her haircut. I hadn't really taken a look at her hair because she had pinned it back. I asked her what happened and she said that her stylist cut her bangs extremely short, despite telling her to trim it eyebrow length. She didn't say anything because of the initial shock of the stylist cutting off a large chunk of her bangs. After taking a closer look, I saw that her bangs were not only very short, but they were also crooked. The way the lady cut her bangs was very unprofessional as a stylist. The hair stylist, if working at a hair salon, should know how to cut bangs, but it was quite obvious that she was inexperienced. Fortunately, hair grows quickly so she can just pin her bangs back until it grows longer. I would like the staff to be especially careful when cutting teenagers' hair in the future. I had searched for a place that allowed walk-ins, and this was our first (and last) time going to this salon. For this company's sake, I suggest they rethink the standard at which they hold their employees. The stylists should at the very least know how to properly cut hair. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. I'm not one to leave Yelp reviews, this is my first, but I am PISSED. I got my hair cut here last night for the first time. Since I was a kid, my hair has been way past my butt. Which I told her. I figured it was time for a change. I asked the lady to cut my hair length, right under my chest. My hair came out completely uneven. It's also now so short already. Way shorter then I asked, meaning if I have someone fix it, I will almost have no length left in my hair. She took me back to the chair before I left, attempting to fix it. At this point, I hadn't even noticed it was uneven. She just said needed to even out the front, and "only noticed now" Saying if she didn't fix it, if I decided to part it different, it'll be uneven. Well, now, it's uneven all around. For years, I've always had my hair layered in a way where no matter where you part it, (in the middle, or the side) it's even. That doesn't make any sense to me. She also didn't frame anything to my face. Just took the scissors straight across, in one straight line while all the hairs were in the back. So you can only imagine what it looks like when I pull it toward. It looks like she cut my hair blind folded. I try to be very understanding in these situations, but this is my hair, that I paid someone to cut for me. I also left her a big tip before I realized what she did. They also told me I couldn't have a refund. That I could come in for a "redo" you can't "redo" all the hair you cut off that you weren't supposed to. I don't want anyone here to touch my hair. I want my money back so I can go somewhere else. It looks like I sat in my room, grabbed a scissors, and cut it myself. I should've jusdone that. The whole left side of my hair is also way shorter then the right. I asked for her to layer it and frame my face. All she did was cut it bluntly, straight across. Even if I put it up, the hair that sticks out looks like a kindergartener cut my hair. Save your money. I've gone to fantastic Sams, and super cuts, for years. I never cut my hair, but when I do, I never go to anywhere super pricey. So it's not like I'm comparing an affordable place to somewhere super high end. I've never been disappointed with a hair cut until now. Don't waste your time, or your hair, and go here. I had a reference picture. It's been 5 years since I went to this place for a haircut due to inconsistent cuts in the past, but I was in a pinch and needed a cut to clean up before going back to work. I walk in, and some dude (I forgot his name) takes me in to do my cut. He prints a slip saying I like doing a fohawk style haircut, which I haven't done in years now, so I told him to ignore what the slip says. I just wanted him to clean up the sides and leave the top longer. Next thing I know it, he's shaped most of my head in a fohawk shape, and not a very good one too. He did my whole haircut using the buzzer rather than scissors, which was also very weird for my longer hair. Went home disappointed, but figured I'd wash my hair and see if a little putty can make this haircut look good. Hell no! After washing my hair, my hair was ridiculously crooked with random high spots and no amount of putty made this cut look good at all. I'm wiping my hands of "great" clips and will never go there again. Seems this place doesn't have stylists that can actually style hair. If you aren't getting something really short or a trim with really long hair, I'd recommend staying clear from this place in Kapolei. read more

Great place for any type of hairstyle. They ask for your email upon check in if its your first time. I was hesitant at first but after giving it I've gotten several coupons both thru email and my mailbox! My barber was ASH, she was very knowledgable, listens, is friendly while not being annoyingly over bearing either. She cut my hair exactly how I wanted after showing her a picture of a certain style. She was fairly quick yet did an excellent job! They don't try to sell you on products for a quick commission either. The store is very clean, their whole staff is welcoming and professional. I've found my regular barber and place to recommend to friends and family. read more
