This mover has 5 stars and I am not quite sure how. Let me preference this entire review by telling you that I drove down from up north to assist my son in moving since he had to be at Law Enforcement training for the entire week he needed to get moved. His entire apartment consisted of one living room set, two beds and two nightstands, brand new front load washer and dryer, two patio chairs, a gas grill and a small freezer. All of these items were wrapped with quilts, shrink wrapped and packaged to be moved. There were approximately 60 or some small boxes, the type you buy at Home Depot, a couple of medium size boxes and a couple large, again, all purchased at Home Depot so easily stacked and were ready to go.
When my son called to discuss an estimate, he spoke with Wallace the owner and was told the rate which was 89.00 for three men that included himself. Minimum of three hours which was a really good rate and with the small amount of furniture etc. that my son had, moving only a few miles three hours was a good fit. Never once did Wallace state he did not have a moving truck and had a 16' enclosed trailer. Wallace was told everything was already wrapped and boxed, all they had to do was move it out and into the new place. Wallace was also told that the furniture was heavy as was the front load washer and dryer to make sure he brought strong men. With the heat here in Fort Worth topping 100 plus degrees an early morning move was requested to avoid the heat of the day, plus going from a second-floor apartment to a second-floor apartment it would be hot. Wallace stated it would have to be mid-morning because he needed to wait for his "help" to arrive.
Upon arrival 10:45 AM, Wallace showed up with his two helpers, one was a young man that had been in the hospital the week before due to heat stroke. He spent probably 15 minutes walking through the apartment trying to decide what to take first and if it was going to take one load or two. I stated at that time what do you mean one load or two, there is not even enough here to fill a truck. Wallace stated at that time, he had a 16' enclosed trailer not a truck. He also had probably 100 moving blankets stacked in that trailer which took room that we were paying for. I asked why he brought them and was told he generally packs while the other two move. I stated that my son had told him we had everything packed, he knew! I was immediately furious and stated well there will NOT be two loads, we are paying by the hour. The two helpers began moving boxes, but Wallace took it upon himself to go outside and sit on the concrete and start smoking in a non-smoking community where he stayed much of the morning. Never once did he ever ask if he could smoke in the community! He would come into the apartment to try and chat and perhaps cool off, I was cordial but really upset because I was not paying them to chat.
The young man that had previously had the heat stroke had to take breaks frequently. Not being rude, but again, on my sons' dime. He should have never been moving us that day!
Over two hours into the move I had already started putting things aside as it was clear they were not managing their time efficiently and that room in the trailer was becoming a problem. Again, all of his packing blankets were in there even though he was told they would not be needed as everything was ready to go. I pushed them to finish what they could loading and get to the new place.
Once at the new place, previously my son had asked if they could move a few items that we had already taken to the new garage up to the new apartment. After unloading at the new place, we were already running into four hours! I said we are done, Wallace said your son wanted us to do this and that and I said, no we are already past time and I paid them. I was angry, but I paid them. The two workers did bust their backs while Wallace sat around and literally did nothing but smoke and run his mouth.
Had I of known that this mover was lacking the ability to manage his time and only had a 16' enclosed trailer, I would have never agreed to have them move my son. I would have asked them to leave immediately but there was a deadline to get moved out and I was left with no choice.
I would not recommend this mover and while I paid him for four hours, we ended up having to rent a small U-Haul truck to finish moving what they could not, completely unacceptable as this entire move should have never taken four hours. read more
