If you are looking to try something new, then I recommend visiting this bakery. The menu at the Great Bagel and Bakery is very versatile and has options for anyone. There are gluten free and vegan options which is nice, but they are only available on the weekends though. The menu is a little pricey, but what I like about this place is that they don't just have bagels and cream cheese, they have breakfast sandwiches, soups, salads, and pastries. I got a bacon, egg, and cheese bagel last time I was there and it was delicious. There are plenty of places to sit inside with friends to hangout or study. Also, there are some seats outside, but they are limited. Overall, I want to visit here again and try something new, so I recommend visiting. read more

Not sure how this place got so many positive reviews... The owners must pay local students to put them in... This place is awful just waited 35 minutes for a buttered bagel and it never came out... they do a horrible job of triaging orders so if someone orders 47 breakfast sandwiches right in front of you you basically wait for those to be done before they can cut a bagel butter it and hand it to you... if you're interested in starting a business start a bagel shop in Lexington... There's no competition read more

What a cool spot in Lexington! I visited for a music festival and needed a spot for some breakfast and coffee. This place didn't disappoint. I had the American bagel and a cup of coffee. The coffee was normal, but the bagel was outstanding. They make their bagels fresh in house and you could really tell by the texture and flavor. It was so delicious, and not overly filling like some bagel sandwhiches are. It hit the spot. The joint is spacious too to eat inside or to go. the place was busy, so the staff was busy, but very kind and quick. Def recommend if you're in the area and are craving a bagel or breakfast sandwhich. They also have some baked goods and desserts I want to try next time too! read more

Great Bagel never disappoints! Every bagel I've ever tried has been yummy! My fave is an Everything, with veggie cream cheese and Lox, real LOX--so good!!! Great breakfast sandwiches too read more

I used to really like this place but the more time passes the more I realize it's just kind of mid? All the food is good but nothing exceptional. The service is fine but never all that friendly, and the tables are usually dirty. And what really gets me for some reason is that their coffee cups leak at the seam and have for YEARS. I can't be the first person to bring this up. How hard is it to change the brand of to-go cup they use? read more

Finding gluten free anything, can be exasperating! Someone recommended The Great Bagel and Bakery for for gluten-free bagels. They have gluten-free Bagel options on the weekend, however the clerk let me know they often sell out fast. I stopped by on a Saturday and picked up an Onion Bagel to go. We had it the next day and it was absolutely delicious. Very good flavor and very good texture as far as gluten-free goes. I hope to go back and try one of their gluten-free breakfast and a coffee. read more

Two out of the last three times, they've screwed up the cream cheese. The most recent time, they put very spicy cream cheese on it instead of plain cream cheese. If I had discovered their error while still in the restaurant, it wouldn't have been an issue. Receipt showed order was taken correctly. Beverage was good. read more

I ordered a gluten free bagel. They didn't have it in stock. Nobody called me and told me they were out. I am severely allergic to gluten and they substituted it without notifying me. So now I'm extremely sick because of lack of communication. read more

I normally eat yogurt or cereal for breakfast. Once in a while, I go for a bagel -- blueberry with cream cheese. Great Bagel has all the variety of bagels and a satisfying breakfast sandwich if I want something of more substance. I was a fan of Great Bagel until I noticed an automatic 5% charge of "employee health & wellness" on my receipt, in addition to the tax and tip. Shouldn't the employers (and not customers) be responsible for its employees' health and wellness? Or shouldn't they be more upfront about this extra charge that gets sneakily tacked on at checkout? As good as their bagels are, this isn't something I can get on board with. read more

My husband talked me into giving Great Bagel another chance today and I took the gamble. Since it's Sunday, I could expect the gluten free (GF) bagel option to be correct. There's only one GF option, it's only available on the weekends until they sell out, and there's an upcharge for GF. Previously, we had to order upon opening to reserve one or two GF bagels. Since the veggie was previously my favorite GF flavor, I ordered two gluten free bagels and three other bagels. They were all bagged together. Might not sounds like a big deal, but avoiding cross-contamination is important for people with food allergies and/or intolerances. Once I discovered the error, I returned to the front counter and asked to speak to a manager about the issue. The cashier returned and looked baffled, as if the manager refused to speak to me and just deferred me to another employee. The employee went to get two new Gluten Free Vegetable (Sat & Sun only) after I explained that the GF bagels had not been bagged separately and I asked the employee to change his gloves. He reached in with his glutened gloves and grabbed two more GF bagels. Once I requested a glove change again, he removed his other gloves and without washing his hands, put on one glove to pick up the GF bagels. When he asked how I wanted the bagels, I simply asked that they be bagged separately and left the establishment. To top it off, the Gluten Free Vegetable bagel (again, Sat & Sun only and available in limited quantities) is super dense and tough (as if the dough had been overmixed--a frequent occurrence in GF baking) and not light and fluffy as it used to be. The quality and employee knowledge had decreased substantially, managerial staff is either dismissive or nonexistent, costs have increased, and employee health fees have been added to food costs. This place has definitely gone downhill since the pandemic. read more

Bagels tasted just fine, but the odd way they have of displaying them - stacked on a rod - results in smooshed bagels that I wouldn't want to serve to guests. Surely they can find another way? read more

I had the NYC sandwich (lox and bagels). The everything bagel was too salty, the sandwich had enough lox but skimpy cream cheese, onion and capers. For $12, I expected better. Zero ambience, lady that helped me wasn't the friendliest. read more

Very friendly and helpful staff. Got a breakfast sandwich and coffee and both were very good.

I'm excited to know this place is here on Boston Rd! The breakfast sandwiches are delicious and they have a nice coffee selection too. If only I had realized they had a full express menu and that I had another option in that location besides Starbucks. Be sure to check them out if you like bagel sandwiches or lattes! Just note they're only open until 2pm. read more

I got the "omelet" sandwich with egg, arugula, bacon, cheddar, scallion, and horsey mayo. It was supposed to be on a toasted brioche bun, but it definitely was not toasted. No seasoning. Horsey Mayo unevenly spread. The sandwich was absolutely average This place has a lot of bagels with multitudes of toppings. They also have a basic lunchtime menu with fare like turkey sandwiches, hot brown sandwiches, salads, and pastries. The menu is expensive, so I would consider trying this place again, but I did not care for this particular meal at all. read more

The perfect post night shift breakfast. The bagels and cream cheese are flavorful and the service was quick. Would come back

I was craving a bagel and when I saw their website that they have Reuben's I knew I had to go. I was very disappointed to discover they have taken the Reubens off the menu. I ordered a New York style on wheat and an Everything bagel with cream cheese. They forgot to toast both bagels. I think they would have tasted much better if my bagels had actually been toasted. I was really disappointed that I went for a Reuben as their website says they have but no longer serve. read more

If you're looking for some awesome bagels, this place has it. My brother went here and brought us some bagels and we were surprised how good it was. Great Bagel & Bakery - a woman standing in a coffee shop - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Lexington, Kentucky

This is a simple bagel place that is close to my neighborhood. Feeling indecisive on our breakfast choices this morning, we opted for bagels (how could you go wrong?). Honestly, cost wise you'll end up paying a similar price to First Watch. We both got a NYC bagel which is compromised of lox, cream cheese, tomato, red onion and capers on a bagel of your choosing. He got a plain coffee and I got a cappuccino. Our total (after tip) was roughly $50. First thing to note is, you don't go here for the coffee. The second thing to note is, those bagels are well filled. It's not a small sliver of lox on these guys they have pieces layered in there with a ton of cream cheese. They are messy. Don't try to be dainty eating them just chow in. I've tried a few bagels from here and NYC has long proven to be my favorite! Will I continue to eat here? Absolutely I'll just choose a different beverage from here on out ^_^ read more

One and done! My wife and I each got a bagel sandwich and a sweet tea which was $30. Way overpriced and it wasn't even good. What's more, the tea was the worst we'd ever had, so much so that we had to switch into a lemonade. The most upsetting part about the experience, however, was that we were charged a 5% fee on top of our bill for "employee health and wellness" which was total BS. There was no disclosure that this was going to be charged. Really dishonest. NEVER going back. Good luck maintaining your employee health and wellness when you have to fire all of your employees for dishonest business practices. read more

Bagels and breakfast sandwiches are extremely delicious; staff are extremely rude. My favorite is the lax + cream cheese on an everything bagel! They have mastered the menu, now they need polishing on customer services and basic civility and manners. Probably not a great place to bring your kids unless you want to hear gratuitous cursing and n-words tossed amongst the folks behind the counter. read more

MILL ROOM SESSIONS at Great Bagel. Intetesting, informative and tasty event. An IntellIgentsia coffee tasting along with a presentation on the bean, from harvest to cup. Included was an array of "Us" vs "Them" bagels and pastries. GB is very particular about their products and the owner talked about using the best ingredients to create an excellent product. Also, we had an opportunity to go into the kitchen to see the mill. This was the first in a series of planned events. Do watch for them and, next time, sign up. Thanks, GB. read more

You doesn't love a great brunch spot?! This joint is more of a order and take your food to go then seating place but they do have seating available if you want to eat your bagels in house. I asked the staff to surprise me with a iced coffee drink with almond milk and it was so great! Looking forward to coming here again read more

Quite impressed! I haven't been able to find a homemade bagel sandwich in quite some time. The bagels taste so fresh and perfectly prepared. Eggs are fried fresh how you like it, choice of meat too. I didn't try the coffee but I ordered an iced tea and it tasted delicious. They told me it was regular black tea, but it was one of the most flavorful I have had. They were very friendly, the restaurant was clean, well stocked and plenty of seating. The atmosphere was cam and relaxing. Very nice for going early in the morning! The brunch menu looks enticing so I will definitely be back to try more of their items. read more

We have been eating here regularly for the last couple of years. We love the bagel breakfast sandwiches, specifically the American omelet on the French Toast bagel. The slightly sweet bagel with the omelet and cheese is a really great combination. We have learned that you gotta get there before noon or the French Toast bagels are likely to sell out though. I was bummed when they removed their fountain Coke machine recently but I'll keep coming back for the bagel sandwiches. read more

I am not a bagel snob. However, this store should stop calling themselves Great OR a bagel shop. My mom stopped and picked some up today. She asked for the Asiago cheese and salt. I am uploading images. The Asiago cheese bagels have NO cheese and no taste. The salt bagel has, no lie, five grains of salt. I shouldn't be able to count them. She paid $5.50 for a small ass tub of shmear, which is outrageous. I would never buy anything here. read more

Love the taste, freshness and variety of bagels from Great Bagel. It's the closest you can get in Lexington to a real NY style bagel. My favorites are the Poppy Seed, Sesame & Everything. You can order online and then pick up your order at the store. Only taking a star off because the staff here just never seems friendly, which I also see in many other reviews for here. read more

This is the best breakfast spot in town. Not only insanely high quality breakfast options but the lunch menu is ridiculous too. It's been proven by thousands of scientific studies that a delicious breakfast improves your concentration, memory, circulation, and overall mood. This place is good. But the in one located in millpond shopping center blows. The staff is unfriendly and rude and acts like they don't wanna make u a damn sandwich or even toast u a bagel. Or do anything. And don't u dare ask a question. Sheesh. It's like they were pissed I didn't have an online order to pick up and that I came inside to order instead. Dead air everywhere. Bad vibes. I prefer the great bagel & bakery located downtown lex! This place is sooo much more upbeat and fun and the staff works swiftly to make sure no one has to wait long all while doing it with a smile on their face. No thanks. I'll stick with Dunkin' Donuts. I went in at 9:30 on Thursday 7/6. There were no customers but one male worker was cooking eggs on the grill and the female worker was cutting bagels. She never greeted me but walked over to me only to look down at a receipt and go back to working. It was obviously a to-go order that was called in. So I waited patiently. She finally came over and stared at me like she was angry at something. She never said a word. It was so extremely awkward so I said in the most cheerful voice "Good Morning!!" I think that just agitated her even more . She never said anything!?! I was expecting "what can I get you" or something but total silence! I asked for an everything bagel toasted with cream cheese. Then she spoke!! "$4.79". Wow, for a bagel? Ok whatever, I paid it. Again, silence as she went and grabbed the ringing phone and headed to the back. I waited 10 minutes and then took my expensive bagel to the car. It was the saltiest bagel I've ever had. Ok that's my venting for the day. Never again. read more

Being a fan of the first Great Bagel, on Euclid, I had been interested in trying the new location. Well, that was a waste. I drove the extra 4 miles to the new location, and ordered one of my favorite items-the NYC bagel. I asked for it to be made open face, and it was. I guess what really stood out in my visit, is the increase in price. To be honest, I haven't kept up with what the current price for an NYC bagel, with medium coffee Is at the original store, but I had to ask the cashier to repeat the amount. Twelve bucks and change would've bought a nice, sit-down breakfast at a full-service restaurant. The bagel was OK, but I would rather have had one I usually get at their other store. It is spacious, which might be nice for people with kids. I had really hoped this location would be a big step up, but I'm going back to the original shop. read more
