Bristol, Va. This bakery was our go to place for breakfast…read moreduring our week in Bristol. At first I was skeptical because of the long line that didn't seem to be moving. As it turns out there are a couple of ladies who really know how to run the show here. The line does move along efficiently and the lead lady communicates with the staff quite efficiently. There is also another lady who is a wizard of the espresso machine, it is a good thing they have her. On our first day there she came in late and this other lady took FOREVER to make our lattes, which turned out weak and milky. On follow up visits the wizard swiftly prepared our caffeinated beverages with great skill. The bean they use here has a good flavor but the espresso lacks boldness. The end product is just not rich enough, but it will do. The quiches are excellent, we always went with bacon Swiss or Loraine. They are a good size with a nice flakey crust, The granola yogurt parfaits are pretty good, the granola has a nice crunch to it. The yogurt was a bit sweet, it may be Chobani, but it went very well with the extra cup of berries you can purchase on the side. These berries by the way were fresh and beautiful. All the cookies we tried were great. They make a perfect affogato here, very addicting. I'm not sure if it's on the menu, but ask and you shall receive. The ice cream here is of a great quality, very creamy. The lemon berry tarts are way too sweet, they missed the boat on this one. I could not eat more than half of one. They did give us 15% off on the tarts because they were a couple days old. The candied pecans look good but the nuts are a bit rancid. All that sugar can't hide that.

I have to say, I really do love their cookies. They look similar to Crumbl's, but they're not…read morenearly as crazy sweet, which I like. My only complaints are the prices and the availability. At $4.50 a cookie (and some flavors are an extra $2), they're pretty expensive for this area. They also say they change flavors every Friday, but when I checked for three weeks, most of the flavors stayed the same. The biggest issue is that they keep "selling out" so early. One time I went around noon, and they were already out of 3 or 4 flavors. Another customer had driven over an hour for a certain cookie and was disappointed it was gone. I went back another day around 3 p.m., and they were sold out of about half the menu again. If you're charging premium prices, you really shouldn't be out of so many flavors that early. Crumbl seems to keep all their flavors available all day, so I wish they could do the same. (I looked last night to order for today and even on their website about half of the cookies are already sold out... What's the deal with that)

Cookies seem underdone and suuuper sweet, and they are ridiculously overpriced. They also have a…read moregrainy texture? Interior of the store feels like a blindly white void. If I were Mike Teavee, I would not be leaving the place as large as I entered it. Y'know what I'm sayin'? You order and pay on the side of the store with an iPad. Very self-service. And while I'm not against self-service, it feels very disconnected from the people there and just sort of...cold? Even convoluted? Perhaps a mite pretentious when combined with the stuffy bright-white atmosphere? Compare to Great Clips, which combines personable service with smart tech solutions. Compare with Great American Cookie which is just so much more straightforward overall. GAC's customer service model is great for customers of all kinds. Here at Crave, I don't want to walk up to someone and have them point me to a tablet in the corner away from the entrance. Simplify! Everyone there was just doing their job, and I hold nothing against the fine people running the establishment. But the people working there deserve a better place with more satisfying food. The people eating from there deserve better for the prices.

After a long exhausting week of road tripping I started to head my way home and decided that after…read moredriving for what felt like hours I needed to find a familiar place to take a break. As I neared the Tennessee/Virginia state line, I saw the familiar red of Sheetz on the roadside sign. I knew, without a doubt, that I would be making a stop here. Pulled off the highway and made my way here. This location isn't far from the highway exit so it can be as quick of a stop as you need it to be. I stopped to refuel my vehicle and of course go inside and refuel myself. This location, like most, is a busy one. I was lucky enough of to be able to pull into a pump right away. However, when I was done fueling I had to leave my vehicle at the pump as most spots were taken in front of the store. Once inside I made quick work to use the facilities and grab a drink. If I didn't have more miles to go, I would have gotten myself a MTO. I opted for the self checkout to help facilitate a swifter exit so I wasn't taking up a the spot at the pump for too long. Once I was done inside, made my way back to my vehicle. When I exited it was a quick reentry onto the highway to continues on my way.

Typical Sheetz offering reasonably priced gas and food. They offer the usual convenience store…read moreitems along with an outrageous made-to-order menu. Even though I've been to a Sheetz numerous times, I'm still surprised each time I visit to discover new and old menu items. I often choose a breakfast sandwich, fries, or hot drink. This visit I opted for the custom salad. Most items on the menu are very customizable. This is great if you have specific food preferences or you just want to get creative. Although this Sheetz was busy during our visit, several of the ordering kiosks were open. We placed our orders at the kiosk, paid at the counter, and used the restroom. The restrooms do need a little attention. Our order was ready in a reasonable amount and accurate. Even with our customizations the items were made correctly and tasted great. Overall, Sheetz is a recommended spot for gas and food while traveling.
