I've been a customer for as long as they have been in business. I've never had a bad experience and appreciate all the things the owners do to make what little wait one has enjoyable. The place is clean, the beverages are a nice touch, the service is efficient and the staff is pleasant and helpful. Never, ever take your car here! I brought my car in because it was intermittently overheating. Paid $325 to have the radiator fan fixed. Two weeks later, the thermostat needed replacing (something they never mentioned before), and I was charged another $175 to replace the thermostat and have some Blue Devil put in to temporarily fix a blown head gasket (another problem that didn't exist before). First my thermostat was fixed, then as soon as that was done, all of s sudden there was a blown head gasket. This did not solve the problem. Now the thermostat is broken and I'm out $175. I'll steer clear of this place and stick with my Honda dealership, where they actually do the repairs I pay for, from now on. Update: the car died the day after we had the thermostat replaced, most likely because of the blown head gasket. The radiator fan was fixed when I took the car in for repair, but then it began overheating again two weeks later. read more

this is one of the best shops I have ever dealt with. I took my truck in to have my tires mount and balanced onto another set of wheels. they had all done and ready to go within an hour even hitting a snag with a lug nut that was cross threaded thanks to another local shop. they are always honest with me when I take my vehicles into them and they always try to do best by the customers. they take care of their customers very well and I will always be a customer. read more

I've been getting my oil changed here for years. It does cost more than the average place, but it's convenient to my house, no appointment, and I can usually get in and out in under an hour. I like that the waiting room does not smell like an ashtray mixed with old oil. The now offer state inspections, but you have to get there at the right time. If I miss the cutoff, I just go to where I get my regular car maintenance done. I've had one instance where the oil cap was lost, but when I went back, they went out and got another one for me (it had been at least a month before I realized it). Otherwise, I personally have not had any problems. They might be a bit heavy on the "sales", but it's easy to say no it you don't want it. I will say that I try to go on a Tues or Thurs when I have a day off to avoid the heavy traffic of Mon, Fri, or Sat if I can. I also try to do whatever basic maintenance I can to save money. But with cars getting more complicated and my life getting busier, sometimes it's easier to just let the pros do their job and hope I'm not caving to a sales pitch at the time. read more

PLEASE READ - DO NOT GO HERE! I see some nice post for G.M. one from 4/13; it is quite obvious their quality has gone down hill.... It's long but worth reading, show how they do business: My wife got here oil changed at Grease Monkey in January of this year and several months later (6) went to Mr. Transmission in Ashland (WONDERFUL PEOPLE!!!!!) for an oil change. Their technician drained the oil and when he went to remove the filter, he couldn't remove it due to Grease Monkey over tightening the filter. The filter was so tight that Mr. Transmission's tech was afraid to wrench on it any harder in fear of breaking ether the filter or the filter retaining clip. They kindly refilled the oil that they had drained and called me immediately. I went to Mr. T being I work right down the St. to inspect in person how tight the filter was - tight isn't even the word. Oil filters are to be installed hand tight and about 1/3rd of a turn; this was installed with a filter tool and was as tight as you could get it. I called G.M. and asked them to replace the filter that they had installed too tight which would also require them to change the oil - honor their work - which the very nice receptionist told us to come in any time the next day they would be expect us.... GREAT! When my wife arrived at G.M. the next day, she called me while I was at work and said that they were going to charge her FULL PRICE for an oil change!!!! I asked my wife to hand the phone to the receptionist who was not the same one from the day before (turns out it was the owners wife). She stated that because it had been 7 months they could not warranty their work that many things could have happened - understandable to a point. She then proceeded to explain how oil filters can tighten over time and lecture me regarding maintenance *NOTE: My degree is in Aerospace Engineering and I am a licensed Aircraft Technician - I have disassembled, rebuilt, repaired and designed a number of aircraft and systems, needless to say I know more about maintenance than your run of the mill Grease Monkey car mechanic* I explained my qualifications and also how Mr. T had also inspected it and that the time had nothing to do with it, it was directly contributed to poor maintenance - she argued the point, of course. Finally after many minutes of us debating politely (really I didn't loose it), she offered a discount... really?? They expected me to pay for something they messed up and a discount is what they offer forcing me to pay - which is why I was there, not to pay but to have them remove the filter w/o breaking it or the clip. I finally got so mad that I asked my wife (who doesn't have a mean bone in her body) to pay them and leave. An hour later my wife shows up at my work, hands me their invoice AND the oil filter retaining clip that they BROKE and just handed her. They said that it was already broken and that the Mr. T had done it because they didn't have a special tool which was B.S. that is why I brought it them to begin because i KNEW it would break!!! At this point I am furious, I drove to Mr. T and showed them the invoice and G.M. blaming them; The owner and director of maintenance just shook their heads. I called G.M. back just to let them know that I was standing at Mr. T's with the the "special filter removal tool" (which it's not) literally IN MY HAND and that they had bad business ethics and blaming others for their mistakes is ridiculous. They didn't care, they didn't try to fix anything -- These people don't care about return business only pushing individuals through like cattle rather than building a lasting relationship with CUSTOMERS (that would be those who return due to good business ethics and being treated fairly). - 5 stars BAD MONKEY! Great customer service, very friendly, very courteous, and fast. I needed to use the rest room while I was there and wondered what I would run into. Well, it was extremely clean, smelled nice, and was even nicely decorated! While I waited they had all the kind of magazines I enjoy like Southern Living, Traditional Home, etc. I even enjoyed watching a bit of the travel channel while I was there my short visit. Grease Monkey is pretty good at being a quick, limited service auto shop. They will change your oil and do minor maintenance on your car, such as tire rotation, belt replacement, fluid flushes, and wiper blade replacement, all in less than an hour. Overall, a decent experience. read more

The employees at this facility are amazing! I cannot express how thankful I am for all of their help! I recently got an inspection there and it got rejected, I needed 2 new tires, new wipers and a new driver side upper control arm. Once we repaired the upper control arm as well as the axle, got new wipers and tires, we returned for an alignment and a re-inspection. I got my sticker and went on my way. About a week later I had a problem with my lower control arm on the same tire that we had recently fixed, the control arm broke and left my vehicle immobile. I had it towed home and called Grease Monkey the next day. I explained what happened to Ronnie, he was amazingly helpful and sympathetic to my plight. There was no way to know if it was something that had happened during the replacement of the parts or sometime after but having just had it inspected he amazingly paid for the car to be towed to the shop so they could put it on the lift and see what happened. My husband met them at the shop and it was decided that it was likely a manufacturer defect. We returned the part for a new one and at no charge Grease Monkey put the new part on and tightened everything up to make sure we should not have any problems in the future. They took the time, energy and money to fix a problem that was not their fault and that they had no knowledge or control over. This place is amazing and I will continue to bring all my vehicles there is the future. I will forever suggest this location to anyone that needs work on their cars. You have a group of genuine, honest and incredible people employed here and I could not be more appreciative of the help and generosity they have shown my family and I. Run - Drive as fast as you can! They might be able to change your oil but that is about it. I had them tune up my car and parts of the old spark plug where found in my intake! Guess they used a hammor to replace them. read more

This business is AWFUL and very DISRESPECTFUL to their customers. I went in by myself (a young woman) for a routine oil change and came to find out a couple of months later that they had twisted on something too tight, so the place I took it to the second time was afraid to take it off for fear of breaking something. The second office asked me to take it back to Grease Monkey, and not only did they deny that they had anything to do with it, they flat out LIED to my face, telling me multiple things were wrong that I found out later were not. Over the phone, I was promised that everything would be fixed free of change, but when I showed up I was charged full price and had no choice but to pay it. These people are SHADY and UNTRUSTWORTHY and I will never ever go back to them, they will take advantage of everyone they can, Shame on them - horrible business practices...STAY AWAY! read more

I recently got my oil changed at the Grease Monkey on Staples Mill Road. I happened to be in the neighborhood and was hoping to get it done quickly. They not only got it done, they exceeded my expectations. At other car maintenance places I've found that I needed to drop off the car and come back hours later. Not here. I barely had time to get a cup of the complimentary coffee and start to work on my laptop before the technician was ready with the report & the review of my car's vital parts. Been using Grease Monkey for oil changes for several years now and thrilled/thankful they now offer other services. I was driving in the Richmond area and a strange noise started coming from the back of the car. Drove straight to Grease Monkey and they found I had driven over an allen wrench (just my luck) and it was stuck in the tire. Given my car is a hybrid and has special tires I was not optimistic they would have a tire in stock. To my relief, they were able to quickly replace the tire at and I was able to complete my travels. In the past I would highly recommend them for oil changes and now I can do the same for car repairs! read more

I use to think this place was very good for a quick oil change, but now since they started doing all types of auto repairs the prices have skyrocketed, the service has gone down and most of the employees have a really poor attitude. The last time I had an oil change here two days later my yellow check engine light came on, I took it to the Ford dealer and they blamed it on whoever changed my oil at the Grease Monkey, they said they overfilled my oil and did not reset my oil system on my Ford. No more Grease Monkeys for me they have turned into a monkey zoo or three ring circus. read more
