I am not sure where the good reviews are coming from. I went in here today, based on the reviews, to get an estimate for some service on my truck. Nothing too major. The gentleman working the front desk told me that it would be $90 to "look at it." I told him that I wouldn't mind paying for the service or fix, but I wouldn't pay $90 bucks for them to look at something that was blatantly obvious. He then told me, "well it might be $50!" So my usual guy was on closed and I went to them for my car inspection since I was in the area. I've to say it was the worst experience ever. They did wrong diagnostic tests and tried to rip me off. The staff was so unprofessional and rude. I had my car reinspected at a different place and got all the work done at one third of the price of what they told me. Never going back again. I take my car here every year for inspection. They are fast and friendly and do not try and sell me anything I do not need. A few weeks ago my car started running rough and I took it to Abe's. They did a diagnostic and had me in and out very quickly and for a very reasonable price. I've been to many auto repair shops over the years and this is the best. I have been here two times and both times have had amazing service and pricing. This most recent time was for an issue my truck was having with starting. My battery was around 6-7 years old so I knew it had to be something with the battery. However, during my inspecting at another location I was told it was the starter. With everyone going wrong with my 6-7 year old truck I figured it was most likely the starter. After going to three different places and having the battery checked, they all told me it was not the battery, that it was 100 percent. So looking at prices of starters I was about to purchase one, when I decided to make one last ditch effort at Abe's. When I arrived I was greeted by the owner and he let me know he could do a check but it would be around $40, but they couldn't check my starter without a new battery because they thought it was the battery. I decided to go ahead with the battery because that was cheaper than a new starter and I trust Abe from previous experiences. They changed the battery for me in less than 45 minutes and let me know the starter was perfect. So long story long, it was a great experience, I trusted my gut and I trusted Abe's to help me get my truck fixed and working right. read more

Update..... the owner contacted me to rectify the situation after my post. We agreed to have them look over the car again and fix the issues. He was very honest about the issues. Although my car isn't completely fixed. He agreed to work with me........The owner was very nice. However they made my car worst. I paid almost $1000 to get my car fixed, and yet it's still not fixed. Went in for a timing belt and water pump. My car is now leaking fluid daily and overheating. Brought my car in to inquire about services. Was quoted an extremely reasonable price. They told me they actually had time to do it on the spot. I have an Infiniti G37x and they replaced my rear brakes and rotors. I waited about 2 hours because they did have to have the brake pads delivered from elsewhere. I was able to walk down the street and grab some food as I waited since they are on a main road. No complaints here. read more

I've been taking my car to Abe's for the last 2 years - they have been nothing but professional and HONEST. I do not know a lot about cars and the owner and his son will take the time to show me the problems on my car along with giving me several options to fix the problem(s). Their quotes/prices are extremely reasonable. Once, after a car accident, they recommended I take it elsewhere for a repair because it would most likely be covered by insurance and would be cheaper for me, even though they would be losing out on business. I would give them a -5 if i could! Do not deal with OR buy a used car from these shysters! I saw 1 on Craigslist and went to buy it. They weren't happy when I insisted I take it to my mechanic for pre-sales inspection. I had to let them hold the sale price in cash to be allowed to take it. When I returned w/ a bad report on a serious oil leak, the 'sales guy' would not refund my money! 'You just bought this car!' he insisted, although I had signed Nothing! After a two-hour standoff and a call to the police he gave back all but $300 of my money, saying I 'had his car for 3 hours, so he was charging me $300!' The police declared it a 'civil matter & my only recourse was to sue in small claims court! Then they made me leave the property - the owner said I was now trespassing! I am out my money and the cost of the inspection report! That is not customer service! They will lie to your face about the condition of their cars, and try to make you buy their garbage! They knew the car was junk and threatened to keep my travel bag w/ my laptop if I didn't complete the sale! NEVER DEAL WITH THESE LOSERS! Now I have to sue them to get my money back - if I win! We had car problems on a trip to Richmond. Luckily we happened upon Abe's. They were fantastic. On a 20-year old Mercedes the needed parts can be hard to find, but they searched from dealerships to junkyards (literally) to get what was needed as soon as possible to try to get us on our way quickly. They explained the issues completely. They suggested several items that I should have checked back home when there was more time. Prices were reasonable. Car has run great since the work. If they are extremely honest with someone from out-of-town as I was, then I have no doubt that local customers would also be treated very well. If I lived in Richmond, my cars would be serviced at Abe's. Great family business! read more

I took my car to get inspected last month. I knew it was going to be rejected since I had a minor incident just awhile prior. So he gave me the report of what failed on the car & went on my way to research prices for parts needed. Just over a week from visiting, I came back to see if he could clarify which side (left or right) of the part was needed. He peeped at the paper he handed me the day of inspection and said he couldn't help. The person who inspected it (someone at his shop) would have to tell me. I asked could that person tell us so we could go buy the exact part needed for the repair... His answer was NO. He showed no concern, nor even faked an attempt to look in his system of the inspection that was done. I'm guessing this was his way of telling me go get the person who's going to fix it to figure it out, mind you, we didn't say we weren't going to get it serviced by him. Even though we paid his business to inspect it to tell us what was wrong. I'm guessing for you to get good service, you have to make it apparent that you're going to get everything done by his shop & not even think about getting a second opinion. read more

My car situation had been nothing but a headache for 2 weeks. Getting a simple state inspection seemed to be the most difficult thing in the world. Everywhere I went had a 3 hour wait, wouldn't take credit under $20, etc. I found Abe's and it looked decent enough. At first he said I would have to leave it but I explained I didn`t have any other transportation, he spoke with his inspector and said they could do it in an hour! After waiting about 40 minutes he told me it had failed because of my breaks and as I was having a mini heart attack he told me he was joking. With a huge weight off my shoulders I left this little place feeling very satisfied. He's very honest and they try their best to be as considerate of the customer as possible. They are also going to have 5-10% off for VCU students and if you have a class, they will drop you off while your car is being serviced and pick you up! Talk about convenience!! read more
