**UPDATED** The owner of Pope Tire reached out to me…read morepersonally with a sincere apology. He completely rectified the situation and put me at ease. This means the world to me. Because of this I have a new appreciation for Pope Tire!! Exact words from trustworthy mechanics at the auto shop that fixed my tire "I can't believe Pope did that to you! How are they still in business. Guys, your guess is as good as mine because Pope Tire is not a legitimate business!!!! After getting a second, honest opinion I was able to confirm that not only did Pope Tire treat me with utter disrespect, they fraudulently charged me $160 for a new sensor when in fact they NEVER replaced it. My old sensor was put back on and I was charged for a new one. Most likely because it took the 2 1/2 hours to do something the other ship did in 20 minutes. My tire was worse when I left Pope Tire and come to find out they completely RIPPED ME OFF. I was charged for them to take off and replace my tire 3 times only to put the old sensor back on. And the icing on the cake?? They didn't balance my tire afterwards so I no longer had a smooth ride. An honest shop put on a new (for real) sensor and balance my tire at a much cheaper cost and it was done right. Hell, it was actually done. I'm getting a lawyer and you will see me in small claims court if I don't get a refund ASAP!!! I was asked to email Pope Tire after my first review and shocker, no one responded. If you've been wronged, reach out and I'll add you to my claim!!

When I spoke to the mechanic, he refused to repair the issue without charging me another $800.00 for a new rotor, brake hoses, and calipers. I rarely do reviews here but felt it necessary since the service we received was above and beyond…read morewhat we ever expected! We had damages to our car from a hit-and-run (2013 Honda Civic) that were fairly minor; however it required at least two new tires. Our insurance company recommended a place to get the body work done. We would normally take it to the Honda Dealership. After the body work was completed at this place, they recommended we get new tires at Will McCarthy's. I could explain the whole saga with our insurance company but that will be a different review that will not be receiving anywhere near FIVE stars. To say the least, we only needed two new tires but due to the excellent service from the staff and especially the GM, Will, we went with getting four new tires! Will helped us with several issues that should have been caught but weren't and even made phone calls for us, as well as got us in contact with people we never would have been able to otherwise! We are so thankful for everything he did! Our car drives great and we our very happy with this experience!

I was having one of those days, the when it rains it pours kind of day, and Matt @ McCarthy Tire,…read morereally helped turn my day around. I came out from a dentist appointment on Leitersburg Pike, to a VERY flat tire. I think they call it pancake flat . lol . The road side assist guy that came to help me put the donut on, advised that a tire shop likely wouldn't plug it because the "injury spot" (a nail) was so close to the side, but he thought they should be able to do a patch from the inside but likely wouldn't' do a plug. As a woman and knowing nothing about tire repair, I was taking notes, for the common fear that as a woman or a person not knowing or seeming to know anything, I might get taken for a ride. I Yelp'ed nearby tire places, and by circumstance / situation, McCarthy was one of a few that was closest. I called to give them a heads up that I was coming, fearing an appointment may be needed and they said come on over! I drove over and my roller coaster of a bad day continued. The guy at the counter, comes out to assess my situation. He takes a look at the tire, and says he can't patch it because of where the nail went in.. I think great now I have to get at least 2 tires because they will never replace 1 (I'm familiar with these tire scenarios ) . But then he says , to my surprise and some skepticism, that he will just do one tire (what?!), um.. thank you universe, I don't have to get 2 new tires! We go inside, he checks inventory, I say I want, no I NEED the cheapest one please and a little typing later he declares he can do it all for 91 bucks. Yahoo, thank you , yes I'll take it. But no wait... damn we don't have THAT tire in stock. But we can order it and put it on tomorrow.. ugh no that won't work.. I'm in Hagerstown now and don't want to be driving all over the tri state with a donut or having to drive back into Hagerstown where I otherwise have no need to be, and adding this to my day the next day.. so I ask what's the cheapest that can be done today? Now we're at $150.. then he gets it down to $130 because I think he feels bad for me and my bad day? He takes my car into the shop and moments later comes out saying, you guessed it: you want the good news or the bad news first? And I'm thinking, seriously?! Another one of these moments! Come on!!! NO more bad news.. I say: Good news. He says: I can repair the tire after all. I leap with joy. Like literally leap from the curb I'm sitting on. Note I'm sitting on the curb outside because I want to sit outside because it was nice out; they had a very pleasant looking waiting room, I elected not to use ;) Then I ask, what's the bad news? He says I'm only gonna make $25 . And I think: 1) Holy moly this day is turning around. 2) Did he mess up the good news, bad news line? ;) 3) Where's the next curve ?! Nope, no more curve balls. He patches my tire, charges me a grand total of 25 bucks! And I promise him a review that will more than pay for the money he "lost" on me today! I'd be happy to share this story! Thank you, honest tire sales/ fixer guy Matt! You turned my whole day around when you took a second look at my flat tire and didn't elect to just take the easy, profit wheeling direction and you did me a solid. There's no doubt he could have just planted that $150 tire on my car, and sent me off. He took the extra time, to check, to do " the right thing", whatever you want to call it, and for that, he will have my loyalty and anyone who asks me about car stuff in Hagerstown, I'll send that way. Doing well by others matters and Matt @ McCarthy, who I learned recently acquired the business, totally has my vote. Your karma is coming for you buddy! ;) And my mini woe is me, bad day party turned into a: people are so good sometimes, SO good. You never know how much you can affect someone's day. Thanks Matt! ~Kym

We highly recommend their prompt and professional service staff.

Let me start with this - About 1 week ago, I left a great review for Pope on dual highway, due to…read morethem supposedly correcting an error that I had with my thermostat and engine overheating, only to find out, that not only did they not solve the issue, they were negligent and also did not tell the truth. I have put about 4K into this Chevy Cruze since November of 2025. In every instance, I spent my money with Pope. They were convenient, and so I though, did a great job. Now, to my recent chain of events - one of the last things I did was to get a new timing belt installment, along with water Pump, which was 950. I had called around, and this was one of the lower estimates, plus they were conveniently right across the street from where I lived. 2-3 weeks later, I start having issues with the Thermostat, and in this case, it was all the way to the "C" side of the thermometer gauge. At one point, the dash gave an error message stating that AC was off, due to car overheating. I thought it odd that it was all the way to the left(C), and not the right(H), which is normally more common if engine is overheating. The next day, I called and spoke with one of the lady's at the front desk, and explained the issue. She said that I could bring it in, and they would look at it, at no charge. I was very pleased with this, and trusted that they would either fix the issue, or tell me what was causing the issue. I made it completely clear that I was in no way blaming them for the current errors. Ok, so when I get my car back, one of the lady's at the front said they would bring my car out shortly, as the mechanic was still looking at it. As the mechanic came in and gave her the key to give back to me, she looked at the mechanic and said "Any leaks found?" the mechanic non verbally concurred that there were none, with a very swift head nod. I thought it was odd that he did that, but nevertheless, brushed it off. The lady at the counter explained that there were air bubbles, and that they "bled" it 3 times. As she stated 'it just needed the belch". Interesting analogy. Fast forward to this past Sunday, I am driving home from running an errand, and I notice the thermometer gauge is moving..First a little to the middle, then back to the left. I kept an eye on it. As I got closer to my residence, I am noticing it is progressively moving to the right, towards the "H" side. Ultimately, again, the "AC OFF DUE TO HIGH ENGINE TEMP". I am praying I can make it to the house. Before I know it, the thermometer gauge is all the way to the right. Now, a message stating "ENGINE IDLE DUE TO OVRHEATING ENGINE, TURN OFF ENGINE". I can hear the fan very loudly as I get onto my residence street, and I eventually am able to park the vehicle. As I get out of the car, extremely livid, Even when I turned car off and locked door, the fan was STILL loudly going. Next day, I decide I need to get my car to a different mechanic. I chose one that was not too far from pope, and probably a quarter of a mile away. I explain the issues, and drop the car off. I left it over night, as the mechanic called and said there were A LOT of things going on with the car, and they were trying to decipher the codes they were getting. Definitely not what I wanted to hear. Anyway, the next day, the mechanic INSISTED I go in to discuss everything. Turns out, there is NO COOLANT in the reservoir, I have an oil leak, need several hoses replaced, along with new reservoir tank for the coolant, have possible cylinder damage, and a bunch of other things. I told the mechanic about Pope agreeing to look at my vehicle when I had the initial issues arrive after getting the timing belt and water pump, and the mechanic then said that "If they bled the system like they stated, that would have involved checking coolant levels, and also checking for leaks. Leaks? I said "they told me there were NO LEAKS" when they bled it. The mechanic shook his head and stated that they must have not bled it then, as that would be one of the primary things they would check for. I then stated, well "I just got a new timing belt and water pump a few weeks back". The mechanic said "that does not appear to be a new water pump, unless it was already a used one, and they installed it in your vehicle". I was literally so angry that I contemplated going right over to Pope, but luckily, my better judgement kicked in, as I new that I could possible go off the rails at their location, and then cause even more issues, than what I was currently facing. All in all, there was about 6K worth of things that needed fixed. I apparently needed a new cooling system. Now, I am not naïve, as I NOW KNOW that Chevy Cruze's aren't the best when it comes to durability, but I could not understand how I was told there were no coolant leaks (at Pope), that they bled the system(Pope), and that they had installed a new water pump with my timing belt (Pope). I literally have gotten a catalytic converter, timing belt and water pump, Oxygen Sen
