Hands-down my favourite shoe store (probably favourite store overall) in town. While some of the other reviewers talk about how pricey GP is, I would have to disagree a bit because I think there's a pretty wide range. What I like the most is that whoever is in charge of purchasing is constantly looking for up-and-coming designers and keeping every category of shoe up-to-date with the very best of what's out there. Whether you're looking for casual flip flops to the sexiest of stilettos and everything in between, chances are you'll find that perfect pair here. I have crazy feet. They're size 6.5 and super wide (D/E) with a high instep. For the majority of shoes out there, I would need the width from a size 8 to be comfortable. All this combined makes finding a cute sandal or shoe pretty difficult (unless I want to wear Keen, Uggs, or flip flops permanently). Gravity Pope rocks because they truly have an amazing selection. I spent a whole afternoon at WEM trying on over 40 pairs of shoes and couldn't find anything that fit well (talk about frustrating). I tried pretty much around the same amount on at Gravity Pope and ended up finding a cute pair of Clarks. The sales associate was patient and helpful (but not overly so) and the best part was there was no pressure to buy. He even double checked to make sure the sandals were truly comfortable (after I had explained my messed up feet to him). I was able to wander the store and try on as many shoes off the shelf without anyone following me or questioning me. The prices for an average pair of shoes are fair. We should feel lucky that we are able to have access to such an awesome selection. I'm willing to pay a little extra anyday to get to try on something rather then risking it by buying online. read more

If breathing counts as functioning, Gravity Pope maybe gets 1/5 stars. Worst customer service ever. For me, at a "higher end" boutique, higher prices are somewhat justifiable if the customer service is decent, and the selection is vast. The selection of shoes at GP is quite good, but the customer service is arguably the worst of any shoe store i have been in. I was in mid-week, the store had no other customers accept myself at the time, there were 4 people working. I had a 2 display shoes i had picked out in my hand, and waited at the front till to ask for a size because the other two on the the floor neglected to assist me. I waited at the till for a minute or two as I imagined that if a customer had shoes literally, in-hand, he may get some service, but apparently their personal conversation was more important. read more

The store has great products, but completely over priced. If you find something you like, you can definitely find it cheaper online somewhere else. Even with their sales, it is still more than regular price somewhere else. Another problem I encountered was...I fell in love with a pair of boots and they only had it in one location. Any other store would be happy to ship the pair of boots over for your to try to see if they fit properly. Even if you had to pay up front first, they would return your money if they didn't fit properly. BUT nope.... GP likes to charge your credit card, then send the boots over, and if they don't fit, "too bad" you only get a STORE CREDIT. YES, people, ONLY A STORE CREDIT! So they can be $500-700 shoes, but because you bought them, and that's their store policy, they will NOT return your money. I think its completely crazy! Of course I would keep them if they fit, but if they didn't and I'm still sitting at your store, you are not giving my money back?? I think they need to re-evaluate their "store policy" as I find that they do this to rip customers off. Definitely an unsatisfied customer! I would rather shop in the States, at least they have better customer service! read more

I can understand the hype over Gravity Pope Shoes. They have a huge variety of shoes- expensive and even more expensive. But somehow, I still feel underwhelmed. Don't get me wrong- I love the selection they have and the way it's all presented in the store, but the service I've received in the store numerous times has been awful. You practically have to go hunting for a salesperson willing to help you. It comes to a point that you feel you are burdening them when in reality, it is part of their job description. It took forever for the salesperson to bring me a pair of the shoes I wanted to try on. Not only that, he told me they fit me perfectly well. I am normally a size 8. He told me a size 5 would suffice. Needless to say, I chose the correct size and brought it to the cash counter. I asked the cashier if I should spray/coat/paint the shoes with a protective coating to care for them. He look baffled, as if nobody had ever asked him for advice on shoes. He shook his head, gave me a hint of attitude as if I asked the most ridiculous question on earth, and told me they were "sandals" and therefore did not require special care. I did not end up purchasing them and left them on the counter. I ended up purchasing the shoes elsewhere, for a fraction of the price, with far superior customer service. I was even given advice on how to care for the "sandals" and I even bought a protectant from the same store. Go figure! read more

I've been all over the world and Gravity Pope remains the best overall shoe store. Great lines from middle to high price. However, you pay a bit of an extra premium on some of the lines-- if you're well travelled you know which lines are overpriced at Gravity Pope. I've generally not had a problem with the in-store service, but there are so many more options out there now for stylish shoes. The Bay and online retailers (e.g. Camper, Fluevog) have much better return policies, so there's a peace of mind in your purchase, especially if you enjoy purchasing online. Many of the brands/styles they stock that were novel in the 1990s or early 2000s are now available at the mall. Their online system is not very well designed, either, as there is sometimes a lag in stock updates, and you can be charged for something that is no longer in stock. I would definitely be more eager to purchase if they had less restrictive return policies. read more

can we give a store no stars? I do give them that they have a decent selection of shoes that no one else in the city will carry, but I love cydwoqs and if I order the cydwoqs directly from the cydwoq website they are about $100 cheaper per pair. I recently went in and was overcharged $40, I bought several items and did not notice, when I went home and called gravity pope the next day, they would not give me a refund. The shoes were regular $350 and on sale for $280, the sale at the time was buy one sale item and get the other pair for free. I could not find another pair for free, so the sales girl asked the manager if I can have them 1/2 price, of the sale price, and she agreed. When I got home it was 1/2 price off the original, that's almost a $40 difference. When I called to ask for a refund, the manager stated it was her decision for the 1/2 price to be off the original not the sale and her decision was final. I thought that was bad customer service and was deceiving as I buy several pairs of shoes there a year and give them at least $2000 a year in sales. I will never go back or recommend them. read more

I can always find a pair of original shows here. They carry brands you can't find anywhere else in Canada! Service is alright there. Then again, I think the whole service industry has gone downhill ever since the economic boom. Anyways, Gravity Pope is great if you don't want to see anyone else in town with the same pair as you.
