If you're looking for something different that's not found in the large chain sports stores, this…read moreshop is a nice change of pace (LOL). This review is particularly for the run shop side of the business; the ski shop would need a separate review :) They have a nice selection of particular runner brands, like the Altras, which are starting to make a name for themselves as the only "zero-drop" athletic footwear (I believe). The space is small but well used, having shoes line the sides of 2 walls, with some running gear on another wall, and the treadmill in the corner to perform the video gait analysis. This program helps the staff figure out the best footwear for you, taking into consideration the analysis results, your current running/hiking lifestyle and your desires in looking for that best-matched shoe They helped me pick out my first pair of Altras to improve my running technique with my flat-footed dew-beaters The shoes look stunning and feel pretty good with a wider midsole space for my flat arches to fall on (versus falling out of my shoe on the inside of my foot). Looking forward to a powerful trail running season! ‍

My feet don't have a lot of tread left on them, so good brands are more than just a treat to me. The frosting on the cake (or the pedicure), though, is the wonderfully helpful staff, who happily brought out pair after pair for me to try, and really listened to what I needed and made thoughtful suggestions. Too often shoe stores now consist of mostly DIY, which I find limits both my knowledge and patience in choosing the best shoe for me. The store I located in the St. Albert Centre and is clean with nice displays. To the people who gave Shoe Comfort a bad or mediocre rating, I suggest they take themselves across…read morethe street where there are a number of places that sell shoes to party or run in. This is a store that sells stylish shoes for people who have developed a variety of back, leg and foot problems, i.e. us old geezers. My wife and I fall into that category plus we both have problems getting shoes that fit comfortably , especially when walking. I'm particularly hard to fit because of a leg brace that requires one shoe to be larger than another. Shoe Comfort had styles we liked and, more importantly, had the brand of shoe that had seen me through ten years of overseas and domestic trips, delivering Meals on Wheels and daily use. We found the size that fit the braced foot, so the owner worked for half an hour to put together the proper combination of inserts to make the other shoe fit. When we got home, my wife found that one pair she bought was slightly tight after walking around the house for half an hour. She returned with that pair, explained the problem and the staff went through the same routine for her to make one size fit comfortably. There was no charge for the inserts and the staff were pleasant while providing after-sales service (rare in retail). I should mention that our visit to Shoe Comfort took place during the pandemic. The store provided hand sanitizer at the door and a cheerful reminder to use it before poking around. Capacity was limited to four people and the four chairs were neatly socially distanced. As soon as a customer left, the chairs were sanitized and, as soon as we left, the owner cleaned he outside door handles. I have never seen such impressive measures, especially in a smaller store. We can't be the only people in Edmonton who have problems fitting shoes. To all the others out there like us, we found the place to go.

The shoes we're really that fashionable or that attractive, except for maybe a few of the flats. But Mephisto's focus is not on fashion; it's on comfort. Most of their shoes are for walking, hiking, or good for work. The prices were outrageous though. A pair of flats were $200-$300 dollars, and most of the other shoes were in this range. I noticed some of the shoes were made in Portugal, and the leather was super soft. They indeed felt like they'd be very comfortable. They had men's and women's shoes, and they also sold a few shirts and coats, but only for men. These were really expensive too. A button-up long sleeved shirt was $150, and one a corduroy coat was $400! I don't think I'll ever be back here, but I think if you have money and are looking for a comfortable shoe, you might want to check it out.
