Of all the places you can go in town, this isn't it. I've personally heard Butch, one of the…read moreowners, yell out (due to his partial deafness I presume) incredibly bigoted and racist stuff apropos of nothing in the store, just cannot keep his opinions to himself. He is unpleasant, incompetent, and I've hated every interaction I've had with him. Just read some of the other reviews. Additionally wow, he sure talks pretty rough to the employees in front of customers; it's genuinely surprising and uncomfortable. The employees generally seem pretty nice and helpful, so dunno what that's about. Their COVID behavior and compliance was atrocious, and was part of the reason I stopped shopping here. Gail (?) and the other one (maybe related?) were just constantly pulling their masks down right in my face to shout out stuff to their employees across the store. When you think degens from upcountry, the boot fits. Their prices aren't great compared to other shops across town and seem to really make their buck off of tech people who buy the super expensive raw refrigerated nonsense for their dogs. They have some cute local suppliers, which is such a shame. In short: we have other suppliers in town. These are not great people. The other stores aren't that far away.

I've been here three times, once to get some paddock boots and half chaps, once for an exchange on…read moresize, and once for a helmet. I've never met such an inhospitable group of sales people. They are deeply uninterested in how you feel in the equipment, hence why I had to exchange. I once called, asking for advice on breaking in boots and after answering a few questions, I heard the sales girl try to cover the phone and say "oh my god," exasperated and annoyed. Maybe that wasn't for me but I'm doubtful. They also tried it put me in a medium size half chap even though my calf circumference is larger than the half chap's... when I told them it was too tight they said "no it'll break in".... Half chaps... shouldn't need breaking in. Frankly, neither should paddock boots but whatever. Against my better judgment, I went in to try on a Samshield helmet. I wasn't sure on the fit since all helmets fit different, and so I decided to go and see if I like it. I asked if I can be fitted for a Miss Samsheild and then the shopkeeper said, "Are you here to buy one or get fitted?" Appalled by the question, I said that I think it needs to fit to buy it. She said they don't allow fittings if you don't buy it... An important safety standard for a helmet is that it fits right. Brands fit differently. I was so uncomfortable by her line of questioning that I just left. I'll just buy online, at least then you benefit from their refund policy. Because this place does not offer any refunds, only exchanges, within two weeks. Cool. I've never had so many consistently uncomfortable experiences at a saddlery, let alone in a small business setting. Just go to Olsen Nolte, it doesn't have the high end stuff but this place doesn't care about the client at all.. they are barely interested in a sale, let alone treating you with some semblance of respect.

If five stars is as good as it gets, a Jim Milbrath saddle deserves 10 stars!…read moreI just got my new saddle and have only had three short rides in it, but it seems great for the horse and me. Since it's new it does need a little time to break in from the inherent stiffness of new leather. This experience was great! I met with Jim a couple of times to discuss design and style of the saddle; then he fitted the horses and when the tree came, made a necessary adjustment and made the saddle. IT'S GORGEOUS!! I have never seen such incredible dimension and richness in leather carving before. In 2007 he won the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame Art of the Saddle Maker Competition in Colorado Springs, CO, in the novice division - a fairly spectacular way to launch a career! I chose Jim because of the exceptional beauty of his art and his location in the Bay Area for getting the horse fitted properly. I'd researched a number of other makers, but their lead time was longer, they were too far for an actual fit on the horse (I'd have to send back facsimiles which I didn't trust as much as actual fitting with professional input), and they were more expensive. This is the best thing I've ever done for my horse and myself. I feel like ROYALTY riding in this bit of beauty! Don't think a second longer - get a saddle from Jim before he's too booked up to deliver in your lifetime - he's a definite standout!
