This is my favorite health food shop ever - it has tons of great stuff…read more I've just been to the store today so everything that's good about it is fresh in my mind. This shop seems to have lots of things that the other health food stores locally don't stock. There is always a great selection of baking ingredients, tins, sauces, snacks, treats, fridge items, frozen items, oils, medicines, herbs, cleaning products, spices etc etc. They also have fresh fruit and veg and a cheese counter. Oh, and the stock lots of items for making your own wine. I am a veggie who has lots of allergies including dairy, root veg and a few other random things. Whilst I am well used to this, I can still get frustrated at my restricted diet. So shops like this one are my idea of heaven. Today my basket contained pea soup (root veg free), dairy free chocolate spread, veggie sausages, dairy free 'cheese', nut luncheon (sounds horrible but looks good), gram flour and rock salt. I can't think of any other shop where I could have purchased such a diverse selection in one place. I did ponder for some time over the 4 different flavours of dairy free ice cream and dairy free cornettos in the freezer but decided chocolate spread was treat enough for one week! The people in the store are friendly and helpful and always seem pleased to see how thrilled I am finding new products. Another thing that is good about this store, they always seem to be trying new products instead of going in to the same old same old every time. They also stock some local items which I always think is a good thing. The only thing that stops this store getting a 5 star rating from me is the fruit and veg. Whilst everything else is fabulous, the fruit and veg always looks a bit past it's best. This was the same today when I noticed some poorly looking lemons shriveled up in a basket. I am sure the store are just trying not to waste food as they are clearly very ethical. However, this does put me off buying those items a little. Having said that, it doesn't put me off the store at all. Well worth a visit. NOTE - This store stocks Sheese (dairy free cheese). Until recently I had no alternative to cheese in my diet as the products on the market tasted like cardboard! However, I have recently discovered Sheese from Bute Island Foods and it is awesome. This store often has a small selection from the range and is worth visiting for that alone.

Service was detailed, swift intelligent and very polite. The ambience quiet and private with lots of dark wood panelling, rather like a club. The food came hot, fresh and delicious. The wine list was fairly standard. We had red beef curry with lots of fresh ingredients and the Malaysian rice dish with chicken and prawns beautifully spiced, boiled rice and a large glass of red wine, plus great homemade prawn crackers. - £22 all in!

A chocolate lovers heaven - every kind of chocolate and sweet you could ever imagine…read more This shop in the centre of keswick is a bit of a tourist trap (understandably) but it also has a regular following as it sells such lovely chocolate items. The mint thins are a favourite and are a good after dinner treat. It's quite expensive in here, but it's worth it for high quality chocolate. They have a counter service where you can build your own box of chocolates, or they have lots of pre-boxed stuff - both there brand and others. They also sell novelty items such as chocolate mice. Worth a look in if you are in Keswick - I challenge you to resist coming out with something!

My dad told me pay a visit to this butchers after buying a piece of machinery from them for our bakery and then finding out how much AWARD WINNING produce they have! I got told to get the award winning bacon and Cumberland Sausages. So, in we walk and I have never seen so many award winning signs in my life! What to choose??? Let's start with the Cumberland sausages - two kinds, both please! And then to the choice of bacon, well, how do people choose?? We opted for the black treacle cured back bacon (award winning obviously) and Adam Y chose the oak smoked back bacon. All the bacon was boasting not to leave that nasty white stuff in your pan. While we were here we picked up some award winning pies too. Pork Pie, Peppered Steak Pie and Chicken Pie. All of which looked perfect (coming from a baker, that's a HUGE compliment) and i am told they tasted just as good! The service we received whilst in the shop was second to none. Enough said. If you are ever passing Windermere town (and you eat meat) you must pay Huddlestons a visit! x

'The most memorable thing about Windemere was a "Cornish" pasty I bought from Huddlestone's Butchers in Windemere. It was so good I returned to the shop to tell them so, and the man said he had obtained the recipe from an old friend of his in Cornwall, who had recently retired, and finally parted with his secret recipe. So if you are in the Lake District, and craving for a "genuine" Cornish pasty, go along to Huddlestone's Butchers in The Avenue, Windemere.' I am so pleased that they have been recognised as the 'Premier' in 2016. Congratulations to all at Huddlestones. And yes, I can still remember how good it was. And I still live in Cornwall. It turned out to be not just the best meal of our vacation so far, but honestly some of the best Thai food I've had in a long time. The inside of the restaurant was nice and intimate and did not match the front exterior at all. Statues and nice decor all around. Once we were seated, we started with prawn crackers, spring rolls, and fried prawns, then moved on to our mains: pad prik beef, chicken pad Thai, and a vegetable red curry with sides of jasmine rice. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and so satisfying. I only wished they had those tiny Thai chilis in vinegar, but they did have chili oil, which was good. Service was excellent; seemed like the owner (?), chef, servers, and hosts all pitched in and helped each other, which was nice to see. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience and the perfect way to wrap up our trip to Kendal.

The hot chocolate is the most delicious hot chocolate I have ever tasted. And the churros had the right amount of cinnamon. And the chocolate sauce tasted just like the hot chocolate. The staff were friendly and helpful and provided tasters of the drink. The WiFi is locked with a password, this may seem like a downside, but it isn't, it protects the network and stops high traffic so it is good . Pricing is very reasonable, 6 churros, large hot chocolate plate, chocolate caramel slice, tea and a tub of ice cream equates to around £15 pound. Better than other shops around the area. I enjoyed it greatly and I highly recommend. Only drawback is the font is papyrus.

The sample room offered up 20 samples of divine cheese; pure bliss for me. We then went to the Kit Calvert restaurant for lunch. It was crowded and service was a bit slow and disconnected, such as we had no salt and pepper on our table and were ever asked about drink refills. The food, however, was amazing. I went with the full Cheese Experience (3 courses) while my husband had two. We went with two different cheesy starters, both delectable. I had the chicken with smoked cheese. The breast was perfectly cooked in a lake of cheese sauce, with the rosti beneath it (like a thin hashbrown) added a nice crunch. For my dessert course, we shared the ginger cheesecake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Neither of us are cheesecake people but we declared this the best we have ever had. It wasn't as sweet as American cheesecakes, and had a pleasant cragginess with ginger warmth as a complement. The ice cream was also better than what you find most anywhere in America--fresh and creamy. What a glorious meal!
