UPDATE part 2: I took Juno to a second groomer to fix her haircut, and she said she's never seen a cut so uneven and poorly done--and that we shouldn't have even been charged for it. I'm very disappointed in Micah's work and how rushed he was just to get Juno in and out. It only took him one hour when she's usually there for at least four. I will not be booking with Micah again and would not recommend him. We've been taking our dog to Grateful Dog for over a year and have always been happy in the past, but the last couple of appointments have been really inconsistent. This last visit was especially disappointing. I asked for a teddy bear face and got the complete opposite. There were long hairs left everywhere, we had to spend about 30 minutes at home fixing it ourselves, and honestly, I feel like I could have done a better job. It also makes sense now why payment and tips are requested before you even see your dog. The quality just hasn't been the same lately, which is a real letdown after being a loyal customer for so long. Update: I'm also upset because our dog walked in with the perfect length eyelashes, they were so cute and they cut them completely off, leaving like a centimeter. So if you don't want your dog's eyelashes shaved off, make sure you specify before dropping them off. read more

I have had 2 dogs groomed at this wonderful business. The first was a young adult male Maremma with no grooming experience. The second a female Great Pyrenees who also had never been groomed professionally. They were very patient and did a wonderful job on both dogs, but unfortunately used a fragranced product on the second dog. My fault since I never asked them to omit fragrance. Since I am severely allergic to chemical fragrances, I asked them to repeat her bath and blowout at my expense. They insisted on repeating her bath at no cost and removed most of the offending product. This is an amazing groomer. read more

(I went for a nail trim, which was a BIG JOB- took minutes; will be back for a groom) I've been so nervous to trust my Willis with anyone. He has lumps and bumps all over, is hesitant to have anyone touch him... and is already an anxiety ridden dog to begin with. They didn't rush him in. They waited and let him sniff and were mimicking his demeanor- which is quiet and shy... didn't get all bubbly and annoying like some people get around animals and kids. My dog is almost 17 years old and it is hard to find a groomer for him as a lot of groomers, especially the ones that start with "pet." They had me bring him in for a meet and greet and trimmed some of him and cut his nails and then agreed to groom him. No charge. I was so "grateful." I took him today and he came back looking and smelling good. They were patient with his "complaining" and his need to sit or lay down. These guys are wonderful!! If I could give them more than five stars, I would. When I still had my elderly chiweenie, they were SO caring and patient with him. Now that he passed on last December and I have a miniature long-haired dachshund, they're every bit as caring and sweet to her! What I LOVE about this place is that they take 2 hours to get to know the dogs before they are accepted. A temperament test is brilliant in my opinion. It makes me feel like my puppy is going to be in a safe environment. The full and half day rates are beyond reasonable IMO. I'm very happy to pay for my dog to get this time with other dogs and people since it's important for puppies to socialize (mine is 5.5 months). I've been a handful of times and each time my puppy is STOKED to be there...like she slips and slides to get to the back because she can't sprint on the linoleum! Ha! When I pick her up she's so tired and often times tries to get back out of the car to go back inside. The few staff members that I have been in contact with have all been very friendly and let me know how my puppy did that day. Came here for the first time today for a walk in anal gland appointment. I just adopted a cockapoo and he seemed to have some issues back there and I so I started to get worried that it might be something more serious since he is older. Jason was so kind and gentle, explained what might help moving forward all while holding and petting my pet gently. I'm so grateful I found Grateful Dogs! I brought my Greyhound here because I was tired of the vet cutting the into the cuticle, despite my pleas to be careful. Every vet I have tried insists it can't always be helped. Well Grateful Dogs have never hurt my dog and that means everything to me. These people are wonderful! My dog loves going there and they treat us like family. Also, it's so affordable I can get my dogs nails done regularly without feeling financially stressed. The vet was charging $30 for a nail trim, Grateful dogs charges a third of that. Finally, they are open on Saturday and I have never waited more than 5 minutes. Wonderful business and people. I thought I had resolved my issue here after speaking with Jason but that is not the case. Took my dog, who is a wiggly worm, in for grooming on Saturday and walked in to pick him up just in time to see Anna grabbing his face and saying "Stop it, Fred, STOP STOP" before she realized I was looking at her. Proceeded to tell me that maybe he was wiggly because he heard my voice... when I hadn't been talking when I walked in? Hm. Groomers are trained to be calming and if they can't handle a dog, they should call the owner. So, called Jason and discussed it with him. He seemed genuinely concerned. Thank you to him for that. But now I'm concerned and want others to know that the behavior I saw was disturbing. It's been two days and now my dog's face is BLEEDING and swollen. What exactly happened?? No excuses. First, my experience with grateful dogs has been reliable and caring as far as staff and the establishment itself. They are nice enough to update you on their behavior when you pick up your furry one for the day. Now, I have mixed feelings about the pet sitting area as I have taken my dog here the first few times. She loved the dogs and had no problems with socialization (the daycare have the dogs go through a temperament test before they accept dogs, which my dog has been through). I loved how happy and tired out she was every time I picked her up. Recently we have been back and grateful dogs called about an issue with my dog biting another. Dogs do not bite other dogs out of the blue with no reason. I found that odd as I always expose my dog with other dogs. My dog has no history with being aggressive with other dogs. Because of this, my dog is no longer able to return. I am pretty upset at their monitoring and how they handle situations like these. It was difficult for me to understand as they kept telling me the same thing. One person only saw this situation happen. So that's that. Also, don't be alarmed when your furry ones come home with scratches on their body. They do tend to play rough in daycare. read more

I took Jackson in to get groomed last week. He got a much needed bath and a summer cut. I think he looks like a young puppy again!! I know I'm partial but Jackson looks so sweet and regal. I know what his blood lines are. Most of the time, when I look at Jackson, I can see his background thru and thru. Now, more about these groomers...their are several there and I think they are all good. The ones that have groomed Jackson have done a great job every time. They listen to me say what I want done. Then they clarify, make suggestions and confirm what is going to be done. I know I am leaving my baby, so to speak, in good hands. They require all dogs coming in to be up to date on all shots including bordatella (sp) and a current negative fecal. This is important. It helps keep the dog population healthy. They have the same requirements of shots and negative fecal test for the day camp that is at the same site. All in all, I am extremely happy with Greatful Dogs groomers. They do a great job and Jackson likes going to them. Better them than me!!!! read more

We've tried several groomers around the area and have been very disappointed. We have a Shih Tzu who needs to be groomed every 6 weeks or so. In between grooming, his tail can get a little matted. Despite our many requests to NOT shave his tail, the groomers around here will do it any ways. Rather than taking a little extra time to brush it out. It's very frustrating, especially when you pay so much. Grateful Dog listens to their customers. Today, my puppy's tail was pretty matted, more than usual and I told them if they had to shave, I understand but I'd prefer if they could brush it out and keep the length. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the groomer took the time and care to brush out and de-mat my dogs tail. They care and are not lazy. Every penny well spent. We took our girls here for their first grooming in a long time. Jason was very gracious when we brought them in, gave us very competitive quote, and got us scheduled quick. Jim was tasked with the "garage renovation project" of these two Great Pyrenees. We were very impressed and thankful that Jim took he time to socialize with our girls before taking them to the back. I actually called Capital City Grooming first but they were booked for the week and referred me to Karen here instead. Karen did an AMAZING job on my 9lb Yorkie-Poodle! She listened to exactly what I wanted done and I am super happy with the results. After a full assessment from family and friends, we all agree this is Coco's best hair cut yet! I called the place around 10am and they could fit me in at 11. I took my Chow/Lab 1 year old there and warned them that she usually gets snippy with me when I try to brush her but since the weather is heating up, she is in desperate need of a good under coat grooming. 2 hours after dropping her off, I got the call that she was ready to go home. When I arrived, I couldn't believe how beautiful my dog looked! They had washed, dried, snipped, brushed and slightly shaved her to perfection. And the lady working there even told me that my dog didn't even snip at her, which was surprising! All for around $40, it was well worth it! Will definitely be going back there. read more

This place is amazing! I took my two REALLY smelly big dogs in this weekend and they came back looking just amazing! My husky-retreiver is a rescue who'd never been to the groomer before so I was a little nervous about leaving him alone since I didn't know how he would act. They assured me that they work with dogs like him since they do the grooming for the local shelter so I didn't need to worry. That gave me peace of mind as I left my "babies" there for their afternoon appointment. My other dog is a Newfie-Retreiver and is a hairy beast - they trimmed him up and he looks like a new dog! The best part of the whole deal is that it was only $75 for two big dogs! That's how much I was paying per dog at other facilities!
