I'm not white, I think I was also treated poorly because of that. Racism is everywhere. I tried to stop her and explain that I was feeling very uncomfortable, she kept on saying she knows her job. I had to pull the x-ray out of my mouth because I thought I was going to throw up. I asked her how many shots she needs to take, she sort of avoided my question and said there are still so many. I rephrased my question, and said I'm asking about the exact number because I'm feeling very uncomfortable, and I may not want to continue this procedure. Then she said she still needs to take 22 (which is A LOT. I'm still trying to understand what the standard procedure is). Then I told her that I don't want to continue. I thanked her and said she was doing great, and that Im leaving because I was feeling nauseous. Her reaction was very rude ("You cant just leave! You need to see the dentist!"). The dentist came and said he isn't going to change the standard procedure for me. "What are you going to do if you got pain again?" he asked, and I felt like he was trying to convince me to get the treatment, making it sound like it was my only option. Go to a dentist who actually cares about your comfort and health, and who isn't treating people poorly because of their skin color or accent.

They saw me right away and I had my X-rays done by the only nice person I met in the building. I then saw the dental hygienist. It seemed like the entire point of her "exam" was to shame and scare me into spending an absurd amount of money on their dental plan. When I told her it had been a while since my last cleaning, she said "I can tell." She showed me a photo of my gums and said "Do these look like healthy gums to you?" The dentist dismissed my pain and blamed it on a medication I've been taking for months. After you have your visit, they have you check out with a sales person disguised as an associate who tries to pressure you into signing up for their high interest credit plan. They said my treatment plan would cost approximately $7,000 with insurance. When I stated I couldn't afford that, she said she would check with the dentist to see what was "absolutely necessary." It can back to around $4000. I left. I went to Baystate Dental the next day and paid $80 for a procedure that alleviated my pain. I'll have another procedure for the same cost in six months and my issue should be resolved - a far cry from $7000. I'm a medical professional myself and I would never make a patient feel this way. I know that in these times many people have to choose between daily living costs and medical care. Maybe I would have fallen for their scheme if they treated me with any type of respect and understanding, as I was in so much pain. This practice is clearly exploiting vulnerable people with dental emergencies and using high pressure sales tactics to get people to spend money they don't have. I'd recommend going anywhere else.

They did an x-ray of my teeth which took about 30 minutes and tried to convince me to book a specialty cleaning that was going to cost $3,000. I decided to get a second opinion from a different office and didn't wait any time to be seen, got the x-rays done in less than 5 minutes, and was given a full cleaning. Do not go to this dentist!

I am thrilled to be a new patient at Baystate Dental in Belchertown. For some time, I didn't have…read moredental coverage, and then I was out of the country for a year. Since Belchertown is local for me and they were able to fit me in the next day, I gave them a try. Their location, not far from the town center, is easy to find. The waiting area is small but charming, and they have a couple of computers there, where I noticed kids playing some games while they waited. My wait was only a few minutes, and Nadia took care of my x-rays and cleaning in a flash. As she went through what she saw, she noticed that I only had one wisdom tooth remaining, and I mentioned that I intended to have that one removed too, when I have a chance. She told me that extraction was covered by my insurance and that they could take care of it at this same office, if I wanted. When Doctor Lin came in to see me, he confirmed that I could get that last wisdom tooth out, and he was thorough and very pleasant. As it turned out, they were able to fit me in first thing the next day (which was this morning as I write this review). Again, things today went very smoothly, and Dr. Lin performed the extraction. I was treated with kindness and respect in every way, and everyone made me feel as relaxed and as comfortable as possible (which is saying something since it's not fun to have a tooth pulled). Again, it was quick and efficient without feeling rushed. Nadia saw me again as I was leaving, and she remembered me and greeted me warmly. Is it wrong to say that I'm sorry that I won't need any further service until a routine cleaning in six months? This is the kind of office that is a pleasure to visit. Just the same? I'm glad that I didn't need any more work done. But I'd be in good hands if it were needed.
