So good! The best babaganoush, the favor is so complex, the consistency and taste just perfect. The lamb shank is one of a kind, the aroma and the sauce are unbeatable. Stopped in here for lunch! It's a smaller restaurant space but ample seating if you wanted to go with a small group. I was surprised to see a couple other parties dining in as well on a cold day. We ended up sharing a bunch of things. We ordered the Eggplant Shakshuka, Hummus, Vegetarian Cigars, and Moroccan Cigars to share. I thought it was interesting that the Moroccan Cigars, while savory, came with powdered sugar and cinnamon on top. I enjoyed the Vegetarian Cigars more; the paprika on top and the tahini-based sauce was very good. I ordered a Lentil Soup as well. It wasn't like other lentil soups I've had in the past. It definitely had more spices in it and was less thick. The Turkish coffee was also really good. I had wished the pita came more heated or fluffier. I also was a bit turned off by the well-loved/used woven basket it came in - I'm kind of a germaphobe and all I could think of is how the basket can be reasonably washed. Karim (the restaurant manager) personally delivered all of the food, presented beautifully on ceramic dishes and in traditional tajine. We told Karim how many people we were having and he put together the perfect menu. We loved Grape Leaves!! It is such a cozy spot in downtown Oak Park that I highly recommend. It has a very warm, intimate, family fun feeling, and the food is quite affordable and delicious. I've gotten takeout from them a few times as well, and their pita with babaghanoush never disappoints, with falafel. We loved the lamb chops as well, they were the perfect texture and quite smoky, and were complimented very well with the side of the flavored rice, smoked veggies and yogurt sauce. The waitress is also very kind and the service was great! Overall cannot recommend this place more, so sad that we didn't get to try a Tagine, but we will be back! read more

This place is amazing! Really small not too many tables, but the food is worth it. We got the Moroccan cigar sampler- very yummy, hot pita, smoky baba ghanoush, and creamy hummus. Don't miss the tea! We got the moroccan mint tea and it was so good we got two pots. They are BYOB but we learned it's because of religious reasons that they don't sell it so you can't argue with that! I got the lamb tagine and it was falling off the bone. My boyfriend got the beef shush kabobs which were perfectly spiced and had a good char. We got the creme brûlée for dessert which was spiced and topped with dates. Great texture and cool take on the dessert We had a chance to meet the owner on a different visit and he was so warm and kind to our family we had a great conversation about morocco and his life. As anyone who follows me knows, I have an affinity for Middle Eastern food. Especially Shawarma. I've had Shawarma from over a dozen different places throughout Chicago. I like this place and their Shawarma is uniquely good, but it's pricier than most. Very small restaurant, but it would be nice for a couple to eat in. I have, however, only had food to go. Again, if you know, shwarma, you know that the price for fair shwarma is the same for good Shawarma, so I only have Shawarma at the good places. The shawarma here is a bit more unique in flavor, but the price will keep me from returning. I paid $73 for three Shawarma dinners to go after a modest tip, but hey, if that price isn't a bit steep for you, you SHOULD go. Their food really is good and unique. read more

Grape leaves has been in Oak Park for several years. Every time I eat their food I am reminded why they are successful. the food is delicious! Today I ordered the chicken curry dinner. Whole pieces of chicken in a wonderful curry sauce with potatoes. Simply outstanding. So rich in flavor. The rice that comes with the dinner is also great. Stopped in at 1pm on a Saturday to ask about possible catering for a dinner party for 8 that night. Karim was so nice, and make it easy to put together a diverse, affordable menu. But then he went above and beyond - he delivered the food to our house in beautiful dishes (not aluminum pans), which he came back the next day to pick up. The food was delicious and plentiful - I know the restaurant itself is great, but if you need a catered dinner party I cannot recommend Grape Leaves strongly enough! read more
