Grant Ernhart did my ten series of Rolfing. I think that Grant is extremely skilled as a Rolfer and he listened to all my individual needs and really worked with them. He assessed my needs skillfully and each session left me feeling totally relaxed and renewed. Despite a good grip and pain at times (to be expected with Rolfing), the overall experience was one of deep enjoyment and pleasure. Rolfing is not a cheap endeavor but it's a great gift to give oneself. I have changed some fundamental ways that my body has operated through this ten series. I feel that the Rolfing has relieved some of my low back pain and helped me get a better posture and a more functional and relaxed way of walking. I pursued Rolfing to gain better posture and alleviate some chronic pain issues I had with my shoulder from past sport related issues. When I initially came to Grant I had no clue as to what to expect or results to see. The first session he was incredibly informative and provided a wealth of knowledge about the technique of Rolfing and the benefits I would take away, which made me feel comfortable that this would be a worth while investment and that I would obtain some of the adjustments and advancements with my physical performance I sought out. Each session he provided insights for me to utilize to work on posture and mind/body connection. I took a session every other week, which worked really well for me because in the first week after the session I'd notice initial results in my posture, flexibility, or length. In the second week I'd really notice new movement as I was cutting time in my swim sets, and forming technique in my stroke that I'd never done before, and I had been a competitive swimmer for 8 years! Grant was keen each session to be fully informed and aware of the changes or difficulties I was experiencing during the 10 sessions, which I found very helpful to monitor all the physical changes, like in my posture, that I may have overlooked otherwise. I highly recommend the 10 sessions with Grant if you are interested in really gaining better posture, adjustments in lengthening/flexibility, and alleviating chronic pain. I've seen Grant for Rolfing pretty frequently over the course of about the past 9 months, first for a few sessions on some specific leg/knee pain from running, then for a full Rolfing 10 session series, and finally for a couple of tune ups. This frequency is testament to my belief that Grant is a really skilled, dedicated practitioner and that Rolfing as a form of bodywork really works - it's deep, intelligent, and encompasses the whole body. Grant has a super precise and keen eye for the body and its lines. He's a great problem solver and good humoredly took all the random info I could spurt at him about my body and lifestyle and worked with me to put it into a coherent and creative plan of action. Some of the benefits I've felt from working with Grant include reduced shoulder and neck discomfort (a recurrent problem for me thanks to desk work and toddler juggling), broader and smoother breathing patterns, increased range of motion specifically in my yoga practice (which was something I wanted to work on), and, most importantly, a general improvement in my grounding and wellbeing. I tend towards anxiety and spinning out in my head, and I have to work really hard to stay relaxed and grounded. The great thing about committing to a full 10 series of Rolfing is that it gives you enough time to come back consistently to the patterns and habits you hold in the body and work them out over a long enough time to really affect change. And Grant was great at steering me back on course with that work. Finally, Grant fun to spend time with, a great listener, and also extremely professional. If you're going to spend 10 80ish minute sessions with someone working your whole body this is pretty important. I always enjoyed Grant's enthusiasm for his work and will continue to see him for my bodywork needs. It's also worth saying that the space that Grant works out of, Ascend Body, is a beautiful light and airy studio setting, and it always feels like a treat to head up there from the busyness of 16th Street. read more

Grant's work with me continues to inform my daily life. I came to him with concerns over how past knee injuries are still showing up for me today. I left our work with a much greater understanding of how my own body works. I mean, I really got it. He clearly demonstrated to me the interconnectedness of my body, and the significance of held patterns. I also felt like he helped me to better sense the small but significant changes in my posture, gait, or breathing that can effect my whole well-being. That's no small thing. I use the visualizations he offered to daily nudge myself away from old patterns and into new ones. I 'see' my breathing and I can detect very small differences in my gait and posture now. So on top of being super personable, easy to talk with and intelligent, Grant is also obviously a talented Rolfer and health professional. Also, I have pain free jogging again after a long period of being nervous that I'd have to quit jogging. I'm super glad that I connected with him. I just completed a 10 session sequence with Grant. Eight months after back surgery, I was still suffering from a weak side where my injury was, and was feeling a fair bit of back pain. Grant taught me some different ways to modify my walking gait, and each session involved targeted corrections to loosen certain muscle areas and strengthen others. Somewhere around session six, I realized I had become twinge free, and haven't felt any back pain at all. Grant is a cool guy, looks, listens, works on a plan, and communicates and teaches it effectively. If I ever need a follow up, I'm definitely going to see him. read more

Minneapolis is a lucky city to be getting Grant back. This man has fixed me. I had messed up my gait, my bite, I was hunchy and my posture was way off. He did in about ten weeks what acupuncture, deep tissue, thai massage, and other methods failed to do over the course of years. I'm about a 1/4" taller and my posture is that of a soldier. My pain is down from a normal daily 7 to a 2 on a weird day. I can go to the gym and exercise again without my back and neck going insane. He has a way of understanding the history of all of the injuries I've had that led to my current posture and helped me relearn to walk with better posture after fixing my hips and ankles. Grant spent about 6 sessions working w me and all my skeletal problems .. I have had Rolfing before, a full series and then touch up work. And he was for sure on par, he has excellent assessment skills (watches you walk) he will ask details about what hurts and how and evaluate your movement. He gave me some reading to do also to help with my situation .. I came to Grant with serious lower back pain and chronic sciatica down my left leg. I did the 10 sessions with Grant along my own self-care at home and I can say that I've never been stronger. I had the pleasure of seeing Grant for his ten-session pack. Not only is he an affable, good-natured guy, he is an extremely competent health professional. I was somewhat reticent about Rolfing as I am fairly pain-tolerant but not a masochist. He did an extensive analysis of my issues (right knee pain, tendonitis, ankle pain) and then prescribed sessions that were specific to my issues. He always lets you know what he's going to do next, and regularly checks in to make sure you're OK with his technique. I like the fact that he doesn't only focus on the therapy, he also places equal emphasis on helping to modify other factors, such as gait, stance while standing, and other ergonomics that may be contributing to the problem. I saw real improvement in my pain, and feel like I now have the tools to keep it away. If he's good enough for Olympic Bi-Athletes, he's good enough for me! read more

I was skeptical about Rolfing, but I had witnessed firsthand how it helped a good friend to completely change her posture and become far more aware of her body. I decided to get in touch with Grant Earnhardt after I walked by his office on my way to yoga and I saw a Yelp deal for $25 off the first session. I had long felt that my shoulders were rounded in from years of sitting at a computer, and I wanted to see if Rolfing could help. From the very beginning Grant was fantastic to work with. He explained Rolfing and the progression of sessions and was responsive to my many questions. When I mentioned that I might not be open--or able to afford--the ten pack of sessions, he was completely reasonable and understanding and said we could plan on doing three sessions and see how I felt after that. As it turns out, I was learning so much about my body and seeing such good results that I decided to finish the ten-pack. Rolfing is pricey and can feel very intense, but it was completely worth it for me. This was my first experience with bodywork (and actually my first professional massage of any sort, and I think it is a great use of money. My posture is better, the issues I came in for were addressed, and Grant was really helpful in helping me to integrate better practices and posture into my daily life. Working with Grant was absolutely worth the time and money. I can't recommend his services more, particularly to those who may be on the fence. I recently completed 10 sessions of Rolfing and have really benefitted. My overall posture is better and I walk better. Before working with Grant, I had a significant amount of chronic, lower and upper back pain. Additionally, I had problems with my right side (hip and rotator cuff) which was probably the result of an old injury 5-6 years ago. Combined with regular exercise and strength training, I believe that the sessions with Grant have helped me achieve a state of mostly no pain and much less stiffness. Grant is a special person and is a very gifted body worker. His hands and mind are quite intuitive and he is also very knowledgeable about physiology. Grant is the reason I'm not just walking without pain but back to playing soccer.
