We…read morearrived around 430 pm ish, midweek, and basically had the place to ourselves for a bit before the dinner crowd. The older gentleman that worked there gave us free rein to sit wherever we liked, and menus followed. Their menu was quite interesting, flavors and dishes from Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Mexico. Everything sounded good! After debating for awhile on what to order, we decided on: Tacos Hondurenos- excellent! A good size portion of 4 rolled crispy tacos, think taquitos, filled with seasoned chicken and topped with their house made slaw, pico de gallo, and sauces. Their slaw was delicious , with a bit of sweetness to it. Definitely filling. Chancho Asado Nica - Absolutely delicious and packed with flavor. The pork was soo tender, I don't know what it was marinated with or how long, but OMG, the flavor was incredible! It was accompanied by rice and beans, their house made slaw, a fried cheese, and sweet plantains. I combined a little bit of everything into a bite and all the various flavors just merged merrily. Not a speck of food was left on my plate lol The food may have taken a bit to arrive to the table, but well worth it! And to add even more explosion to the flavors, their table side salsas were bomb! 3 different kinds, my fave was the green. We'll definitely be back! It might be less busy now as the construction worker foodies that made up most of their clients have dropped off now. However, coming to their brick and mortar location is more convenient for me as I enjoy having my lunch in an AC environment opposed to outside in the Texas heat. The menu is also expanded which I do like. I went with the Pork Frintanga plate. Pork is very tasty and chewy which is a nice touch to me. Add in the sweet plantain and fried cheese and this dish was definitely a winner. Big change up from the food truck meals of mainly papoose, which are a great food truck item. Service is a bit quiet, due to the language barrier, and their lack of speaking English probably hurts the business for non Spanish customers. For me, it adds some authenticity to the experience.

Their pupusas are cheap and delicious and usually keep good if you don't finish them in one sitting. The reason for the loss of a star is the service. The lady handling to go orders has no customer service skills. She stands there, and stares at you while you make your order. She doesn't try to engage and seems like she hates being there. The phones take a while to answer or they don't answer at all. The hours are also very short, with days closing at 7pm. The interior could be clean, but overall is decent enough and doesn't instill any ideas of being dirty. Some restaurants around this area are much less well kept than here! The little mini-market has plenty of little Salvadorean and Honduran treats! They have services to send money back home, a staple you'd see in any Central American store. Overall a great little restaurant, but it could be a little nicer and more welcoming, but delicious food makes up for it.

I cannot say that I am not disappointed. I was excited to visit this restaurant with the…read moreexpectation to have some flavorful food that I am familiar with. Unfortunately the food fell short and the service didn't meet the mark. The most surprising thing was how unseasoned the food was. The pork chop was basically the only item that popped with some flavor from seasoning. Everything tastes as if it was just cooked or boiled with in plain water with no seasoning or spices added. The pupusas were extremely bland. The service missed the mark as well. Staff seemed as if they really didn't want you to be there. And there was absolutely no urgency for anything. Dishes came out periodically with having to ask for an update on them. It seems like it could be a lively place but as I looked around most of the patrons were just waiting around the same for their food. Maybe the kitchen staff was having a bad day. Either way I was disappointed because I really had been looking forward to coming to this place but not sure if I'd be back anytime soon. Also the parking situation was a bit hectic.

I am delighted to give Gloria's Latin Cuisine at The Rim in San Antonio a well-deserved five-star…read morereview. Whenever I have the opportunity to visit The Rim, Gloria's is my first choice. The food is consistently exceptional, and the carne asada is truly outstanding--perfectly seasoned and complemented by delicious plantains, Yucatán-style fries, Spanish-style rice, and fresh chimichurri. The flavors are vibrant, carefully prepared, and memorable. Over the years, I have visited countless times and have never had a disappointing experience or a lackluster meal. The entire team--from the hosts and bussers to the food runners, servers, and managers--demonstrates remarkable professionalism, attentiveness, courtesy, and efficiency. Their commitment to hospitality is evident in every detail. The ambiance is equally impressive. The artwork, music, décor, and overall design come together beautifully to create an atmosphere that feels both sophisticated and inviting. I typically visit during the early afternoon on weekdays, but I have also enjoyed several Friday and Saturday evenings, when the restaurant transforms into an especially vibrant and energetic experience. The waterfall wall is just one of the many striking elements that makes the space so memorable. Gloria's Latin Cuisine at The Rim consistently delivers exceptional food, outstanding service, and an unforgettable atmosphere. If you are anywhere in the San Antonio area, I highly recommend visiting--you will not be disappointed.

While a torta is what people recommended, my mind immediately went to tacos when I saw that option. As you all probably know with me, I'm a sucker for any dish that has the word taco in it. Pivoting to those, I decided on a trio of the Taco Chilango (w/ carnitas), the pastor taco, and the taco gringa. These concoctions are out of this world with the combination of ingredients, tenderness and flavors of the meats, and the consistency of the warm tortilla. The crema on top of these is the perfect final touch. After devouring these, I can only imagine what the torta tastes like! Definitely next time! You'll find this spot when you hear some smooth mexican music blaring combined with the smell of chorizo/carnitas/tortillas emulating from this small shack. I hope to have another assignment near here so I can come back to this spot!

This pupuseria is next to a tire shop. This is not a restaurant, but a food truck…read more My mother-in-law and wife were craving pupusas, but being new to San Antonio, we did not know the in and outs of pupuserias and so we decided on Pupusas Machado. When we arrived, we expected a restaurant, but found a food truck. Sadly, this is only to go as there is no seating to eat there. The pupusas were a lot smaller than we hard originally expected coming from California and having a regular spot that always gave us oversized pupusas. But don't let the small size fool you, the recipe they had was awesome! Their curtido (pickled salad) was arguably the best I've had yet! The hours are indeed weird, as it opens from 6pm to 1am. There is not really a parking spot while waiting for the food, but you can park in front of the food truck/cart. During the earlier times, this can be a busy street, so be mindful as you may miss the entrance. I would suggest calling to place an order, as larger orders may take longer to cook. This is for sure our go to pupuseria!
