I walked around and was stunned to realize that not only were their prices way more than any antique store I've ever been in, but items were ridiculously expensive and many either damaged or reproductions. I wonder if this place ever went out of business. I loved a lot of pieces in this store but almost everything was damaged, a reproduction, or so over priced it wasn't worth buying. The owner is so nasty and treats a lot of customers with disrespect. I found this store online a few years back. Took the treck out to New Jersey, in hopes to find things to decorate my new home with. I did in fact find a nice mid century clock that I loved, and when I took it to the register, and asked if it worked, they put a battery in it, and in fact it didn't work. I still made an offer on the clock, in which the owner was very rude about. I remember leaving there with a bad taste in my mouth. Fast forward, now I'm a small business owner, and have a vintage shop. I'm constantly on the lookout for amazing and affordable treasures for my customers. My husband and I found an online ad for this place, stating they lost their lease, and we're having a big sale. I thought I'd give it another go, and this time was WORSE than the first. We were there FULLY prepared to spend money, but as soon as the owner came over and started giving us prices, I absolutely balked. The items I brought up were not of major value, in fact they were items I have bought and sold many times. Things I was familiar with, and he was very rude to us. In fact, he raised his voice in front of other customers who had the same shocked look as me. I have never encountered someone so rude, so it is no surprise to me that they lost their lease. Not to be a Debbie Downer, the selection is great, prices are high, but what really did me in was the conversation. The shopkeeper was a really nice guy and i'm sure they meant nothing by it but they went on way too long about their screenplay for comfort. I won't divulge too many details for copyright reasons but between accusing George Bush of animal cruelty and pushing their views on abortion all through the lenses of Jesus Christ it was a bit much. Nothing wrong with a little conversation but for over an hour I didn't know how to leave it and ended up missing 75% of the store. Whatever reputation they may have had once upon a time is non-existent now. What a fiasco. Bait and switch prices on Facebook Marketplace. Hostile and abusive communication. He yelled at me when I called and hung up on me. I paid them for a purchase via FB the owner agreed to then he refused to acknowledge the agreement. Maybe in person is the best way to go, but I would not recommend going to this unscrupulous business. He literally took my money and didn't honor the sale. I am now working with FB & PayPal to hopefully get a refund. Note the only good reviews are from several years ago, and see how hostile he is in his responses. AVOID! read more

My husband works for them, and they are great people! The store is huge, and it's filled with endless amounts of everything (which is great!) I had read all the sometimes-mixed reviews and decided to check it out myself. This place is incredible, but I can see how folks could get the wrong impression. With a name like "Granny's Attic" and the dusty old outside appearance, you can see how people might think this was one of those rummage stores that try to pass themselves off as "antique" stores. This is not that. If Neiman Marcus were an antique store, it would be Granny's Attic. This is not where you go to find a $500 antique dining set - you have to troll craigslist like the rest of us. This is where you go with your fancy-pants designer and furnish your penthouse in gorgeous antiques. Or, like the rest of us, you go here to find the one or two beautiful splurge items that add character to a room. There is something of a display challenge in that there is so much incredible stuff here (literally boggles the mind with decorating possibilities), you simply cannot appreciate it. It wants for a stately showroom (but where's the fun in that). This stuff is very high end and there are some extremely interesting pieces. And, I'll just add that we were warmly welcomed by the owner who couldn't have been friendlier (despite me having two little boys in tow, in an antique shop, what was I thinking?!?). He left us alone to ogle the merchandise but willingly traipsed all over when I wanted a price on something. So, I say, Go! The place had a large selection which was fun to look through, however I was disgusted with the dog droppings I found throughout the store because they kept a dog there, not to mention the stench of peanut butter from the dog treats. Cons: Very little merchandise is priced, what is priced is priced quite high and when asked for a price on unpriced merchandise, Maury throws out ridiculously high #'s. I'm a dealer and we dealers work with one another & sell to each other at wholesale not retail +. Tried to bundle but Maury won't move much on the #'s unless you're ready to drop thousands. It is a ginormous store and I enjoyed just looking around. I have now been there three times and the owner, Maury has been quite nice. What a wonderful store! From the moment I walked in, I was in awe. Every possible thing you can think of. I only saw half of the first floor! The gentleman ( Maury) that greeted me , was knowledgeable and very fair. I have dealt with dealers before, and it was always business. Not with this man. He has a Love for older, unique things. I left happy, and he was genuinely happy that I was happy. After a day of contemplation I decided to post my first review ever. I left this business saddened. I have decided to never return to a "antique market " again. I saw belongings of those gone thrown in dismay collecting dust and left to deteriorate attached to an unrealistic price point. A place full of antique misfits. It will give you the realization that no one else will care about your stuff when you're gone, it's just stuff. I believe the fate of the inventory will end up in the dumpster. I visited Granny's Attic for the first time this morning and was so happy I gave it a shot. I was welcomed by Maury, the owner, and he invited me to take as long as I needed browsing and to ask for any help if needed. I went in looking for a present for my mom and left with that plus. If you're looking for an impressive selection of anything antique, this is your store! Granny's is three floors of antiques - better than an antique show! There is ZERO pressure to buy anything which I loved. Prices were, in my opinion, very reasonable for anyone that is familiar with antiques. My husband and I are looking for a dresser. We walked into Granny's Attic and found ouselves in a maze of furniture, lamps, paintings and diverse wonderful things. There were people there. A man we presumed to be the manager was having an argument with a customer about internet prices. We were there about an hour and no one asked us what we were looking for. We were astonished at the prices for what is essentially used furniture and not fine antiques. I have shopped at many places like this in the past and although there is a vast selection of items to chose from, their prices are too high and the customer service could be greatly improved. read more

I just returned home after being yelled at by the shopkeeper. My husband and I were looking for art for a gallery wall. The owner gave us prices of each one along the way. When we finally narrowed it down to the five we wanted the price for one had increased by $50. We decided to forgo them and put the pieces away. On our way out he began to yell at us and tell us it was wrong to come in and be annoying if we weren't going to buy them. I told him calmly that we enjoyed looking at the many lovely pieces but that the cost was too high for my budget. For the most part Granny's is a warehouse full of over-priced knock-offs. There's the occasional find, but you have to work hard at it.

I called this store with the intention of them looking to buy my entire house full of furniture as my home was sold and am moving out of state. I thought this is what they did... I live in a 4000 square foot home in the neighborhood. His first statement was..... well I need to take pictures and price everything!! Then he says he can only come during the day and he does not travel far - so the 10 minutes would be okay!! His next statement was that he would need to think about this as well... oh, and since I worked 9 to 5 , he did not look at items after 5, so I'd have to really work around this stores schedule!!!!! Granny's Attic is much bigger than any of the antique shops my parents took me to when I was a child. I went there a few months ago with my wife and children in search of furniture for our new home. My wife fell in love with some reproduction pieces at Valley Furniture in Watchung. Before taking the leap, we decided to try Granny's attic. I was very happy we did. We ended up buying a magnificent dining room table, with one leaf and 8 chairs. We also bought two silk covered chairs that would have cost us thousands of dollars each at Valley. On our first trip we spent three hours wandering the store. We went later in the day when it was a little slower and the owner was very helpful. He moved some furniture around for my wife so she could see different table and chair combinations. Granny's isn't cheap, but the prices are fair. While we were there we did see some customers get upset because they couldn't get what they wanted for a garage sale price. They probably should have gone to a thrift store. For us, it was easier than spending a year scouring garage sales. The owner was also very nice to my son who fell in love with a clock, and worked out a deal with an 11 year old. My son loves the place and wants to go back. Granny's later found an extra leaf that went with our table and called us, letting us have it for no extra charge. They did a great job on delivery and cleaned up the furniture before delivery. My wife plans to go back and furnish a few more rooms. She really loves shopping there. I was happy spending a few thousand on a dining room table instead of the 10k it would have cost me for the reproduction she originally wanted at Valley. We need a few more chairs, end tables, coffee tables, etc. Just remember...the place is huge, so give yourself a few hours to wander all the floors and isles. With Granny's we will have our house furnrished in less than a year....instead of spreading our purchases out at the $$$ reproductiomn stores. I snuck out a few weekends ago to go browse on my own. I spent a few hours there. You do have to dig and have an idea of what you are looking for, Antiques, reproductions, 50's,60's,70's, 80's, etc. Tables, chairs, barrister book cases, hutches, beds, etc. read more

Great great place. I found Granny's Attic on Craig's List advertising a desk. I went up to see it. It was nice and they still had it. After seeing all 3 floors, I spoke to a very nice sales person and told him what I was looking for. He showed me 3 other desks that I missed and gave me a brief antique lesson. I wound up purchasing a beautiful French desk...yes, that came from France. It is stunning and special. I also purchased a French coffee table and an oil painting of a dog. The latter 2 was unplanned. Now I'm looking for a French mirror and I think I'm going to have to take another trip up. Glad the store is around when I need them. I am amazed at the sheer size and inventory of this store. I have been there a few times and have always been very pleased with my purchases. There's so much to see and plenty of interesting pieces. Mauri the owner is a super friendly gentleman who is passionate about his items and answered any of my questions. He's a fun guy to chat with as well. You can get lost in this place and there's stuff in every corner. My only gripe is that I wish there was a fourth floor.... Because I wanted to keep going! read more

I agree with Jack that items there are overpriced. The place is cluttered and there are no prices on any items. Way overpriced and pretentious as if Oprah Winfrey and Bill Gates are customers there. Granny's Attic offends buyers when they disagree with the price quote as you can tell by the response Granny's Attic posted that they can't compete with Salvation army or IKEA. Unrealistic, overpriced and offensive. The market dictates what the prices are and not what the seller wishes to have. My boyfriend lets me come here about twice a year as a treat, and they truly have the most one of a kind, beautiful and genuinely old pieces that you'll ever see. They are expensive, yes, but in my opinion, the quality of the stuff fairly matches the prices. These are REAL pieces: ornately carved furniture, heavy brass parts, unbelievable oil paintings. I was particularly floored this time around by all the light fixtures, as finding and restoring them has become a hobby of mine and I know for a fact what "good" fixtures look like...there are TONS of them. I'd much rather save and drop a big buck on good, heirloom pieces that I'd keep forever vs. Wayfair or IKEA crap that is a cheap thrill but will fall apart in a year tops. Now I just have to go back without my boyfriend so I can carefully pick through all three floors and spend a good couple hours doing so! read more

Price tags don't mean a thing at this shop. They check every item online before you check out and if they find it to be something special they will take it off the floor and tell you it is no longer for sale and that they never agreed to sell you the item. Basically they have their customers pick though mounds of garbage to find the diamonds then they keep them for themselves. I do not recommend at all, steer clear of the know-it-all, "professional", owner. read more

We have been coming to see Maury and the crew for at least 10 years. You can spend a whole day just browsing through 3 floors and looking at things. There is a ton of stuff of varied quality - excellent, middle of the road and not so good. But what impresses me about Maury is that as much stuff as he has, he knows the value of most items, even the small ones. You can describe the item and where it is and he will tell you about it and the price. I found through the years that his prices are in the ballpark. If you are looking for bargains this may not be for you but if you are looking for unique, fun or interesting things at a reasonable price then there is plenty to find here. I really love this place! I've been a couple of times, and plan on going again to shop for more furniture. Yes, it's true, a couple of the people who work there aren't especially bright and cheery, but it's north Jersey. What do you expect? Everyone in this general region is miserable. Although, the man I worked with was very pleasant and kind! I bought a beautiful mahogany chest of drawers here. The list price was 400 dollars. I offered $320 cash, and he accepted that without any uncomfortable hounding or pushing. The building is huge with such an incredible selection. The only bad thing about that is that at times, you feel like you can't really see the forest for the trees. It's a touch overwhelming, but it's an awesome place. We need a new bed frame, so I'm probably going to be making another trip here soon! read more

I cannot speak for the store itself, I have not set foot inside it, I can only speak for their compete lack of professionalism and respect towards prospective customers. I responded to a cluttered disorganized craigslist "estate sale" and among the items was a "1960's peugaot moped" for an unlisted price ..the fact that they misspelled the name suggested that they knew nothing about what they were selling. Not even taking the time to correctly jot down the make and model of it! And after calling them, I inquired about it, Maury told me he got it from a family who recently had a loss.....blah blah blah. I did not care. I wanted to know about the bike itself... not the people he screwed, I asked if he had photos. He told me "I'm trying to run a business here, I can't take photos of every item" so I inquire further, he cannot tell me the year of it, he did not know if it ran, did not have the title, he simply knew it was bluish in color he knew nothing at all about what he was selling. Okay that's understandable not everyone is interested on vintage moped and motorcycles. Even though its illegal in nj to sell any vehicle without a title or proper paperwork So I ask him.....how much are you asking for it? That was the only thing he knew about it! He responded back...no....he PROCLAIMED.... "I WANT $1000 FOR IT" okay.... I replied "may I ask how you arrived at that number?" $1000 is roughly double what a running titled moped in perfect shape goes for, but perhaps he knows something I don't, maybe the pope himself rode this particular moped maybe it was a rare model. And I kid you not he told me "I pulled the price out of my butt" ...this is where the conversation really went south, I replied back with "I see" I was about to inform him of the Kelly blue book value of it when he went off on me saying how he "caters to Hollywood" wtf? And how he had another just like it sell last week for $1200 in worse condition. I simply said good luck and hung up. Please know what you're selling. This guy is the kind of scum that pillages your dead mothers house antiques, low balls you and turns around and flips them. The most important advice in the dealing of anything is this : know what you are buying and know what you are selling.
