They cannot measure correctly and then will not admit when they make a mistake. I hired them to install 2 bathroom counters with sinks, one was fine but the other one was measured wrong and the sink was not centered. This was on a 32" vanity, the sink was 2 inches off. I called and left messages and could not get a call back. Stopped at the office. They claimed that my previous sink must have been the same way. Not true, since we had to adjust the plumbing, which was then in the way of the drawers, so we had to cut them in the back so they would close properly. I understand mistakes are made, but when you cannot admit and correct or even return several messages, it leads me to believe that this happens a lot with this company. read more

Here is a copy of my review from Angie's List: How did it go you ask? Not very well at all: We found Granite Home Designs online, and since they had their office fairly close to us we decided to give them a call to set up a Saturday appointment (you have to arrange an appointment to be able to go to their office on Saturday). Right away things were a bit strange. Anytime I would call them during their normal weekday business hours to try to set up a Saturday appointment I would get voicemail. I'd then leave a message on a Friday, hoping to arrange a Saturday appointment, and not hear back from someone until Tuesday of the following week?? This happened 2 weeks until we were finally able to secure an appointment at their office on 2/15/14. On 2/15 we arrived 10 minutes early to meet Andrea at the Oxford Office. The doors were locked and the place was dark. When it got to be the time of the appointment and no one showed up (or called) we were ready to leave. Then, 5 minutes past the appointment time Andrea comes walking up. We then went inside the small building and got the quote. Afterwards we drove to 3 other granite companies that had normal walk-in Saturday hours and nice showrooms (Granite Home Design's Oxford location is not a showroom and offers little to give examples or get ideas). On Sunday, 2/16, I wrote an email to Andrea to get answers to some questions. By Wednesday, 2/19, I still did not get a reply so I had to call them back to find out what was going on. Finally on Wednesday evening I had a reply from them. I then wrote back to a lady named Adriana to tell her how poor the service has already been from her company and that it really seems like they don't take potential customers very serious. Her reply to me did not even fully answer questions I had about doing the measurements and available install dates, so I had to email back to ask the same questions again. On Wednesday, 2/26, I wanted to schedule a date for doing the measurements. I had to place a least a dozen calls to their office before I was able to get a person and not voicemail. Andrea set it up for Adrianna to come out on Friday, 2/28, at about 5:30 PM. As I'm leaving work early to make it home for the appointment I get a call from Andrea at about 4PM, saying that Adrianna can't make it tonight because "someone was in the hospital". Andrea then asked if Monday, 3/3, would be ok? I was not happy at all about this last minute cancellation, but what could I do? I agreed to Monday and sent an email to Andrea over the weekend to confirm. Here's where this company really shows its true colors: On Monday, 3/3/14, as I'm leaving work early again to meet Adriana at my home, I turn on my cellphone and this email comes through: After reviewing the calendar this morning it has been determined that there will not be an available date for new projects until after Easter. Granite Home Design reserves the right to cancel/move any appointments if is deemed necessary. We wish you the best of luck with your project and apologize for any inconvenience. I live in Oxford in and the company is right down the street they were rude. My kitchen was tore apart for days they didn't care the owner was terrible the workers are even more terrible I do not recommend this company. I couldn't believe the way I was treated after they took my money I am telling you do not use this company. 10 months later the backsplash and countertops look terrible and lady Is harassing us telling us that I need to change my reviews before they come out and work. We had such high hopes for GHD but unfortunately, things didn't work out well AT ALL. I apologize for the long review but i want to help protect other from a potential big investment fail... We shopped around for a good deal oon new granite for our master bath and powder room. GHD had a good price and since they were local, we wanted to work with them. they sent us to the warehouse in Utica to pick out our granite and all was fine. We found a beautiful color (Majestic brown I believe) and it had a brushed finish - slightly rough and rustic - gorgeous! The warehouse instructed us to pick 2 slabs as there we cracks along the top and bottom edge. Not an issue as they could cut the bigger pieces down the middle and then cut the back splash pieces from the rest, avoiding the cracked areas. (You can already see where this is going...) The installers arrived and started their work. What should have taken a couple of hours took 6 hours to complete. The guys were still installing when I got home around 8pm. The Powder Room The slab was installed with a noticeable crack along the front edge of the slab and a chunk was missing. This is a gray and white color slab - and they used a tan-colored putty to try to patch what was missing. They installed an oval undermount sink. When we looked at it, it appeared that the hole had been hand cut as the opening was not even but jagged with flat spots. On top of that, when they installed the sink, they chipped the porcelain and tried to cover it up with a little white silicon (I saw a smear of caulk on the side of the sink and when I wiped it off, it revealed the chipped porcelain). The Master Bath This slab was also installed with a noticeable crack along the front edge. It ran about 2" from the edge and went for about 2 feet to the right side of the slab, which was an exposed corner. One bump and the entire edge would have easily cracked off. The 2 sink openings were better than the powder room but still not perfectly cut. But the big issue was with the faucet holes on the left sink - they weren't even centered and when I pushed the faucet fixture all the way to one side, it still wasn't enough to center it on the sink. Through out the process, the older gentleman who installed the granite spoke little English and indicated that the language was a barrier. We shared this account with friend who had used GHD and they mentioned the same thing but DID hear the guys conversing freely in English...they just acted like they couldn't understand to avoid the confrontation. The Solution We were NOT happy and would not live with lousy job. We called the credit union the next morning and IMMEDIATELY issued a stop-payment to make sure our check wasn't cashed. That gave us leverage to make sure we got some results. We asked the saleswoman to come see what had happened but she wouldn't come to the house but sent the owner instead. He came and made excuses that this particular kind of granite was very fragile and susceptible to cracking. (If so, why do the warehouses sell so much of it? why would they install it?) He also said that when the sink holes were cut, the varied hardness of the gray and white granite caused the uneven lines. (Wait, most fabricators use a water jet that cuts the slab - and it is computer controlled, so how it THAT possible?) He also finally admitted that they would have lost money on the job if they cut our counters from 2 slabs so they used just the one (the one that was cracked along the top and bottom edges...hence both counters would have cracks). BTW - I'm not a stone craftsman but ti seems that had they installed the slabs with the cracks toward the back wall, under the backsplash, none of the cracks would have been exposed or visible. In the end, the owner offered to remove the slabs and install ANOTHER color of our choice but would not install this same color or would give us our money back. We GLADLY accepted the full refund and went with another local company (Motor City Granite in downtown Lake Orion) who came out and installed the same granite within less than a week. No cracks, sink holes cut perfectly, faucet holes centered - and they were down in under 2 hours. In all fairness, I believe the owner was trying to do a good job - but cut corners by using only one slab ad not hiring the best people to work for him. His name is on the line - and yet these installers still got paid - the owner didn't. If he had hired people who cared about what they do and shared his vision, he would likely be in a better situation. read more
