Castle Glen is always on my must visit places when we go to Stanthorpe…read more The owner is a very lovely man who not only makes wines, but liquers, whiskeys and now beer! He makes all of the alcohol on site and loves to experiment with different flavours and textures. My partner (the beer Connoisseur) was very curious to try the beers. As he is Britsh and German by heritage, he does know a thing or two about beer! He found the beers a bit hit and miss. He really liked the stout but did not like the pilsner beer. After sampling most of them, he settled on the stout, ginger and wheat beers. I also purchased a choc-mint liquer which I have had in the past and really enjoyed. He has a very large selection of liquers and you will defintely find one that will appeal to you. This is a must-stop place in Stanthorpe - not just to sample some finely made alcohol but just to admire the castle!

The "castle" is surrounded by quiet vineyard and a large neat forecourt. I was surprised at the size of the range- from port to alcoholic ginger beer, rum liqueur to something called sex at sunset- a blend of 9 liqueurs and wine. To be honest, the range wouldn't be as big if not for the different shaped bottles, but the extent of flavours is still amazing. You will find anything there you wish to try, and they even have little 100ml individual bottles behind the counter for purchase if you can't commit to everything!

And judging by how busy the place is every time we go - I'm guessing we aren't alone. They serve bar-style food like burgers, wraps, chips etc, but with a fancy twist such as Chili Cheese Fries and Beer ice cream. The portions are not huge, but the prices are also quite reasonable. Their Wednesday night special $12 ribs are absolutely delicious. Pumpyard Bar & Brewery is the first and only brewery in Ipswich since 1903, and being a brewery, there is always a good variety of beer to be had - both in-house brewed as well as more common bottled beer. Some of their brewed beer is really interesting, like their Wabbit Saison which is a carrot beer, and my personal favorite - the Coffee Cream Ale which is a beer brewed with coffee - awesome! Some of the beers like the Coffee Cream Ale are seasonal, so unfortunately are not available all of the time. They also sell take-home growlers so you can take your favorite beer home too :) With a great atmosphere complete with beer vats right in the dining area, live music on Sunday's and friendly staff, it's easy to see why this place is very quickly becoming a favorite :)

Two of us went for the light lunch with calamari.....very nice and a good size. Our other diners went for the blue eyed cod and fish & chips. They were suitably fed too. We drank the local beers and they were good. The service was attentive too. Parking can be a problem so go for an early time.

The Pacific Hotel which sits just above Main Beach in Yamba is one of those country town gems that has the best local feel. There's a bar in the front and a bistro in the back with a main stage in the corner where bands from all around the Northern Rivers come on various days, check their website if coming to see some live music is your thing. Or if you're like me and just want to have a relaxing lunch overlooking the ocean grab a seat in the bistro. All the tables are by the giant glass windows which overlook the cliffs and beach. There's a great bistro menu with classic pub fare as well as fresh seafood from the area (oysters from Wooli and fish from Yamba). The food is great. I had the salt and pepper squid which was tender and fresh, Dad has a steak sandwich which was cooked perfectly on turkish bread (a nice light alternative if you want my opinion) and Mum had pork skewers (an entree but came out the size of a main). Topping off the food I had sticky date pudding for dessert which was the only thing that was a slightly let down. Great flavour but a little dry, thankfully there was plenty of butterscotch sauce and ice cream to remedy that. The fact that the food and service are great is just the tip of the iceberg with this pub. You really want to just come for the view. Any day it's going to be great, rain or sunshine.
