I have recently boarded my 2 dogs, uno and lily, at granite bay kennel and i have neverbeen happier with a dog kennel. I was greeted by two employees Sean and Conrad, who my dogs warmed up to almost instantly. They gave me an awesome tourover the property and i was very impressed. The grass areas down back were impressive, and everything was very clean and organized on the inside. I got to see where my dogs were sleeping and they had lots of bedding and looked happy and comfortable. They were amazing on prices and had no hidden fees, they have year round buy one get one free on their exercises. I had my poodles groomed during their stay and they were fantastic looking. 5 stars all the way! will absolutely be returning soon! read more

We left our 10 lb. Havanese there on New Year's eve. for two nights. First problem we had was a communication problem. Over the phone they told us we couldn't pick up New Year's day ... but we could pick him up the next day with no extra charge. When we went to pick him up on the 2nd, they said we could have picked him up on the 1st for an extra $40 "special" pick up charge, and when they said "no extra charge", they meant no $40 "special" pick up charge, but they were still charging for the 2nd night. Most businesses try to err in the customer's favor for miscommunications, but they wouldn't budge and had our dog, so we paid for two nights. Second thing we noticed was that when our dog got into the car, he wouldn't stop whining. We eventually figured out he wanted some water so we gave him a small cup of water which he licked clean. Then he kept whining until we gave him a second cup. We have never seen him do that before. Last thing is when we went to take him to my grandparent's house a couple weeks later, he *really* didn't want to go into the car. He usually loves car rides, but he was clearly scared that he was going back to the same kennel. We are still giving 2 stars because he wasn't hurt or anything, and the people were friendly enough even though they wouldn't budge on the price even while admitting they may not have been entirely clear. We won't go here again. read more

We have been boarding our rescued Great Danes with Granite Bay for twenty years and I have no complaints. The kennel manager Conrad is a wonder. The kennels are clean and the grounds manicured. We've boarded our lab here several times and have been very happy each time. I didn't give 5 stars as the first time we dropped him off I was told I could not tour the kennels which gave me a bad feeling but I guess there were times when they allowed touring? I don't know. I looked from inside and they looked like standard kennels. Some inside, some outside space. We paid extra for run and play sessions as our pup is pretty active. He came home tired and smelling nice and clean. They do require recent shot records which I greatly appreciate as I don't want my dog coming home with bordetella. They are clear on their fees and how these are effected by holiday/weekend pick ups. I've never felt they were being deceiving or unfair in these practices as they are pretty standard. The land is beautiful. The facilities I was able to see were clean and smelled fine. The owners breed dogs and had them in the office and I could tell they were well cared for. Dog lovers are a special breed and I can feel that when I drop off the big guy to play for a few days at GBK. We are happy with this kennel and will continue to use them. read more

So greatful to Granite Bay Kennels! We have a beautiful Malamute and we trust this Kennel and staff to take great care of our guy. It has been a tough year dealing with cancer treatments and medical appointments that we have travel over an hour away from home. We do not like leaving our Mal at home alone for more 4 to 5 hours. Granite Bay Kennels provides a safe caring place to leave him without concern. The staff is wonderful especially the dog whisper Conrad! The owner and staff are very familiar with the northern breeds, dog lovers first, breeders of prize winning show dogs. They have welcomed us like family and been very flexible to meet our needs. We use their day care often and kenneled our Mal several times when we have gone on trips without any issues. Our dog always is happy to see the staff, which to us is a good sign. They offer lots of service. Their grooming has been excellent. The facilities appear to be very clean and tidy - no smells. A well run operation. I have used Granite Bay Kennels since they opened approximately 10 years ago and my dogs love it there, they get excited when we turn down their road. To me, that's a great sign. The kennel is always clean and the staff is friendly and sweet to the dogs. I have used this kennel for grooming and they always do a fabulous job. The owners are hands on and they have a great long term employee named Conrad that you can tell genuinely cares for the animals. My dogs have stayed for daycare and for over a week at times and I couldn't be happier with the care they receive here, it's nice to be able to go on vacation and have peace of mind knowing that your babies are in great hands. I have boarded my Portuguese Water Dogs here many times. All of the employees are very nice and loving towards all dogs. I have boarded my dogs at other kennels before but my dogs always seem to do best at granite bay kennels. They always come home happy and healthy. I just moved to the area & wished I had read more of these reviews before . . . hindsight is always 20/20! I dropped off my Australian Shepherd for about 5 days & scheduled a bath before pick up (they said they give baths the day before). I got my dog returned with an A+ report. He was wet underneath (even though his bath was yesterday?), smelled funny & had a traumatized look on his face (super weird because he's always super happy when I pick him up from boarding). He's an energetic alpha dog & was acting extremely lethargic. They just handed him over, didn't feel the need to mention the PUNCTURE WOUNDS on his cheek or that he'd chewed 3 of his 4 paws completely RAW until they were oozing!! He's never had issues with chewing his paws before, but I'm guessing he either stepped in something that was bothering him or burned his pads. I didn't notice the paws until I got home, but I noticed his cheek halfway home. I turned right around to talk to the owner (who was conveniently unreachable) & the dog bather (also unreachable). There was NO WAY the dog bather didn't see the puncture wounds! I was told the owner would get in touch with me (never did). The lady in the front office didn't seem to know what to do. Finally, the owner called her & told her to tell me that it was probably a "hot spot." There was a man standing just outside next to his truck (not sure who he was) that looked at my dog & then proceeded to tell me that they always separate dogs, definitely couldn't be a bite . . . REALLY? It was either a bite or he snagged himself on a fence, but whatever it was . . . it was BAD & traumatizing!! He told me that I could take him to their vet in Folsom if I needed to, but never gave me his name & instructions on how to go about doing this. Here's a photo of his cheek right when I picked him up & his paws 2.5 weeks later (still healing). PLEASE don't drop your dog off here! read more

We have a rescue dog that is high anxiety. After 7 years she still suffers abandonment issues. The staff at Granite Bay Kennels is exceptional! I took Chloe to 3 days of doggie day care in May of 2019 for 3 hrs a day to get her used to the team there. I took her on day one with a muzzle and when I picked her up the muzzle was gone and was never needed again. By the time we retired June 7 2019 we were able to leave her for a week while we traveled. The Granite Bay Kennel team is loving, caring and very professional. This is not to say she is not thrilled when we return; but we don't worry while we are gone and appreciate the staff understands the issues of our baby girl. No need to look further as this team goes above and beyond our expectations. read more

My dad and I have been using this kennel regularly (3-4 times/year) for the past 5+ years and I have only positive things to say about the people and the facility. My dog doesn't even seem to mind going to the kennel, and he is always the exact same happy dog when he comes home, no adjustment period. I don't even feel sad dropping him off there anymore. This kennel is out in the country and the owners live on site in a house adjacent to the kennel. They appear to breed and show some type of big white fluffy dog, which indicates to me that they are dog lovers. I know the dogs get to run around and play outside during the day, which is a huge plus for me. The dogs sleep in crates. Sometimes they do stink when you pick them up. I think that's pretty standard for a kennel. If you're considering this kennel, but are still unsure, read some other online reviews and you'll get a more accurate idea of public opinion. read more

This is a wonderful kennel with people who genuinely care about all the dogs! I have a pet and a show dog and this is the only place I trust with my babies. They have a nice routine, are well cared for and the staff is very friendly and wonderful with the dogs. Couple of issues that lowered the score... For a 3 day overnight, it was my puppy's first ever experience at a kennel. We did tour and the employee did show us where the dogs sleep, play and roam. However, the things that I am disappointed at are: 1. My dog/puppy came bac smelling like it was left in its own urine. It's chest and bottom were extremely dirty and smell. I wonder what happened because if it was kept in a dry area the front and back would not have hair clumped together. 2. I happen to weigh my dog the day I took it into the kennel. When I got my dog back, it looked like it had lost a lot of weight. I seriously see it in her when started brushed the think coat. They said the dog ate but I am not convienced! Did they feed her enough??? Oh and when we were picking the dog up, they had not fed her breakfast. It was already 10:30 am, wow! Other than that, the place is large, grounds are clean, staff was okay, and space given to the dogs are adequate. No other complaints. However, because the above 2 reasons are so important that I could not give it any more stars. read more

Grandit bay Kennel is a great place to leave your dog. It's clean, dogs are exercised and interacted with on a daily basis. WOW it took Granite Bay almost 2 years to reply to my Review? They write that I never asked to speak to a manager or an owner? They welcome treats or food to be brought in? DID YOU NO READ MY REVIEW? We did bring treats, your staff did not give them to our dogs. In addition it was 25 degrees that weekend, and the dogs are outside during the day in a kennel. We brought our own pets blankets because we were told we could and that you would use them. Our pets are familiar with their blankets, but nevertheless you did not use them after you told us that you would! We were also told that we could pick up our dogs when we did by Kelly and there was no mention of an additional fee. I am shocked that it took you almost 2 years to reply. I NEVER RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM THE OWNER OR A MANAGER although it was obvious that we were not happy, and I am certain that you saw this review and did not even bother to call us. As far as new customer, sure we were, but my brother was a regular customer and obviously after out HORRIBLE experience they never returned to your kennel. Your Service was HORRIBLE and your staff other than Kelly was RUDE! Now you want to open up the can of worms again so we can relive how upset we were over your HORRIBLE service! I see another review of your place where it appears that there was another mis-communication about an additional fee. Oh Yes It was in the small print... Cold intake process. They do not let you see beyond the office so you have no idea where your dog is going to be kept. My dog came back smelling as if he had laid in his own urine and feces the entire time. The smell was so bad I had to immediately wash and bathe my dog the minute we got home; the car ride home was awful. I read this on another review here as well, so I know this is a problem. Just when you want to love on and cuddle your dog due to being away for a few days, you cannot because the smell is enough to gag you. The small cozy and blanket I brought - I was told that it wasn't necessary. I would advise EVERYONE to avoid this place like the plague. Taking my dog here was a HUGE mistake. I envision a cold metal cage where the dogs are grouped according to their size, similar to the rooms at the pound. The owners charge extra for dropping off or picking up on Sunday, which I needed to do. The owners are largely absentee, just raking in the dough from this "business", hiring minimum wage workers who seem very unhappy (which speaks volumes) to perform the intake process and the once-daily feeding, fresh water (hopefully) and potty cleanup. I say once-daily because it's clear the care of the dogs is obviously severely lacking. Do not give your business to these greedy, heartless owners. read more
