Tried to go on July 25, but the sign said closed for the season. I assume it has to do with school starting soon but it was too bad.

Unlike some of the similar concepts in the Indy area, this one charges by the cup size, not the weight of the items you purchase. So, feel free to load up! The shop has free parking in the lot out front. Inside, the large white interior makes the place look huge. There is the central counter in the middle where you pay for your items with all the toppings on the back side of the counter area. To your left is a counter with the cups you choose. On the back wall are the ten flavors of soft serve with the option of pairing two flavors that have complimentary tastes as the middle lever of each station. If you would rather mix two flavors from different stations, then you just need to fill one side then the other, or stack them. Once you've added your soft serve, you add your toppings as desired before paying at the front of the counter. Seating is available inside. Napkins and spoons are sitting out, not handed to you by the staff. I've seen more flavors available in Indy, so I can't say this is the best place for soft serve, but it has enough options that most folks will find something they like. Friendly staff were helpful and offered explanations or assistance when needed. Review #2979

The staff here are SO friendly and there are plenty of spaces to sit. I sat on a cushioned chair and enjoyed my snack very much. They explained to me that in addition to frozen yogurt, they also offer gelato, gelati, ice cream, and frozen custard. I wound up going with a mix of gelato and frozen custard. They had a nice assortment of toppings, too. I went with some fruit for sure but I'm a huge fan of boba pearls and they had an AWESOME selection of them! I usually only see strawberry or mango pearls at places like this, but they also had blueberry ones and pineapple. Sooo good! I would highly recommend this spot to anyone who is on the fence about a dessert spot.

The vegan flavours are somewhat less interesting than the some of the dairy flavours, but still offers some variety: they always carry vegan vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and grasshopper. You can also get any of the vegan flavours in your sundae/blizz/whatever, so this is actually a very good place if you can't or don't want to have dairy. Having tried all of the vegan flavours, I thought the chocolate was actually too cloyingly rich and sweet, but I really liked the others. The vegan ice cream is oat-based, which I prefer over the more common coconut. They also have a rotating selection of soup (with a few meat and a few vegetarian or vegan options available at any given time) in what I assume is a bid to stay relevant during the winter. The ice cream is still the main attraction for me at any time of year but the soup is worth getting if you want to make a meal of it, and it's nice to have something healthy to balance out the ice cream. I have tried the cream of asparagus and carrot ginger. The carrot ginger had shredded carrot in it instead of being a totally smooth puree, which I actually really liked. There is also some summery Americana food like hot dogs and mac and cheese, but I haven't tried any of that so I can't comment. The place has lots of seating inside and outside. It seems like they generally get very busy in the evenings but it's usually quieter during the day. The staff have been friendly in my experience. When I ordered a soup and sundae together, they offered to make the sundae and keep it in the fridge for me until I was ready to eat it, which was nice and thoughtful.

They also have paletas (Mexican popsicles), aguas frescas, flavoured cappuccino, crepes, tortas and more sweet and savoury Mexican snacks. I've had tons of gourmet ice cream, and this was up there with the best of them. I wanted to try one of the less common Mexican flavours but lots sounded good, and they let me sample a few. I sampled the ron con pasas/eggnog with raisins and queso fresco, and both were really good but I decided to get a scoop of queso fresco. I expected it to be like a cheesecake flavour but it was a little different in a way that's hard to put my finger on, so I can only advise you give it a try if you're curious. Besides the flavour being very interesting, the ice cream itself was fantastically creamy. Their homemade waffle cone was also very good. I also got esquites and horchata while I was there. The esquites cup was pretty good but didn't particularly stand out to me. I would advise mixing it a little before eating so you're not getting spoonfuls of mayo off the top with the first few bites. The horchata was great - smooth flavour with lots of cinnamon. The shop is very nicely decorated. There are a few tables and even a swing inside and outside. It looked clean inside. The people were very nice! I would love to come back even though it's across town! I would be interested in trying out their other desserts but it'll be hard to pass up on that ice cream.

The shop has a patio area that is under a pergola, so it is not fully covered. There is an adequate amount of seating available there, but it was a bit chilly out there during my visit. If you are eating at the patio, you still place you order at the window and then when it is ready, they will call your order out over the PA system. After you get your order, you can take it to-go or find a seat on the patio to enjoy your treat and/or food. The shop also has a drive through for those that do not want to leave their vehicles. I ordered a couple of slushies, a lemonade one and an apple one. They were pretty good. I ordered a couple of hot dogs and a vanilla cone for my littles. I got me a sloppy Joe. It took about 8 minutes to get my food. The frozen treats were brought out much earlier. My sloppy joe was OK. It was average, nothing special. But you should not expect much when you order food from an ice cream shop. The hot dogs were not very appealing and my son did not even finish his. I would say they were pretty average as well. The staff there was super friendly. Some of the friendliest I have experienced in a while. I recommend checking this place out to get your frozen treat fix. If you plan on getting food from here, I would just not expect much.

Heartland Homemade is located in an unassuming strip mall (which happens to also have one of my favorite Mexican places in it) so I spotted it and had to make a stop. I chose two small scoops--one blueberry cheesecake and one lemon (maybe it was lemon cream pie?) The very nice young men working said it would be a good combo and they were so right. I truly loved this ice cream and I plan to go back very soon to try more flavors. The ice cream was delicious and creamy, the flavor profiles were on point, and portions and prices were great. I'd post a picture but I forgot. I'll be back. Probably tomorrow. :)

I first discovered Heartland's ice cream truck during a neighborhood yard sale. It was parked near the community pool on a hot afternoon, and I figured I'd grab a quick scoop before moving on. Then I spotted Blueberry Cheesecake and Lemon Cream Cookie on the menu. Decision made. While ordering, we chatted with the gentleman at the window and learned they make many of the key ingredients that go into their ice cream. The blueberry flavor actually includes pieces of homemade cheesecake, and the lemon cream cookie has real pieces mixed right in. After one bite, I immediately regretted not taking a picture because I knew I wanted to tell people about this place. Nearly a year later, we finally visited the storefront. I walked in thinking about exactly one thing: that blueberry and lemon combination I'd been craving ever since. I ordered it again...dug right in...and, somehow, forgot to take pictures again. Fast forward to this week. I discovered they sell a Blueberry Lemon Ice Cream Cake. Are you kidding me? My two favorite flavors, from my favorite ice cream shop, layered into a cake? There was no way I was missing it. I'm trying not to sound dramatic here, but if someone told me I could only have one dessert for the rest of my life...this would honestly be my choice. The blueberry and lemon complement each other perfectly, the cake is incredibly moist, and every bite reminded me why I've been thinking about this place for the past year. If you're looking for another chain ice cream shop, keep driving. If you want homemade ice cream made with care--and flavors you'll still be talking about months later--support this local gem. Just don't be surprised if you forget to take pictures because you're too busy eating.
