Grandpa's Kitchen is a family operated BBQ restaurant located in Downtown Littleton. It was the pork BBQ plate with cole slaw and cabbage for me and the pork BBQ plate with black eyed peas and boiled potatoes for my husband. Unfortunately they were out of lemonade so I ordered a sprite for my drink. It was standard BBQ, nothing special. It was also a little slow but the service was friendly. read more

I don't really know why I stopped at this place, but I was in the area and it was lunch time, and there's not really any other restaurants in this little tiny town. Their menu is small but somehow they still managed to make it confusing. In fact I saw a lot of people walk in, look at the menu, and walk back out. I ordered the deluxe sandwich combo, wasn't a price on the menu, find out afterwards that it was $10 which for what I got I felt was a bit too much. It was a barbecue sandwich, some fries with weird tastings seasoning on, and a small soda. The barbecue sandwich was okay, really nothing good or bad about it, was a very generic tasting barbecue sandwich. I definitely don't see any reason to go back to this place. read more

Hands-down best bbq in the area, according to this eastern NC native. We ordered the pulled pork plate, bbq chicken plate, and bbq sandwiches. Every single thing was delicious - even the black-eyed peas, and staff was all friendly. The stand-out thing was that it was pretty light - not heavy or greasy like a lot of other bbq places. Decided to try this place based on the great reviews. After ordering our food we sat down and waited. And waited some more. We thought we could have at least got our drink while we waited. After seeing all of the 4 and 5 star ratings, I feel hesitant about telling my experience with this restaurant...Upon entering, seeing the tables with no sauce or napkins, and no sign that said seat yourself, my wife and I sat in a booth and waited for our server...no server after approx 10 minutes..Wife went up to order...got the food fairly quick...Now get this...First bite of a fry revealed a hot half and a cold half..then I attempted to pick up my BBQ sandwich...my fingers went through the bottom which was cold and wet...I placed the napkin over the food and ask my wife if she was ready to leave...her response was OH YEAH...Nuff said... read more

Super, super, good NC style BBQ and sides! This about a 30 minute diversion if you are passing through NC on I-95. If you enjoy authentic, local, high quality cuisine; then the distance is well worth it. We had the Pork BBQ Plate with potato salad, green beans, sweet tea, and hush puppies. The pork had a great texture, with just the right balance of vinegar and heat. Certainly deserving of the BBQ awards decorating the walls! The beans were tender, not mushy, and had a nice slightly smoky saltiness. I'm not usually a fan of hush puppies, but these were the exception: dense and soft sweetness without being heavy. The potato salad is the creamier type with mayo and mustard. It had a balance of seasonings without any one overwhelming. The potato salad is definitely a must-try. We were going from Centerville to Weldon today to visit my mother for Mother's Day. I had told her I was bringing lunch! We planned to stop at Ralph's but couldn't get them on the phone! After passing by Grandpa's for a few years we decided to try it! Well! The service and gratitude was great! We were treated like royalty! We got the food in the truck and it smelled amazing! We visited with some locals for a few days and they made it a priority to bring us "into town" to visit Grandpa's Kitchen for lunch. I'm not a big pork eater so I was a little worried when I realized their primary dish is chopped bbq; but as my fellow yelpers have mentioned before me, I was pleasantly surprised to see Turkey BBQ on the menu. I had the Turkey BBQ Sandwich which comes with coleslaw on it (delicious) and the French fries the first time . . yes, the first time. The food was so good that we ended up going back the next day (Sunday). It is definitely crowded after church on Sunday's so I suggested getting there early if you expect to get some of their mouthwatering cakes. If you're in Littleton, NC I say don't miss the opportunity to eat at Grandpa's Kitchen. The owner and her family are shining examples of southern hospitality both in the kitchen and out. read more

This was a fun little BBQ joint. The que was a little dry, a little bland. Not much smoke. It was passable, but nothing spectacular. They offer a western and eastern sauce. The western sauce is pretty deplorable, thick ketchup nonsense. The eastern was fine. The sides were simple - slaw, puppies, greens, black-eyed peas. All good. Nonetheless, this place is worth a stop. Its kitschy and friendly place. There's a pig statue outside with wings, which is certainly worth something. Some of the best bbq I've ever had, and I'm NC-born and bred, so I've eaten my share of it. The place, like the other review says, is small and homely - a true small town joint. The food is amazing and pretty cheap, and their fries are seasoned to perfection. I'm not sure if it's mentioned anywhere else on here, but it's only open on weekends, typically Thursday-Sunday. One warning, though - avoid going at 12:00 on Sundays. I live in the area and trust me, this place is the standard post-church meal, and it's not uncommon to see a line out the door right after church. Also, it's cash-only. They'll take checks, but I'm not sure if it's from locals only or not. But no credit cards. read more

The stars say it all! It is the place to go for BBQ around here. Inexpensive, in a warm small time setting. We took friends in town from Oregon here and they were amazed at the quality of the food. I recommend getting and order of their Turkey stew for starters, before moving on to the pulled pork or shredded chicken BBQ, both excellent choices. Everything is fresh made fresh and it shows.
