Today was my first time here! It's such a cute little cafe in the Lake Gaston area. I ordered the French Toast with 2 meats- bacon and ham with eggs over medium and grits. Everything came out wonderful! We also sat outside which was nice because it was a cooler day. They also sell homemade pies and we got the chocolate chess pie to go. That pie is AMAZING. Firstly, I was struck by the rustic country farmhouse painted butter yellow and sprawling porch decked out with country décor, bistro seating and beautiful flowers in bright pots! Secondly, upon entering I was greeted by some friendly folks that treated us like family. The cozy ambiance embraced us as we took a table by the window. It smelled liked fresh baked goodies in there! We ordered sweet tea and lemonade and while we waited the few short minutes for our food, we enjoying reading the cute signage through the restaurant. Even the necessary room was decorated with cool country knick-knacks. Thirdly, our meals were amazing! Hubby chose the bologna burger, a country favorite, with onions and peppers with a side of beets. I opted for the roast turkey, cranberry and Gouda grilled on sourdough bread with a spicy Dijon mustard, with a side a pineapple cole slaw! Oh man, that's some good eatin' right there! Best slaw I've ever had! Fourthly, the homemade desserts will bring tears to your eyes, they are soooo good! We got three of those HUGE chocolate chip cookies, that are more like a pie! (We took those to a friend's house for later!) Then we shared a vanilla cupcake frosted with strawberry icing and filled with strawberry jam. It was to die for! I'd go back just for the cupcakes!! Seriously, eat here! Fifthly, this comfy, charming restaurant is clean, warm, and welcoming and serves tasty, hearty meals at fair, reasonable prices! It's small but this breakfast (or lunch) spot was so good. We sat inside, there is seating available both inside and outside. It was a coffee and the cowboy skillet for my husband and an apple juice and the 1 biscuit & gravy with 2 eggs (scrambled with cheese) and meat (bacon) for me. I used to really like this place even though it is out of the way, I would bring house guests here. I hadn't been here in some time as the owner gave me some attitude last time we were there. I was driving by and thought I would give it another shot. There was no owner in the kitchen this time, but that may have been a bad thing. The food was not good. My wife and I both had breakfasts. I had scrambled eggs and potatoes, my wife a burrito. My eggs were just ok. The potatoes looked well seasoned, but the flavor and color both came from the dirty grill. To top things off, two bites into my wife's burrito, she found a hair in it. The kids that were working there then could not have been nicer. I felt bad for them. I was hoping for a better experience and was disappointed. We will not be back. read more

Great place to get a filling breakfast. Food was good with large portions. I tried the french toast with fried potatoes, eggs, and bacon while my boyfriend had the cowboy skillet. If you're a coffee fan they have homemade French vanilla creamer which is great. Our server was nice, the prices were very reasonable, and the food got to us quickly. Came to The Kitchen Table for lunch, the atmosphere is very comfortable, it had a family vibe to it. The owners were so nice. Everything on their lunch menu was very affordable and absolutely delicious. They serve breakfast until 11am, after 12 it's Lunch. I decided to get the grilled cheese with tomato! You can add ham or bacon in it, I love how they didn't overwhelm the grilled cheese with an abundance of cheese, it was literally the perfect cheese amount! I know it's something as simple as a grilled cheese but I've had some quite dissatisfying grilled cheeses. We also ordered a BLT, they were so good that we ended up getting two! Sausage and cabbage was very good but the hamburger steak was pitiful, basically a pre-made hamburger patty with gravy on it. Pretty bad, but mashed potatoes and Lima bean were outstanding. The service is very very slow we went there 2-13-16 they lost our order 4 others came in after we did they got food had to ask about our food . This was the 4 th time this has happened to us . Very rude owner...we went up to the counter to request a refill on our drinks since they were busy and waitress hadn't come by the table. Next thing we know the owner comes over to our table and lights into is for "upsetting her staff"....After then waiting over an hour and still not getting our breakfasts, we paid for our drinks, left a tip and left. The owner follows us out and makes a scene on the porch....in front of other customers....who are also nasty to us! To die for breakfast. We got the last two servings of breakfast casserole. Bread, eggs, and sausage cooked, mixed with cheese. Then they put sausage gravy on top of the casserole, to top it off they put a fried egg on top of all of that. The portions were huge we could only eat half. The waitress was super sweet and very attentive. The dinning area is very small and quaint. Kind of like eating at grandmas.
