Do you like Polish food and find that you can't find it that easily in a restaurant here in town? Well, that's because there really aren't many options. Enter Grandpa's Cafe, sitting on the lower level of the Polish Association Hall on North Interstate, just across the same side of the street from St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Note that its hours are very limited (Friday and Sunday) and that it's cash only. It's a modest place where they also sell grocery store type items that parishioners (and anyone) can and do buy. The menu is limited but has the typical Polish staples. The best bet is a combination plate. It costs $10. To that, I added a can of Coke. The plate includes pierogi, sausage, stuffed cabbage, and more. The only problem was that, right after the lunch hour, they had run out of the stuffed cabbage. They substituted another item from the a la carte menu. I'm going to hold at 4 stars because the pierogi I've had just about anywhere in Cleveland have been better. Still, these were good. And so was everything else. Lastly, the service was very friendly. I learned that there is even a Polish Festival next month. It was the first time I've driven up Interstate Avenue since the new train line went in and it was weird to see how much space it takes up. (I've driven across Interstate, though.) I guess that's better than not having the Gold line. At any rate, if you want a plateful of Polish comfort food, give Grandpa's Cafe a try ... within its limited hours.

Best Pierogi's I've ever had. I wasn't even hungry and I ate the whole plate. Very cute little restaurant. Nothing fancy, just great food.

We ordered a rosti for an appetizer which doesn't disappoint, just like how I remember from Zurich. We both ordered dishes with spaetzle, schnitzel and goulash. I opt for a salad with the famous Martin's dressing while my wife gets a French onion soup she claims is the best she's ever had and that's saying something, because we've eaten 3 Michelin Star French onion soup so I try it and now I'm a believer. The chicken broth is so tasty, the onions and cheese are wonderful. It's the simple things really that can make one happy. After conversation and lots of eating, we soon find we've devoured our plates. It's been awhile since I had really good spaetzle so this was a treat. Service was attentive at every step. The dining experience like high end but in a more casual setting. Would go here again. Recommend reservations since seating is limited.

The food is truly outstanding and clearly made with care. Every dish is prepared fresh and made to order, and it shows in both flavor and presentation. My favorite dish, the émincé zurichoise, is rich, creamy, and deeply satisfying. Pure comfort on a plate. What really sets Swiss Hibiscus apart is the heart behind it. This is a place where tradition, quality, and hospitality come together seamlessly. It's rare to find food this authentic, thoughtfully prepared, and consistently excellent, all served in such a welcoming, one of a kind setting. If you're in Portland and looking for something special... whether it's a cozy date night, a celebration, or simply an unforgettable meal, Swiss Hibiscus is a must. I can't recommend it highly enough and will happily return again and again!!!

The waiter came by several times to check in on us and served each course right after we finished the previous course. The seafood was absolutely delicious and everything was seasoned to perfection. I probably wouldn't get the pork again because it was pretty dry but I would definitely come back to try more of their seafood offerings. The lemon curd peppercorn meringue was also delicious and was executed perfectly- such a unique combination.

We were genuinely excited and looking forward to a special evening. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short, especially given the price point and strong Yelp rating. The oxtail croquettes arrived cold, which was surprising for a fried item and set a disappointing tone early. The biggest issue was the hamachi crudo. It had a strong fishy smell with clear hints of ammonia and tasted far from fresh, bordering on spoiled. There was a lingering aftertaste that unfortunately affected everyone's palate for the rest of the meal. We sent it back due to quality concerns. My family and I grew up eating liver and mousse from our own family recipes and from many different culinary traditions. The chicken liver mousse here was creamy in texture but lacked depth and subtle sweetness, and tasted overly mineralized. It was the first chicken liver mousse I have ever not finished. The crab beignets were acceptable, though they could have used more crab. The accompanying sauce was well executed. The miso deviled eggs were tasty, and the anchovy add-on worked nicely. The Parisienne gnocchi, at $40, was not memorable and leaned heavily salty. Steak frites were standard, a dish that is generally hard to fumble. Unfortunately drinks. The shift in service after we sent back the hamachi was obviously uncomfortable and noticeable. The energy dramatically changed. There was little interest in engaging with our feedback. For a meal that totaled over $200, we left disappointed and still hungry. Portland offers many stronger dining options at this price point that deliver both quality and hospitality. Disappointing feels like an understatement. I am genuinely puzzled by the high rating based on the food quality and service we experienced. We will not be returning, nor would I recommend it based on this visit.

We ordered the large Mjesano for four. We should have ordered the regular which still would have had more than enough meat for the four of us. Had we done this, we would have also had room to try the Shopska salad with Bosnian Feta and then the baklava and the Tufahiji for dessert. As it was we had no room for the salad and apple dessert. That was our mistake , not the restaurant's. All the meats were delicious but the Cevapi was something special. The baklava was a great finish. Oh... and the pita was amazing! Think English muffin like pita. So so good. Can't wait to get back to Vancouver to go again.

I got a chicken pirozhki which had pastry that was flaky and rich but not greasy, and a surprisingly hearty filling of chicken, garlic, white sauce, green onion, and tomato. If you'll forgive the somewhat crass comparison, it was like a Kirkland chicken bake, refined with delicate care into a very gourmet dish. The staff were great, a very positive experience. For counter serve, it was very slow (maybe 10 minutes from ordering to eating) but the shop is located in a little market / event venue so there was plenty to explore while we waited. The real stand out, though, is the pelmeni. Available as a dish or to take home frozen in 3 or 5 pound bags, these little beef or chicken dumplings are perfectly spiced and seasoned. I got a 3 pound bag of the beef and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Prepared as they do in the store, with some sour cream, the pelmeni are a sumptuous meal. The tangy sour cream contrasts the savory meat and accents the subtle spices. I wasn't the only one drooling over the dumplings, either - my puppy, on smelling the beef, had to be locked in the other room to keep him from trying to steal the bowl.
