Exchanging vows under the lovely birch tree with Mason jars filled with fairy lights over our heads
Dawn S.

Had our wedding here, Ann's last wedding and it was absolutely beautiful! Small, intimate wedding of a little over 35 guests and Ann and Joe (Inn Keepers) made us feel at home. Ann cooked our rehearsal dinner and the food was better then the catering for the wedding. The breakfast, OMG.....still dreaming about the oatmeal pancakes. The grounds are very well maintained and the farm house itself is just darling. Our parents along with our children stayed with us the whole weekend and we were in the suite in a different building on site and the whole set up was just awesome. So happy that I found these lovely people. We will definitely go back and visit Grand Oaks Inn. Thank you Ann & Joe. :-)

The Inn at Locke House

The Inn at Locke House

(45 reviews)

Locke House is a very large brick farmhouse with an interesting history that starts around the…read more1850's. Dr. Locke, her first owner, was quite a go getter, having 13 children, and needless to say, requiring plenty of bedrooms. The downstairs consists of primarily two parlors, a dining area, two kitchens, and private living quarters for the hosts. I love the lighted case that contains artifacts and the collection of medical paraphernalia belonging to the dear doctor. Charming, quiet, conducive to total relaxation, she has been lovingly and tastefully decorated, preserved and restored, thanks to the Eklund's major efforts, and put on the National Register of Historic Places. You know that is something special! All the B&B's bedrooms are located upstairs. A couple of rooms have their assigned bathrooms down the hall but you have your own key to your bathroom. Some baths have showers, others have claw tubs. Our room, the Bridgeford, had a Queen bed and a gas stove controlled by thermostat for heat. It was quaint while cleverly modern. The rooms are full of antiques, many were original to the family and the house. The stairway is steep and narrow, important to know in case you have physical difficulties that would preclude you from staying there. There is a computer with internet access, free to use, in the upstairs hallway. Eats: Our first day we found a tasty basket of snacks, cookies, cheese and crackers, fruit, sparkling wine, and sweets in our room. A welcome treat after a long drive. And downstairs, you will find coffee, teas, and some home baked goody for that stealthy midnight snack. And then, there are the breakfasts. Oh my. Prepare yourself for the royal treatment. Lani is a miracle worker in the kitchen. The smells coming from the kitchen....wonderful. There are a few choices in the teeny tiny town of Lockeford for restaurants, but a short jaunt to Lodi will solve any gourmet food cravings and dining needs. And there are all the wonderful wineries in the area. Thank you Lani and Richard and Kerri too, for your great hospitality. We loved sitting around the table with you and sharing stories. We felt just like family. It is gratefully remembered beyond words.

We stayed at the Inn on a Thursday night and it was a wonderful experience. The public rooms on the first floor were full of furniture, paintings and memorabilia from the 1860s to the present. In our room was an armoire that was in the barn to store weapons for the Civil War Mokelumme Light Dragoons, a group commanded by Dr. Locke and it was later used in the children's bedroom. You could see the numbers for the weapons and the names of the children inside this piece of furniture. The place was seeped in history, the breakfast was absolutely delicious and Connie and Dean were the perfect hosts. I almost forgot, the cookies that were available all day were delicious.

Perfectly Peaceful…read more My husband and I recently spent several days at GRI. From the first glimpse of this Tuscany-like villa, we knew we were in for an incredible experience. Our suite (one of five) was absolutely stunning. The Innkeeper (the first of three amazing Innkeepers) had the gas fireplace lit, and wonderful instrumental music playing, as she showed us our suite. The food was phenomenal: gourmet breakfasts, 5:00 wine and cheese, and homemade cookies in the evening. My favorite part was the patio with a fire pit overlooking the vineyard. It is difficult to find such peace and serenity anywhere. Aah... We anticipate return visits

From the linens to the décor, super luxurious accommodations set amongst acres of vineyards, each suite with it's own private deck overlooking Tuscany-style views in the heart of Amador wine country. Our host, Linda, made an incredible stay that much more homey. Each morning's breakfast was a feast, seated outside on the covered patio with stunning views. The meals were uber fresh (filling enough that we skipped lunch both days!). Every day around 5 you're treated to wine and cheese. Perfect location to wine taste on property or venture out to the growing number of top rated wineries. Walk amongst the vineyards or take out one the beach cruisers or trikes for a ride around. At night, the fire pits are a nice touch, or just lounge on you private deck for a sunset and a moonset. Looking forward to our return!

David and Karen, the owners, are so sweet and welcoming. The inn is dog friendly, as there is a fully functioning outdoor patio area you can eat meals at. There's also a fire pit that's gorgeous at night, and plenty of bird feeders. If you enjoy birdwatching, this is the place as there are a variety of different feathered visitors that come by this naturally beautiful retreat. If you're looking for a peaceful, romantic, and memorable retreat, Eden Vale Inn is your place! Would definitely recommend.

We stayed in the Stone Pine room, which is one of the smaller rooms, but it was a good enough size for a couple, had a private entrance, and did not share any walls with other rooms. Very peaceful and quiet. Keep in mind there was no cell service in this room (Verizon), due to the more secluded location, but the wifi worked great. The star of the show were the outdoor soaking tubs, which really made the experience so special. The tubs are more like bathtubs than jacuzzis, with temperature adjustments which was perfect for being pregnant, and no yucky chlorine smell after. Amazing! The breakfasts were delicious each day and part of the magic of the bed and breakfast. Breakfast was delivered to the room promptly and the owners were willing to accommodate my dietary restriction. Coffee/tea was available via Keurig in the rooms (Starbucks and Peet's pods) with plenty of cream and sugar options. The only downside to our stay was that we ended up having to lose our *full* pay for an expensive massage package due to a personal medical emergency. I am not docking stars on this rating because I understand they are running a business, we signed the policy, etc. This is just my personal opinion on a unique situation for you as a potential guest to know. Because they contract out for their spa services, just beware they do not have a forgiving policy. I happened to have a horribly timed medical emergency at the time of our massage. The masseuses were already onsite and we felt terrible, but I was physically unable to get the massage and needed to go to the hospital promptly. We informed the owners what was going on every step of the way, and they were kind and understanding in the moment given a bad situation. However, I was disappointed they offered no support with brainstorming a potential reschedule (we were willing to pay more), offer a partial refund, small future discount, etc... nothing. It was honestly just crickets from them and seemed to be unsaid that it was not their problem. This might come down to personal opinion, but it felt cold and dampened our experience. I ended up having to be the one to reach out to the owner via text, and again in person when we returned to the Inn to inquire about a reschedule or any support with the matter. The owner stated there were no slots available, no refunds, and cited having to put strict policies in place due to people in the past missing massages for arriving late, oversleeping, etc. Again, this just felt cold considering the terrible morning scare we had, which clearly was different than just being irresponsible. This kind of humanity in hard situations is what sets certain businesses apart for me in extenuating circumstances, and keeps guests coming back. Other than this, we had a wonderful stay and would choose to revisit the Eden Vale Inn given all the other great and accommodating features of our stay.

Followed by German pancakes, made from apples grown on site, bacon, coffee and OJ. We didn't have breakfast on Sunday as we were meeting a friend, but it sure smelled yummy! They also put out a fresh dessert each evening. The attention to detail, luxury items, comfortable bed and cleanliness make this a safe bet. It's lovely, but not pretentious. This place is a cozy, green oasis in one of the cutest towns in America, and the value is incredible. They let us have the run of the place for the whole weekend while we hosted and set up. The staff made it feel like home -- such kind and lovely people. Breakfast for our wedding party was included. Anything we asked for, they made it happen, and we were able to control every aspect of the event: bar, catering, etc. Another perk I didn't anticipate was a 360 view of the venue from the bridal suite, which allowed me to keep an eye on everything while I was getting ready. The suite is basically an apartment, with a full kitchen we were able to cater our rehearsal dinner out of. Most of our guests were able to stay the weekend and walk to the venue from their hotels (they make it easy with their sister hotel the Victoria Inn and associated rentals). Our wedding was a dream that we're sad to wake up from. If this place calls to you, do not hesitate to book.
