I guess in this instance medium is subjective because it definitely felt stronger than what we both wanted and yes, we told them it was too much pressure. The MT massaging me, was seemingly fixated on my left shoulder pulverized it to the point that it is still sore and uncomfortable as I type this. My partner stated that his MT never even had him turn over and kept them face down the entire massage. When we were done, we managed to get dressed, make it to the front, and pay for that torture session. They offered us a cup of water. No thank you. We paid, tipped the MT's and left. All posterior and anterior muscle groups were attended to. To top things off, for an additional 30 min, my head, neck and scalp was meticulously and soothingly massaged. I enjoy both the professional skill and personality of this MT. With dim lighting and soft music, my mental state relaxes into tranquility which lasts the entire day. I have had multiple excellent experiences here with Lilly and Ayma (sp) and the rate is affordable and value added. There is a shower available if you come in from a workout. The first part of the massage the lady working on my body, I didn't get her name, was talking to somebody outside the room, but that was only for a short period of time. That was a bit distracting, but once that was over, it was fantastic. It was a nice firm massage, which I've gotten to like. If she got a little bit too hard, I would let her know. One funny thing, if I'm getting a good massage, I grunt and groan quite a bit. Apparently, I was grunting and groaning a little bit too much, because she says to me, "you moaning too loud." oops! Once again, they want to protect that image....... The entire massage was on my back. She massage my scalp, my neck, my back, my legs, my arms, she used a nice lotion, and I also got the hot stones. In addition to the hot stones, I also got a hot pack against my neck, and another one on my back for a little bit. That also felt very good. I wish she would've had me flip and do my front for a little bit, but the fact that she did spend an entire hour on my back really did feel good for my back. The price was very reasonable. The hour was only $55, plus a five dollar surcharge for using my credit card. She also got a nice tip on top of that. I will probably stop in one more time before I leave Staten Island. My friend and I chose to do the scalp revival treatment which was 50-min for $68. We both loved it so much! It was very relaxing and much needed. The scalp cleanse and massage felt great, it was perfect. The herbal waterfall soak felt nice and the sounds were so relaxing. We did not want it to end and although it was 50- min it felt longer than that which was nice. It also includes a bit of a shoulder massage which was nice too. They also did a hands and legs massage but it was very brief. The treatment ended with a blow dry with a dyson dryer. Our hair felt so soft and shiny afterwards, and we were very relaxed. All of their products smelled so wondeful, and the quality was amazing. We enjoyed our spa day so much, and we can't wait to come back and try out another treatment.

The massage itself was decent, but incomplete for a one-hour service. When it was time to turn over, she skipped massaging my feet, hands, and the front of my legs entirely. Most of the focus was only on my back. The facial was also very underwhelming for a one-hour facial. There were no extractions, no explanation of the products or process, and overall it felt very basic and rushed. What really left a bad impression was at checkout. Despite already tipping $10 -- which I felt was generous considering the incomplete service -- the therapist actually tried to pressure me for an additional $10 tip. Unfortunately, the experience did not meet my expectations, and I will not be returning. You get what you pay for‍

I wanted to go to a "nicer" spa for a facial on my birthday so my mother found this place with based solely on reviews. The esthetician that did my facial was Nancy who had 20+ years doing this. I like a calm, quite environment but she spoke through the entire facial which was not pleasant as this is the time to relax. Given Nancy's experience, I would hope she knew the difference between pimples and skin colored moles/bumps on the face, however.. she did not. Nancy extracted pimples along with two skin-colored moles which bled during the facial and she did not tell me. I could not tell directly after as my face looked red, but the next day as my skin calmed down, I saw the damage that was done. I immediately called the spa to let them know what happened. There are several managers at AF Bennet. The first I spoke with was Theresa, I sent her a picture since I lived in a different borough so I would have to pay a toll. Then, she said I would have to come in so she can look more closely at it as if she did not believe me. I went in on my birthday which is not something I wanted to do but I wanted her to see what Nancy had done to my face. She took pictures and told me she would send them to the other managers. Theresa made it as if it was no big deal and she scratches marks like that all the time and it will go away. I asked for the money back but instead she said "How about you come in on a day Nancy is not there?" Theresa completely ignored what I wanted and gave me some acne cream and told me to cover it as it was under my glasses. I said I should see a doctor because I was in pain, she said just put this on it with another esthetician and there was no need for a doctor's appointment. I wish I listened to my gut and went to a doctor. A month passed and it was not healing. It was red and still bleeding so I called back and spoke with Theresa again but now her attitude completely changed. She was nasty about it but I insisted I wanted my money back. She would have to get back to me. I kept calling and then got another manager Michele, who had no idea what happened even though Theresa said she would share the pictures she took of my face. Again, I was running after Michele to get a response as she was not the general manager. Tina, general manager was finally made aware of the situation when I got ahold of her. I was disgusted that Theresa never shared the pictures she took of my face with her. Theresa took pictures of my face and just kept them in her phone?? At first, Tina sounded sincere about the situation, I had to explain everything from the beginning as Theresa never told her anything. I told her I've been in pain due to the negligence of Nancy. I was refunded when I told her it was healing and that I will not come back. She said I need more details to know what is going on with your face. So, I sent her the information and she told me it must be an underlying condition. This would have eventually come out anyways. I never had a problem with this area before and I get skin checks every year yet a general manager read a summary from an MD and determined this. I am absolutely appalled by all of the people at this place. If this was their daughter, sister, etc.. I bet their reaction would be different. I am now going for a confoccal imaging procedure to make sure everything is ok and they do not want to pay for this. If I have to take further action after the procedure, I will take them to court. This place does not care about people. I would look elsewhere if you want a facial!!

After the massages were complete, my friend went to the counter to pay for both of us (my friend was also paying for me as a treat). My friend gave $20 tip each to the man processing the payment (the man is the owner) so that he could give to each of our female massagers (altogether $40 tip for both). However, the man stated to my friend that the $20 tip each for the massagers was not enough and stated that $30 each was a good amount. My friend thought that was crazy! That was more or less half the amount of the massage price itself. Also, who suggests what amount of tip the customer should pay? That is so tacky, especially when the tip being paid is already a significant amount. If the owner had not done that then we definitely would have returned for monthly massages but because of that we were turned off and decided we would not come back despite the massages having been really good which is the reason for the 2-star rating. I would have given it a 5-star rating if it wasn't for the tipping scenario.
