I had to travel to Chicago for work and needed somewhere close to Union Station but on a budget. I booked through Hotels.com and the reviews/pictures looked good. Not great, but it's a budget hotel/hostel in the city so I really didn't expect great. Ended up being $230+ for a night with tax and everything. Showed up to the room and spent a total of an hour there before leaving. The walls, door, windows, etc were disgusting. The outlet covers were busted. There was a layer of grime all over everything. There was also a giant window into the next room covered with a layer of wrapping paper, and it didn't even go down all the way. There was a 1/4-1/2" strip at the bottom with a clear view into the next room. The bed had a paper thin blanket and sheets on it. That's it. It smelled like mildew and was just overall gross and felt unsafe, as I didn't even have total privacy in my room. I mean $50 in contact paper would have done a better job than the $3 gift wrap and scotch tape slumlord special they decided on instead.
I contacted the property about this with pictures of the room and was sent back pictures of the same room but about 5-10ft away from each problem area I pointed out. Of course you're not going to see the dirtiness from across the room. I was basically treated as if I was lying and as though it was an okay thing that the GIFT WRAP didn't cover 100% of the window into the next room. Honestly I'd have been okay with it if not for the attitude I received from management and their refusal to budge on a refund. I left within an hour of being there. They did offer to come "fix my concerns" but as I told them I don't think they could accomplish that unless they brought a power washer. Don't fall for the good reviews (unless the room I checked into was the only bad room, or perhaps someone just didn't do their job well that day. Though it'd have to have been a REALLY bad job). Stay literally anywhere else. I was able to find a full hotel room that was clean, private, and safe for only $100 more about a mile away. I wish I could upload the photos but Yelp won't let me. See my Google Review for those. read more
