I wasn't going to share my experience here but for the health and safety of other people I've decided to. I came in to eat for the very first time and the waitress was very nice, and the food came out quickly. I ordered the beef and broccoli and I will be honest I did not like it so I only nibbled at it thankfully, because after picking at it i noticed a dead maggot. I scooped it onto a napkin and when the waitress came over to check on me I showed it to her discreetly and whispered that I'd found it in my food. She immediately snatched it out of my hands, said she had "no idea what it is" and hustled to the back of the restaurant where I heard her screaming I'm assuming at the cooks. I walked up to the front desk shortly after feeling absolutely disgusted and she charged me for the meal I was unable to eat and continued acting like nothing happened. I could have asked her not to charge me but I was so freaked out and revolted I didn't even think about it. I was trying to be understanding but after she snatched the literal dead maggot from me and gaslit me I wonder how many other experiences have been like mine. read more

Wanted to try this Chinese restaurant that is 15 minutes from my home. We decided to get take out for lunch. The service was exceptional. The lady who took my order was very friendly and encouraging. When she heard it was my first time there she was very confident that we would come back. We ordered the crab Rangoon's for appetizer, a pint of hot and sour soup, Sesame chicken lunch plate, and General Tsu's Chicken Lunch plate. This used to be my favorite Chinese restaurant in Anderson. They must have new ownership because I will NOT be returning. We called ahead (a week in advance) to reserve a table for 28. We came in expecting that they would put the "group rate" tip on there. The waitresses acted as though we were inconveniencing them by being there. They rushed us through taking our orders but listened when we made a point of special requests (dietary restrictions, allergies, etc). When the food arrived, it was hot and they got our orders correct, commendable for such a large party. I do not know what happened, if they changed chef's or ownership or both but the food was horrible. My husband didn't receive any rice with his, my chicken was hard and my brother in law's shrimp tasted like a sponge soaked in aftershave. When we got our individual tickets, the assumed tip was HUGE. I'm sad it's gone so down hill. read more

Grand China is seriously the sweetest place. It's never crowded inside, and their attentiveness to their customers is unmatched. They have the cutest dishes, large quantities of food, and outstanding food quality. This place is a gem, and the pride the staff takes in their restaurant is so nice. Was so happy to try out this restaurant that seemed to be closed for lunch for the last year or so. Nice, bright and clean inside. Servers very friendly. Started off with their silky Wonton Soup and side of wonton crackers. Lunch comes with either soup or eggroll, so I ordered a spring roll on the side. For my entree, I tried the Orange Peel Beef with a steamed rice (the rice is typically double this amount, but I asked for just a bit). It came with broccoli, peppers and onions. The Orange Peel Beef was good, but it was in a very "liquidy" sauce (versus sticking to the beef) and made the fried beef not so crunch anymore. But still very tasty. I am eager to try the Pecan Shrimp that was highly suggested by my server. We will be back! read more

This is honestly one of those reviews you hate to write in a lot of ways. I am a long time (2+ decades) customer of Grand China. I am a big customer...I have 6 people in my immediate family. Beyond that my larger family has been a good customer for 2+ decades and regularly has frequented this restaurant. The original owner and founder of this establishment was an incredibly nice person and tried to run his business the right way. My wife taught his daughter....a very good family. I have continued to frequent this restaurant since his retirement years ago. It got to the point where they knew my name and/or my brothers name would know our name when one of us called in the order for our respective families. When I go I am typically spending 100+ dollars due to the size of our order and my order is almost always exactly the same. I moved from Anderson to the Atlanta area but monthly am in Anderson and try to get food to go for my family. It has been a treat my kids have looked forward to. THAT SAID, the current owner has lost my business. Labor Day weekend, I order $91 of food. Again my same order...cantonese chicken (3), eggrolls (10), beef skewers (3) and a pint of homemade duck sauce. We stopped to grab the food as we headed home to the Atlanta area. Unfortunately upon arriving home we discovered we did not get the cantonese chicken. No big deal, it happens right? I called them to let them know and get my money back for that portion of my order. On this call the lady who answered said I had to bring the food back and they would exchange it. I explained that I live in the Atlanta area and was not going to drive 1hr + back to the store simply to exchange chicken and would just like my money back. I was basically told that I was trying to rip them off and they couldn't do it, that I had to come back. So I called my mother who lives in Anderson and she was kind enough to drive over there to see if they would give her my money back. No...they wouldn't. Again the same accusations. I called again and was told I could speak to the manger on Monday (Labor Day)...so I did (Annie I think was her name). Annie explained it was the owners policy that they basically needed a "dead body" to refund/exchange. I don't know what this means exactly other than perhaps they needed the chicken I didn't eat? I explained who I was, the whole situation and she asked me to hold for about 15 seconds while she "explained" to the owner. She came back on the line to tell me sorry but that was the owners policy. I am sorry...$50.00 won't break me, but I am truly shocked they did not make this right and instead insisted that I would have to drive back to Anderson from Atlanta to exchange my order. I was truly ticked by the accusations that I was somehow trying to steal from them. Insulting. No Customer Service, especially to a loyal and good customer. I am sorry but there are other options. If this is how they conduct business, I don't expect them to last under this "new" ownership. read more

Let me say that this is some of the best Chinese food in the upstate. The outside may not look like much, but this is a family owned and ran restaurant. My mom loves this place and chose it for her birthday lunch. She ordered the lunch portion of shrimp fried rice with two egg rolls, and a cup of wonton soup. I ordered the general Tso's with two spring rolls and a cup of hot and sour soup. The homemade hot mustard is amazing . Just spot on. The portions at this restaurant are generous. Very generous. Stopped by since close to the hotel. Ordered the combo sweet and sour chicken. It was really good, chicken was moist and perfect in size. The hot and sour soup was really good also and the portions were big. The rice and the egg roll were just eh nothing really to speak of but came with the meal. My family and I needed quick dinner and we were in the mood for Chinese. They had Chinese but not a huge variety. Everything we seemed to ask for the woman said no. Anyways, the sesame chicken was so sweet. Not only was it sweet but the sauce was like pale skin color, not the normal brown like from lost Chinese restaurants and it was also Watery so it didn't stay coated on the chicken like I wanted. The white rice was good and the crab Rangoon was good but it wasn't sweet or crabby like I would have wanted to expected. The fried rice was very dry which no veggies. So Of course I was slightly dissatisfied with my order. However I will probably try something different just to see if it was maybe just that night. read more

Very, very Good! The food is the best in Anderson, SC. My wife usually liked to go to chinese buffets to get value for our money, but we have really gotten burned out by the flavorless pap they serve. As well as just getting stupid bloated... So we started going to full service Chinese restaurants around the area and have tried ALL of them. Now we always go to Grand China Restaurant on Clemson Blvd because it's the best! Will never eat here again. After many years of eating here and purchasing meals at the price listed on the menu, the business added an additional fee for vegetable rice versus pork fried rice - when we called for an explanation the young man that answered said it has been this way since 2014 and when I explained that we have ate there many times in 2020 and NEVER been charged extra for vegetarian entrees he argued - when I asked to speak with someone above him he said there was no one above him and became silent when I asked for further explanation of the up charge and he hung up. It is a shame that the customer service is what will keep us from this local place that we have tried to support throughout the pandemic. Our money will go to support HONEST companies. read more

Just went to Grand China before Christmas. It is still the best Chinese restaurant in town. I would take my friends there without a problem. They make the food fresh and are very friendly. My mom and I have eaten here numerous times and always had good food and good service until today. We ordered sweet and sour shrimp and chicken. Everything was done except the shrimp. We complained and they did nothing. No apologies or anything. The owner or manager didn't care. She didn't or wouldn't do anything. I'm done with this place after eating there for over ten years. Well, we went back to this restaurant a few nights ago and they won us over this time. The service was excellent (as it was last time) as was the food. The problem we had last time was when my wife ordered a chicken dish without the meat (she wanted the veggie/sauce combination but she is vegetarian, so not the chicken), the entree came out without the meat but with the same amount of veggies it would have had if the meat had come with it. This made for a smaller entree. I contend that they should have thrown in a few extra veggies to make up for the left out meat...I think that is a reasonable expectation. Tonight, they did it. They loaded up the entree with veggies when she ordered it without meat. It made up for the missing meat and made us feel like we were still getting our money's worth. Oh how I miss you Grand China! There are not many things I miss about SC (aside from my family), but you are at the top of the list of redeeming things about that state. Oh, those dinners in college when a car load of Furman students would make the drive to Anderson with the sole purpose of stuffing our faces with the best chinese food in the tri-state area. Despite never usually drinking sweet tea, we would all down pitcher after pitcher of that cold concoction. The crab rangoon is the best I've ever had... hands down, no place in Chicago has matched it. The orange chicken is sweet and spicy, not that mushy unrecognizable pile of stuff you normally get. I've tried many dishes on the menu, but for the life of my all that I can think about right now is the orange chicken (as I salivate). They have the friendliest staff around- which I quite an accomplishment in notoriously friendly South Carolina. This is a quality chinese restaurant- don't go here if you want a buffet of cold, fried chicken substitute. Stopped by for lunch today and ordered the Sesame chicken, fried rice, and egg drop soup. The soup was great and service was as well. When the meal came shortly after finishing my soup I was not impressed. There was no fried rice, just steamed brown rice, the only sesame in the chicken were the seeds on top.
