There was nothing good about any of my food. Even the sweet tea was lacking. The egg drop soup was watery and tasted as if it had dish water in it. The General Tso's was sweet and the pork fried rice had no pork bits in it. The chicken lo mein was beyond salty and the fried dumplings shared the same problem. Having lived in Hawaii, I am picky about asian cuisine. To be honest, I usually only eat Chinese food in places with large Chinese populations (DC, Honolulu, Boston) or if I'm really hungry, I'll choke down some beef broccoli or kung pao chicken. I liked Rainbow Garden. We ordered steamed mixed vegetables ($5.95), General Tso's Chicken combo plate ($6.75), hot & spicy chicken (7.95), chicken with broccoli, rice, egg rolls and fried Chinese donuts. (The donuts are complimentary with orders of $25.00+ and were surprisingly very yummy). We called in the order then picked it up. The person at the counter was very nice and our food was boxed quickly. I asked for red chili sauce and she kindly gave me red chili oil. Different from the sauce but just as good, if not better. *If you want red chili oil, ask! It is refrigerated. The food was good. The combo plate food came in a plastic container with a snap-on lid. Reusable! =) I really appreciated that. The chicken with broccoli was my favorite as was the General Tso's chicken. The hot & spicy chicken was so-so. After 6 days, it is still sitting in the fridge. If you like onions and peppers, you might enjoy it. I normally do, but just something about this dish, perhaps the sauce or maybe the proportion of peppers, onions and meat ... Idk ,,, just really didn't leave me clamoring to gluttony. The people were very nice. And I appreciated the nice extras ... complimentary donuts, the red chili oil, the plastic containers ... A step above the standard shopping center Chinese with very fresh food and friendly service. Maybe takes a bit longer than you think, but most places do. Very much cooked to order so everything tastes fresh and portions are large, so it ends up being a good value for leftovers. The healthy steamed options are particularly good. Shrimp egg rolls are yummy! Bojangles is across the street if you need faster food. A bit of patience and grace for this small, family run business will be rewarded in good food for a fair price. read more

The food is always good, this is definitely my go to Chinese restaurant, but they take forever. I'm talking they say "30 minutes", I wait 45 because I know they take forever, and when I get there they STILL say it'll be a few minutes. I only ordered a small beef and broccoli and 2 spring rolls. The best feature of this Chinese takeout is no MSG, but I I've stayed away from the typical signature chinese dishes. Good if you order healthy things like Broccoli beef, chow mein and Chop Suey. I moved out of that area, 3 years ago and haven't been back, but I remembered enough to give them good rating once I joined Yelp. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME PHONING AN ORDER IN! The food is OK, and affordable. People go to Chinese takeout restaurants for decent, quick, convenient food. My wife called in an order, and was told that it would be ready in 20-25 minutes. I arrived to pick it up 25 minutes later. She repeated the order to me and asked for the payment. THEN she told the cook to START MY ORDER! Having already paid, I was hostage for the next 25 minutes, while the food was prepared. (No, we have never called in an order that we did not pick up). After I politely complained, she replied "we are busy", and walked away. A man awaiting his order, said that the same thing had been done to him twice. read more

We have eaten in Chinese restaurants from NY to San Francisco and the Rainbow Garden is as good as any of the best Chinese Restaurants we have eaten in. They will prepare your order to special specifications if you need. You only have to ask. The prices are very good and the proportions and very generous. One meal is usually enough for 2.
