Originally my friend wanted to go to Times Sqaure to spend NYE there but I did the whole yellow legal pad on the pros and cons about spending the whole day and it wasn't that great as it seems. Well after a couple of hours debating rather I should go or not, she found this plaza from her last visit and the crowd wasn't too crazy as Times Square. Y'all please take a seat. Seriously, we could sit in the yard or stand and not get trampled on. Lots of space. This place was a walking distance from the Air bnb, about a fifteen minute walk give or take, nothing too crazy to get here. Now the Grand Army statue or building was under constructions, but we still got a nice view of the fireworks in front of it and the people around us were nice and not rowdy. Just great old Brooklyn vibes, can't wait to come here again and explore more of Brooklyn.

That monument immediately came to mind when Jamie W. and I saw the Soldiers' and Sailors' Arch for the first time as we were walking out of Prospect Park. That's because both arches are crowned by a vibrantly posed chariot and a team of horses. This one's not as big, but it has the requisite majesty (photo: https://bit.ly/3ZMr8o2). It stands above eight streets that converge upon two concentric ring roads. What's more, it's conveniently close to both the Brooklyn Museum (review: http://bit.ly/2TF1j9f) and the Brooklyn Botanical Garden (review: https://bit.ly/3U7wmZ8). Grand Army Plaza is a big gateway for Brooklyn. It's at Prospect Park's main north entrance. There's not much to do in the actual plaza. It has stuff to look at. The arch is the highlight of this. The first thing you will notice will be the arch. It's massive. This is bigger than the one in Washington Square. It's truly something to behold. The plaza itself also has some artwork to see like some statues. There's many statues of famous civil war figures who fought for the Union. It has several nearby attractions. It's right by the library. There's also the Brooklyn Museum.
This is a neat place, but I agree with some other reviewers that I wouldn't take a special trip. There is an impressive, large arch that memorializes the union army. The arch itself is separated from the general public by barriers because the park service is concerned about falling debris and disrepair. There is also a fountain, a JFK memorial, and it's close to the Brooklyn library, which is worth a look. Best to see this while walking or exploring the neighborhood. Over 2 miles from DUMBO and the waterfront.
I got a little lost when just walking about in Brooklyn and saw this huge traffic circle up ahead and decided to go there and check it out. Memorial statues of Civil War generals and other notable people, huge plaza to walk around, take photos and I believe I saw a sign for a farmer's market that is held here. This is located at Prospect Park and it's nice to walk around and take a break from exploring the city and just enjoy the view and some history. The big glass apartment looking building next to the plaza is the Grand Army Plaza Condos/Apartments on sale between $3M - $5M in case browsing turns into buying. Anyways, glad we stopped by for a quick history lesson and view of a historic Brooklyn landmark.
As a kid during the summer, I called this place my own. My mom used to take us here during the week to keep us busy. No video games, just the park. Imagine that! The first thing you notice is the intricate architectural work of the arch. Its just so beautiful. We would drive on Eastern Parkway and see rows and rows of Brownstones. My grandmother would always say this was once the most beautiful neighborhood. During the 70s, it was really bad here. Drug deals and crimes at night made this place scary. Now? I take my family here at Ample Hills Creamery and to the Brooklyn Museum. Grand Army Plaza gives Brooklyn a very European feel. It's here for everyone to enjoy. Find parking in the area and walk to the Grand Army Plaza. Brooklyn's own Grand Army Plaza is for everyone to enjoy.
Brooklyn hones an outdoor jewel and landmark, Grand Army Plaza. Not only does it serves as a park but also an oval turnaround for busy traffic intersecting Flatbush Avenue, Vanderbilt Avenue, Union Street, Prospect Park West, and Eastern Parkway. Adjacent within mere distance is Brooklyn Public Library, Central Branch. To add more to this running list the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Botanical Garden, and Prospect Park Zoo are within proximity distance of Grand Army Plaza. Grand Army Plaza marks the entrance to Prospect Park. The arch appears grandeur than Manhattan's Washington Square Park with ornate reliefs, but nothing as beautiful with a visitor's observation deck as Paris, France's Arc de Triomphe. Working water fountains are in place for an oasis. A John F. Kennedy memorial inhabits this space. I'll travel far and wide for worthy sites!!
SO BEAUTIFUL!!! Love this area. It's peaceful and clean!. A lot of people around working out, jogging, etc... great please to take your kids, pets or just take a nice troll with beautiful surroundings.

Built to resemble the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, Grand Army Plaza is part of the national treasure and sits spectacularly at the intersection of Flatbush Avenue and Eastern Parkway. This monument has never been defaced, and still looks fabulous after all these years.
Grand Army Plaza is such a cool place to Visit on the weekends in Brooklyn and I'll tell you why. Not only is it right across the street from Prospect Park, and the Brooklyn Library, but it is also 5-10min walking distances from the Brooklyn Museum and Botanical Garden. I like to ride a citiBike through Grand Army Plaza during the summer when the water fountain is actually turned on. Beware that sometimes the water in the fountain is turned off and a dry water fountain is never captivating. Nonetheless, rest assured that you will be amazed my the architecture surrounding Grand Army Plaza. The intricate details to the buildings in Brooklyn is what makes this borough a true gem.

Located right by the Park Slope and Prospect Heights area of Brooklyn. It was originally named Prospect Park Plaza, but was later changed in1926. It is located right by the weekly Saturday green market, the Brooklyn Public library, Botanical Garden, zoo and museum. You will catch many tourists in the summer snapping pictures in front of Brooklyn's answer to the Arc de Triomphe p.s. No idea why Yelp has it mapped out in Manhattan. But if you are looking to find it, just Google map "Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn,NY 11238"
This is an awesome architectural structure that Americans and tourists love about New York. You almost feel llike you are in Paris!
In two weeks my boyfriend and I are moving to DUMBO. Though we're both very excited, my apartment on Grand Army Plaza has been very near and dear to me. We've been through a lot. Good and bad. Ups and downs. I will forever love this part of Brooklyn. Here's why... You remind me of when I lived in Paris. Walks down the Champs-Élysées to the Arc de Triomphe nightly. I feel like I'm back in Europe when the round about is illuminated by the arc's lights. The Brooklyn Library. Right across the street from my apartment. I feel so scholarly walking up those monumental steps. Not so much after I get inside. Prospect Park. I'll miss my summer evening picnics here. Mount Prospect Park. Off lease doggy fun before 9am. Toby loves to run here. The Botanical Gardens. Gorgeous. So many memories and beautiful sights there. Brooklyn Museum. No explanation needed. I will miss you ::tear:: and we'll be back to visit.
The original name was prospect park Plaza and in 1926 was renamed grand army Plaza for the 60th anniversary of the fraternal group of former union soldiers. Called the army of the republic. It was designed to shield the noise from the city away from the park. I would've given 4 stars because of the dangerous and confusing adjoining roadway I have tried to navigate on foot and in a vehicle. But today 4/13/26 hizzoner the mayor has announced a redesign of this space for more public space .looking forward to this landmark redesign. read more

I like this plaza. It is grand. It is a plaza. It is army-related? It looks so glorious juxtaposed next to a bright cerulean sky and white puffy clouds. It's also a fabulous spot to sit and eat lunch with a friend. It's also a good destination to meet your date for a picnic in the park. You can't really miss it. And if you do, then you're just dumb. read more
Another reason to love Brooklyn. My home. Grand Army Plaza is one of the monuments that represents Brooklyn. Beautiful to look at during the day, but better at night when the lights come on. Good place to take pictures. There are so many things to do around Grand Army Plaza besides looking at the monument. All within a very short distance. You can go walk, jog, or bike through Prospect Park. You can enjoy the sea lion show at Prospect Park Zoo. Walk through and admire the beauty of the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. Tour around the Brooklyn Museum. Go read a book at the fifth biggest library in the United States, the Brooklyn Library. I would say this is Brooklyn's version of Central Park. You can certainly spend your entire day around Grand Army Plaza. Make a day out if it. read more

Have you ever heard of the Truimphe de Arc in Paris, France. Well, this is the Brooklyn Version Called Grand Army Plaza. its beautiful architect statue dedicated to soldiers who fought the American Revolution independence from the British (English) for Long Island which is an island located on the island of Brooklyn and share with Queens county, Nassau County, Suffolk county. This statue falls under Flatbush avenue with major intersections that merged with Eastern Parkway, Prospect Park West, Vanderbilt Avenue, Union street. The Biggest Brooklyn Public Library in the borough is located at the Flatbush Avenue intersection as well and The Prospect Park zoo and the Brooklyn botanical garden is located on the Flatbush Avenue side closer To Empire Blvd intersection and The Brooklyn Museum located on Eastern Parkway between Flatbush Avenue & Washington Avenue . It's held the Annual West Indian day parade route as well , and The Annual New Year Eve Fireworks ( Prospect Park) - both events gets crowded with lot of people . If you ever in Brooklyn and you need some nice sights to see I'll definitely recommend coming to visit !!!!!! Very Convenient by the MTA transportation: Subway: 2,3-Trains. Grand Army Plaza Train Station. (late night the 4-Train stops here , The 3-Train doesn't run at late nights, the 4 train runs over the New lots Avenue line ). B,Q-Trains. Seven Avenue Train station. Buses: B41,B69,B67 P.S. This place is similar to The Washington Square Park in Manhattan , Near The "NYU-New York University campus" read more

While Grand Army Plaza won't keep you entertained for hours [or even ONE hour possibly] it is a top spot to stop during your Brooklyn tour. AND, while the plaza itself is a quick stop, it's just one of MANY stops in the area, including: The Brooklyn Public Central Library, Prospect Park, Brooklyn Botanic Gardens and even the Brooklyn Zoo! PLUS, the arch at Grand Army Plaza is simply stunning. I've never been to Paris [YET!], but as Virginia Y. points out, it's "almost an exact copy of the Arc de Triomphe". Definitely check out this plaza, enjoy the lovely fountain, park benches and surrounding sites. This is a MUST-SEE stop in Brooklyn and I can guarantee you'll be disappointed if you don't stop here, and later realize what you missed! read more

This memorial to Union soldiers who fought in the Civil War is a major Brooklyn landmark and is as majestic as any arch you would find in Europe. It also is a grand entrance to Prospect Park. Grand Army Plaza is also within walking distance of the Public Library, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. It is a great starting point for a day tour of this area. read more
