It's a long way up and I didn't go up. The pay is $12 or $15 to enter. It was very cute how they have all flags on each tier. Also at Hudson Yards they have the great big Teddy Bear, giant Soccer Ball. They had the giant Screen TV to watch the Soccer Match. There is also The SHED Museum. This Non-Profit Art Center. There is a lot to do down here. We had a great time my sis and I.

The building structure was really cool to look at. I didn't pay extra to walk up the stairs because I don't think my kids could do it lol.

Nice to see at night ! Located in Hudson Yard for many to come take pictures in front of! You do have the option to tour

This review is not based on the paid experience itself but the exterior view of the Vessel. This architectural copper-shaded structure is striking, futuristic and looks great both upclose and from a distance. Up really close, the reflection reminds me of the Bean in Chicago but with more angular layers. If you are in the area, not to be missed.

Such a cool landmark/ park, this place is a must see if your checking out the high line and or Hudson yards.

The Vessel has become a tourist attraction in Midtown Manhattan. The Vessel stands about 150 feet above NYC and gives fantastic views of the Big Apple. The structure is located at the center of the Hudson Yards Public Square. It is decorated and shines brightly, during the Christmas holidays. The structure is a centerpiece of the Hudson Yards Public Square and sells tickets to explore 154 flights of stairs, 2,500 steps, 80 landings, and that view. According to the website free tickets are available for NYC residents every Thursday. Tickets are available to New Yorkers online only, will require proof of residency using photo ID, and based on availability. I didn't know free tickets are available. I would definitely love to explore the free ticket option, actually you can get up to four free tickets. I'm definitely going back. Stay tuned.

Even though The Vessel was closed and the tickets would've only cost $10 , the night experience was nothing short of amazing. The lights bouncing of the building, World Cup Flags representing the teams was nice as well

Just realized that I can ACTUALLY REVIEW THE VESSEL. Guys, I have been trying to get up on this thing for YEARS, but when it first opened it was SWAMPED and then it kept closing. I had given up and shoved it from my mind, but learned a couple of weeks ago that it's been open for some time! So me and family, all of us who had never been up here, went on up on Christmas Eve. THE GOOD: It's actually a pretty magical experience, with the festive decor of the mall on one side, the dazzling trees filled with lights below on the other side, and of course, great views of the city I love. It wasn't crowded at all and was actually quite peaceful. I only encountered one girl who wanted Instagram pics, taking off her coat and posing in a little sweater and skirt while someone bent over backwards to take her photos and all I could think was BRRR COULDN'T BE ME. THE BAD: We paid about $17 to go up. I think they raised the price from its initial beginnings, which wouldn't be SO bad EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT HALF OF IT IS BLOCKED OFF (thankfully, this did not affect the current crowd level). This was absolutely the worst gripe about it. They don't tell you anywhere that you can only access half the Vessel. YES, you can get to pretty much the top, but I don't see the point in blocking off half the structure unless you're going to cut the price in half too. Also, I would have loved to bring a cup of hot chocolate to enjoy up there, in the spirit of the season, but no drinks allowed unless it's clear in a PLASTIC container. Fine, I get them wanting to keep the structure as clean as possible and it was definitely pleasant up there. Also, the elevator that takes you up/down was out of sorts during our visit? Like, the operator kept saying it would take 30 minutes for the elevator to come up. My sister wanted to take it because she thought it would be a visually cool trip down as it looks like a little glass capsule. We did NOT wait the half hour for it come up, but it would have been cool to experience. I would LOVE to come back if they open the entire structure because the experience can be more than what it was! This would be a lovely thing to visit and hang out on in warmer weather (as long as they mitigated crowd level with timed tickets), just PLEASE open the entire thing!

A very interesting architectural structure to say the least. Very cool even at night. Not sure what the purpose of this vessel was made for but when we first came to see it back in 2022, it was raining and they would not allow us to go in. Of course, it's for a fee. We came back after several years with my family. We came to check it out as it was good weather to enter. Taking the elevator up takes too long and only up to 5 people at a time can go inside. It was faster walking up the stairs. Many of the paths going up were blocked off by wire fence . We couldn't even go to the very top or to see the water view as that was blocked off. There must have been a safety measure put in place or someone tried something stupid on here as now, no one can go to the top floor for the beautiful front Hudson water view. Below the front of the vessel was also a big screen TV to watch the soccer game with many by standers watching on lounging chairs. Maybe, that is why it was blocked off? For a touristy thing to do, this was good for a quick picture and good workout but not sure it would be worth the $15 price +$2 processing fee + tax to go up inside this bee like structure. Taking a picture outside was best and free. That's only my opinion. Hahaha [113R,2025]

Seriously? I get it has history. So does New York. Yet, with so much money sunk into what is actually a pretty amazing experience, it is sad that visiting here feels unfinshed. Stairs closed because not all areas have safety provisions. The top closed because it cannot be retrofitted? There has to be a better way. With that said, I would still consider it worth visiting. You can get a timed ticket, but the flexible one isn't that much of a premium.

As we walked around Hudson Yards, we came up to The Vessel. This is a beautiful piece of architecture and man-made attraction that has recently been added to the list of places to go in the New York City area. The elaborate honeycomb-like structure rises 150 feet and consists of 154 flights of stairs, 2,500 steps, and 80 landings for visitors to climb. It opened to the public on March 15, 2019. In January 2021, following three suicides at Vessel, it was closed to the public indefinitely. Vessel reopened in May 2021, then indefinitely closed again after another suicide two months later. It reopened in October 2024 following the installation of more safety barriers. Tickets are around $10-12 depending on the time you decide to go and they can be combined with nearby attractions like the Edge. To me, it was just a beautiful piece of art that is a favorite of photographers all around.

    Ricardo B.

We didn't know the place had opened up again to visitors but kind of glad of that. The views from the top must be nice but not as nice as from the observation deck on The Edge, the building right next to it.

    Carli O.

Easy to purchase tickets. Great views. Able to walk at own pace without feeling rushed. A lot of netting to protect from any potential accidents the higher you go up. Many photo opportunities. Architecturally beautiful structure

"Don't know much about history Don't know much biology…read moreDon't know much about a science book Don't know much about the French I took" (Sam Cooke) I guess you can call me a history nerd. After all, I did major in history and rarely walk past a plaque or memorial or marker that I don't stop to read and more than likely Yelp. So when we were walking out to the street from Grand Central Station's Park Avenue/East 42nd Street entry and saw a wall plaque with the portrait of a familiar woman, I just had to stop and check it out. The portrait was of Jackie Kennedy Onassis. Those of my generation will always remember the traumatic and terribly sad photographs of her from Dallas on November 22, 1963 with her pink pill box hat and her blood splattered pink dress. Twelve years after JFK's assassination the former First lady was engaged in a high stakes 1975 battle to save one of her hometown's iconic landmarks. At issue was a plan to take the wrecking ball to New York City's Grand Station Terminal and demolish it, just as Penn Station has been demolished and rebuilt in 1964. She became outraged when she learned of the plan and led a coalition of New Yorkers and the the Municipal Art Society to stop it. She was the star of a famous press conference from Grand Central and declared "If we don't care about our past we can't have very much hope for our future, we've all heard that it's too late, or that it has to happen, that it's inevitable. But I don't think that's true. Because I think if there is a great effort, even if it's the eleventh hour, then you can succeed and I know that's what we'll do." She also wrote an eloquent letter to NYC 's Mayor Beame and asked him "...is it not cruel to let our city die by degrees, stripped of all her proud moments, until there is nothing left of all her history and beauty to inspire our children? If they are not inspired by the past of our city, where will they find the strength to fight for her future? Americans care about their past, but for short term gain they ignore it and tear down everything that matters..." The plaque was dedicated on June 24, 2014 to mark renovations to the station's main entrance. The renovations honor her legacy with photographs, a video display, and the plaque. The entry itself was renamed "The Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Foyer".

It's such a different experience now. 20 years ago, I remember just walking into the lobby, buying a ticket, and heading up to the observation deck. But today? You enter in a different spot, and it's a whole experience. There's a "museum" now and you can spend more time here than just taking in the views from the 86th floor. So why go? It was the world's tallest building when it was completed in 1931 and until the North Tower of the World Trade Center was completed in 1970. (Sad aside: It became NYC's tallest building again after 9/11 until was surpassed by One World Trade Center in 2012.) It features gorgeous art deco architecture and design. It's a cultural icon (one of my favorite parts of the museum experience was a room where you can see dozens of film clips which feature the Empire State Building). The new experience includes exhibits that explain the history, design, and construction of the building. What I learned about its construction was particularly interesting! The construction of the building involved more than 3,500 workers, many of who were Irish and Italian immigrants, and led to an unknown number of deaths of workers (official reports say 5, newspapers at the time reported higher numbers). While I felt this museum addition really added to the experience of visiting the Empire State Building, it has also certainly made visiting the building more expensive. So let's get down to the brass tacks. The base ticket (which gets you entry into everything up to the 86th floor) is $44 for adults, $42 for seniors, and $38 for children (plus a $5 booking charge for each transaction). If you want to visit the 102nd floor for that additional observation deck, it's $79 for adults, $77 for seniors, and $73 for children (plus the booking charge). Then there are ways to spend even more money: a Starbucks Reserve Sunrise ticket ($135 per person); an Express Pass (starting at $85/120 per person); a Premium Experience ($175 per person); and All-Access Tour ($500 per person)... I'm generally not into these expensive view experiences that have popped up all over NYC. But the Empire State Building is special. It's an icon and a view. But I still wasn't willing to pay $80 to visit, so we stuck with the base ticket that gets you access only to the 86th floor observatory. The 86th Floor Observatory contains an enclosed viewing gallery and open-air outdoor viewing area. It's the classic observatory you've seen in movies. And it was certainly enough for me - the museum and the 86th floor observatory! Don't miss/rush through the original main lobby as you leave the experience. Or - if you're not willing to pay for the experience to see the view - stop in at the lobby on its own - it's open to the public (follow the signs for the Starbucks Reserve which is entered through this lobby). The lobby is gorgeous - marble, terrazzo, a scale model of the building... But the highlight is that aluminum relief of the skyscraper as it was originally built (without the antenna). It's incredible. It's an icon for a reason, and it was fun to visit and to see it again after so many years. They've certainly made it more of an experience than it used to be (although now, you can't just pop by for the view on a pretty day, since it's prohibitively expensive for a quick visit), but I had a really good time.
