There is a large Cineworld cinema, Pizza Hut, Nandos, a casino, Virgin Active health club, bars, bingo, bowling alley and a kiddies soft play center. I actually quite like Fountain Park because it is right on my doorstep and it has everything I need for an evening on entertainment. There is a large car park so you can drive here and if you use the cinema or other businesses your car park ticket is validated making the parking free. Free parking in Edinburgh is a bonus! You can go for something to eat and know what to expect in the chain restaurants before heading off to the cinema/bowling alley/casino. It's perhaps not as large as some of the out of town complexes you see in the likes of Glasgow, but it does have everything you need and something for everyone.

Anyway, I feel that this place is largely for the students living around this area as it has a massive Cineworld, a Pizza Hut, a Nando's and a Tenpin bowling alley among its facilities available. The place felt quite empty and depressing the last time I was in and there seemed to be a lot of empty space between the bowling alley and the cinema, with the main concourse functioning as an extended hallway to get between the two. There is an underground car park which is free for the first four hours but if you stay any longer than that, then you will have to pay money for every extra hour you stay there. I did like the bowling alley, and the Pizza Hut was pretty decent when we went to it so I suppose this place serves its purpose with one of the only casual bowling alleys in the Edinburgh area. I hope I will enjoy Cineworld as it seems significantly cheaper than Odeon and Vue.

As a result, I tend to look at smaller, less appreciated cinemas with a sense of fondness, cinema's like the Cameo in Tolcross. Ok, it doesn't look like much but the 50s style 'Now Showing' board at the front adds character for what it lacks in structure. The red velvet curtains and gold-plaited popcorn boxes bring back fond memories for me, and was a novelty to my friends. It has become retro - not because they have slaved over the decor, but because it simply hasn't changed. The cinemas themselves are beautiful, the main one is huge with curving rows of seats. It's really nice to go to a traditional cinema now and again. They show all the new releases, as well as some less-known edgy indie films. There's something for everyone at the cameo. It's worth going to the Cameo to see that film that you were going to go to the Omni centre for . Why, I hear you ask? Why not? It's a different experience, same film. It's not that comfortable if the film is long, and the huge rooms make it easy to get cold, but it's really pleasant.

When you step through the door, under the big neon board outside which proudly announces all the films currently on show and into the lobby, you feel as though you're walking into a picure house in the 1950s. But in a good way. They have a mix of current blockbusters on show, like Inception, alongside arty and foreign films to suit the high-brow types. The downside though, is that with it being a smaller independent cinema it has much fewer films on show as the bigger ones do.

Rick and I wrapped up a heavy day of sightseein, but we weren't ready to to just sit around the hotel all night. Since this place wasn't too far from our hotel, we decided to see a film. This place is basically the same as any other multiplex back in the States. It's part of a shopping center, so if you've seen a mall cinema in the U.S. then you've seen this one. We saw "Get Him to the Greek" which was hilarious. The theater itself is pretty clean and the help here is pretty friendly. Worth it if you're in the area.

This film goes from being deadly serious to comical at times thanks to John Goodman who plays the brother of one Captain "Whip" Whitaker and main support from Cheadle and Greenwood. Whip is faced with landing a plane safely and against the odds during an in flight incident. A later meeting in hospital with(Reilly) leads to a lustful set of circumstances, however bigger problems come in the shape of convincing the courts, flight investigators, friends and himself that it had just been an ordinary day before the crash. But the mystery of what really happened to him forces Whip to face inner demons no matter what the journey entails... Fantastic five star dramatic characters.

The theatre is comfortable and warm and has a vintage feel to it as the curtains open to reveal the screen. However there are no cup holders or much leg room but who cares when you can watch classic films like wizard of oz on big screen. The bar and cafe are great too although the portions are huge and a lot goes to waste the food is very tasty! The reception area sells DVD's which is great but it would be quicker and easier to find a DVD if they were displayed sideways instead of frontwards to save time flicking through every single DVD which is so frustrating and I give up in the end. Also the filmhouse has a sale of Vinyl records every month but there is no information in the filmhouse about it, no leaflet telling you when it's on, what time or how much the vinyls might cost, which I think would be useful in letting people know about events and things happening at the Filmhouse. All in all I give the Filmhouse a 5*.

However, even the exciting presence of a B list "celebrity" on stage, cannot disguise the odour of 'musty pensioner' eminating through the auditorium. At the bar, I was asked "glass or plastic" which was not regarding the type of receptacle I preferred for my drink, but in fact, which type of hip replacement I would like so I could join their exclusive members club. Looking around, at the pretentious and sad faced individuals frequenting the pre show bar, I eagerly declined the offer. However, if venturing to a public theatre to drink pots of tea, while wearing a matching, home knitted hat and scarf combo before watching someone on stage that may or may not be worth the ticket price, is your idea of being part of the 'in crowd' then I'd advise that the plastic hip option may be lighter and more economical. Wine gums available at reception.
