Grampi's is a great restaurant with very fast service, though the prices struck me as a bit high. We arrived right at opening and were seated immediately. The bread was very soft and tasty, and we ordered a pizza and Gnocchi. The pizza, we got a Margarita, was actually really good! A little piece of Italy here in Zermatt. As for the Gnocci, it was actually one of the better versions of the dish that I have had; a very cheesy tomato based sauce. The waiter was not as kind or attentive as I prefer, but he was not a poor waiter overall. So this rating is taking my wife's food into account with her recommendations. The ambiance is great. Service was quick but what really it all comes down to is the food. I had the salmon which was really tasty. It came with choice of sides and I got polenta and vegetables. I don't recommend the vegetables, they were bland and just not for me. The polenta was yummy. My wife had risotto with mushrooms and black truffles. She wasn't impressed. It was lacking some flavor and risotto wasn't cooked all the way for her liking. This was the best four cheese pizza I ever had. Whenever I want pizza, this is what I want it to taste like but it never does. I have this belief that food at an Italian restaurant run by Italians rarely disappoints. Maybe it's a little misguided, but they love their food and are so particular about it! Grampi's, unfortunately, clearly proved me wrong. It wasn't terrible, especially since the portions are huge and it's a bit cheaper than the rest of (expensive) Zermatt, but it just wasn't good. The starters--fish soup, minestrone soup, salmon carpaccio, beef carpaccio--were uninteresting and lacked flavor. The mains were not much better. Our seafood risotto was very wet, like rice in thick soup. There was a good variety of seafood and again, the portion was massive, but it was also under-seasoned and the rice was overcooked. The three other pasta dishes we ordered were also blah. Props for the homemade pasta but the tagliatelle was also too soft. My fusilli was quite thick and chewy (gnocchi-like) which I enjoyed and the ragu wasn't half bad, probably the best out of the mediocre dishes. It's a comfortable place with decent service and the decor's rustic and homely with all the framed pictures on the ceiling, but I wouldn't be coming back and won't recommend it to my friends. We ordered the gnochchi, the fusili with wild boar ragu and the lasagna. All the three dishes were very flavorful and fresh. The boar ragu was a little on the chewier side but the flavor was fantastic! There is also a good bar downstairs which happened to have some amazing live music the night we visited. read more

Definitely a safe bet - nothing too crazy or special here (pretty typical Italian food) but it seems like an easy place to go. It has something for everyone. The pizza is good - I've had better but there's nothing wrong with it. Some of the toppings are a bit weird? A lot of seafood, which I'm not a huge fan of on a pizza. They have a good ham and marscapone one though! They have mini desserts which I liked - I had mini tiramisu, perfect amount to share with one other person if you only want a bite! read more

After a long afternoon of exploring the ski resort town of Zermatt my boyfriend and I were ravenous. Not being European we didn't realize that most places don't serve dinner until 6 or 7. Our waiter let us put our order in early - thank goodness!! We both settled on pasta dishes & both were delicious. It was my first gnocchi experience and will probably be the best of my life as well. THe food is reasonably priced. There is live music. It is reasonably priced unlike most restaurants in town. It looked like it would be a blast at night with a nightclub in the basement. Although we had a good experience I'm not sure we would return. There are so many more restaurants to explore! read more

Probably some of the best Italian food I've had outside Italy. Friendly staff, top notch wood fired pizzas, and fresh, delicious pastas. There's something wrong with the electrical wiring in this place. Every few minutes, all of the lights in the restaurant flicker off. It got to be quite annoying. Grampi's doesn't seem to be busy except during the magical dining hours between 7-9 pm. You better have a reservation or else you're gonna have to come back after 9:30 pm. The decor is quite strange for an Italian place. It's got Americana paraphernalia all over the walls and ceilings. The pizzas are big enough to share between 2 people. Thin crust and a bit "floppy," but fairly tasty. We also sampled a couple of pasta dishes. Those were pretty good as well. We saw the table next to us order a huge plate of ribs (strange for Italian restaurant), but they devoured it, so it must've been good. Nothing in Zermatt is exactly "cheap," but Grampi's is probably one of the more economical restaurant choices that exists there. read more

For starters we had a green salad, which was pretty standard, but good. The added corn on the bottom really elevated that dish from boredom, but besides that you know what to expect from a green salad. For a main course I had a lasagne, which was very good. It was soft to bite, and the sauce was hot and well made. The meat perhaps left a little more to be desired, but still, I guarantee you will enjoy it if you like lasagne. Even my picky grandma approved of it. For dessert, I shared a Banana Split with my brother. It was superb! I really can't think of anything that was mediocre about it. As for other courses, they got good responses from family members and looked very nice. The atmosphere was great, and I'd recommend choosing the second floor if possible, as it has a nice view. Free wifi, too. Biggest problem was the price. I feel like €€ isn't a good representation of it at all! The small salad was 10 franks, and the lasagne was 24.5! These dishes were on the lower end of the price range as well. This is my main reason for deducting a star from an otherwise very pleasant experience. I would recommend choosing it if you know what prices you're dealing with. read more

We arrived very late in Zermatt due to a train schedule mistake (mine) and the guys were hungry at 11 pm. This was one of the few restaurants still open. Extremely good pizza from a real brick oven. Also be sure to try the local beer especially if you don't like the hoppier beers. read more
