We chose to stay at Locanda Piemonte Da Sciolla based on internet descriptions we read while home in the USA. From the minute we walked into the reception area, we felt warmly welcomed by the proprietress. The room and bathroom were spacious and clean, and the view from our terrace was breathtaking--ancient slate roofs in the foreground, the majestic Alps off in the distance. Breakfast is included in the stay. The continental breakfast was really outstanding; it included numerous local cheeses, a tasty pistachio croissant, numerous fresh-baked fruit tarts, fresh fruit, panna cotta, creme de caramel, very tasty coffee, a juicer with fresh oranges, all first rate. We just had dinner. It's October, and the tables were artfully decorated with autumnal local fare--apples and chestnuts in the hull. Tapered candles were lit. It felt homey--like a trip to your old Italian grandmother's house. We received a complementary aperitif, and a lovely complementary zucchini tart as an amuse-bouche. We weren't particularly hungry, so after such a gracious start to the meal, we felt bad to only order one plate each, but the waitress and proprietress treated us as if we had ordered the most expensive meal in the place, and considering that the prix fixe meal was only 28 Euros, really nothing is prohibitively expensive here. I love a good melanzane parmigiana, so I ordered that. It was exquisite. My wife ordered porcini with polenta, and she loved it. We had a simple glace for dessert--mine was blueberry, and my wife's was panna cotta flavored. Both were outstanding. The food is first rate, but it's the obvious pride of ownership of the proprietress and her staff that make this place so special. read more
