Our first (and last) time there, came in for lunch as a family of 5. Why does it take half an hour to get food? Don't know. Half of us waited for the other half to get their food. The coffee machines were broken (Hey management! $10 at Wal Mart gets you the ability to at least serve some coffees...) So we're stuck getting smoothies several times more expensive. THEN, oh then, we had to send back the guac on toast dish which was ordered no feta. The food prep lady (we came to call her "purple hare don't care") made it over. Her answer to the complaint? She scraped off everything (you could see the marks) and just gave guac on toast minus EVERYTHING else. At that point, we gave up. My parfait was just ok, the yogurt was almost watery. Never again. Grain and Berry used to be one of my absolute favorite places to get lunch from. I love the variety of fruits that you can use to construct a bowl. I loved how their bowls tasted. I loved how they took allergies really seriously and would make my base in a special blender that was never used with nuts when I specify that I had a nut allergy. So why am I using past tense here? It's because I haven't ordered food from Grain and Berry for over a year. I used to order delivery from them at least twice a week. I would specify in the order that I had an allergy and I could feel confident knowing they would handle it with care like they always did. The problem is with both DoorDash and Uber Eats I lost the ability to specify my allergy. On DoorDash it now says something such as "This store has chosen not to accept special requests" and on UberEats the option to leave a comment doesn't even show up any more when ordering from Gain and Berry. With any other restaurant when I have issues like this I contact them and they address it. I've tried multiple times with phone calls and emails to Grain and Berry, with retries being months apart. The responses have ranged from "I don't know" to "We'll look into it" but nothing ever changes. I'm still able to leave comments with other restaurants on delivery services so I don't know why this scenario is different. It's a shame but I'm not going to try anymore. I envy those of you that don't have to deal with allergies! read more

I normally try not to give less than 3 stars but this was deserved. The only reason I didn't give it one star is because the waiting area was clean. I wrote this review but decided that it was too long and wanted to just point out the problems and not get carried away. 1)this smoothie was disgusting. No other way to describe it. For almost $8 it wasn't worth it. It wasn't blended well and even if it was it would still be terrible. The parfait was also subpar the only thing good on it was the fruit placed on top. Almost $16 for something this terrible should be a crime. 2) I understand they where busy which is why I waited because I can understand, I worked in the food industry before so I get it. BUT I was still waiting for my order and everyone before and after me had come and gone. Honestly the slow service was fine but the order was terrible. I wouldn't eat here again. This place was a great addition to the USF area. The bowls are delicious, but TBH I disliked their smoothies, etc. I couldn't finish it at all the last time. The bowls are very filling as well, it would be enough to share between 2 people. The bowls are on the expensive side, about $10 for a bowl. Why 5 stars? Because the variety of acai bowls is un-matched here. --- --- --- I defy anyone to find a place that offers more options when it comes to fruit and granola. I'd say acai bowls, but that would be short-changing Grain and Berry because they sell pitaya bowls, kale bowls and I think maybe even some others. I feel like I'd need to come back here nearly every day (Chris W style) to get the full experience and order one-by-one until I've tried every item on the menu. But because I just don't have that Chris W mojo, I had to opt for the thing that looked the most appealing, and that happened to be the Mango Passion Bowl. Mangoes, Coconuts, Pineapples, Bananas and Acai - how can you lose?! It turns out - you can't lose. My tastebuds very decisively won with this decision. The only complaint I have is while the cups that these are served in are photogenic, they're not practical. With every scoop of my spoon, I was losing granola and fruit that would tumble over the edge. It's impossible to eat without major spillage, but that's something that could easily be corrected with a larger serving bowl. However, the serving bowl is definitely not going to be enough to keep me away. I may not be Chris W, but I'd like to publicly declare my love for Grain & Berry after just one visit! I saw this place in the same plaza as First Watch and decided to try it on a whim after getting a haircut. Upon entering , it has a rustic/wood look ,but the dining space felt larger than it looked. There was Caribbean dance music which was different. Now I have no idea what acai is. I heard it was South american.I prayed it would be a lot better than jackfruit. I ordered the rinse,repeat,eat (IIRC). When I got my bowl , it looked very appealing with the banana, strawberry, peanut butter drizzled on top. Underneath sits the acai. It is actually a purple puree , not chunks of fruit like the banana/strawberry. It tasted good, but not distinctive. To be honest, in combination with all the other elements, it can get lost especially since the other stuff is on the top. The peanut butter they use is really good. It has a very soft ,silky consistency and has a sweeter taste than standard store bought PB. I also cant say how healthy it is truthfully since I ordered a more "dessert" option and I didn't read a health label. It tasted very good. IMO, its basically a "Super Parfait Fighter 2 Turbo"- a parfait type bowl taken to its best form. The place was clean and the employees are were friendly. The only real negative is the price. Most bowls are around $10. Maybe due to importing the acai fruit. I think Id come here for breakfast ,alternating with First Watch. Great place for bowls, smoothies & other fresh items like banana/yogurt splits. They have a great selection of bowls, much more than other places I've been to, with acai, dragon fruit & kale bases. Toppings included organic granola, various fruits, coconut flakes, Nutella & peanut butter which allows for the many options. You can also customize your own bowl. The flavors were great and very large servings. I really enjoyed the dragon berry base as a change up from commonly found acai bases. The location was cute and filled with lots of local college students even though it was the summer session. I appreciate they use real utensils & bowls for those eating in instead of stuff that gets thrown away- check in eco friendly! The staff was very friendly and helpful if you have questions. I understand it's not going to be solid I've ordered many açaí bowls before but it was soup. Now I have to go home and freeze it. I ordered extra strawberries and it was just an average portion. This is my second time trying Grain and Berry on Fowler Ave and I'm definitely a fan. I have only had their bowls so this review is strictly based on that. The price may seem a bit hot at $10, however for the amount you get in the bowl, the freshness of all the ingredients, the flavors, and the beauty in the presentation; it's worth it. It took me 2 hrs to eat the bowl lol. Definitely an alternative to lounging at a coffee shop. There is free WiFi and adequate seating.
