I want to give Graffiti Bar higher than 3 stars, but I was a bit disappointed. Maybe I had my hopes up too high? I'm not sure. The bouncer at the entrance was an interesting guy and probably the best type of person for the "door". The mysterious little alleyway full of random writing helped to build the anticipation for the bar itself. The back wall of the bar area is vibrant and makes for a great photo opp, as I saw many people pose for one (it's me, I am people). The bar area itself is teeny tiny, and once it's crowded it's tough to maneuver. I ordered a Moscow mule. It's an easy drink to make and it's often my go-to at a new bar so I can determine what I'm getting myself into with the bartender and pricing. I wasn't asked the vodka I'd like used in the drink. My mule did not come in your standard copper mug, but rather a Collins glass. It also didn't taste much like a Moscow mule and wasn't strong at all. A waste of $11+tip. I'm not sure if I'll return. This is definitely the top 5 happy hour spots in Philadelphia. I've gone rain and shine and still enjoyed my time. Please expect a very large crowd during happy hour and consider yourself lucky if you can find a table and seat during your happy hour experience (the earlier you arrive the better). Happy hours are Monday - Sunday (win)! In order to enter you have to walk down a very narrow walkway so hopefully you are not claustrophobic or a get caught in a bottleneck on your way in or out. The happy hour menu has so many good and tasty options. Everything on the menu is soo good! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. It's the type of place with low lighting, LED decor lighting on the wall, and candles lit on the tables (real candles). My friend and I were sat at a high top right next to the open kitchen. Our server was lovely and attentive. My friend ordered an Old Fashion and I had the Thai Punch. We both enjoyed our drinks. Our server made sure that my friend's drink didn't have any citrus (allergies). My friend ordered the Lo Mein and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the duck samosas and I found them to be tasty. I found this place on Instagram and I'm so glad we came here. It's kind of a "secret" bar since you have to go down this alleyway. We came here for happy hour so it was pretty packed. We were still able to snag seats. We got the scorpion bowl and since it was just two people drinking it, we got pretty drunk. I mostly saw young professionals in groups of 4ish. You may not find a seat. But that's definitely for the cool, hipster vibe, great drinks and food, and the prices! We didn't have a seat so we camped by the standing bar. The waitress/bartender spotted us right away and handed out the happy hour menus and made great recommendations. Wow, those who know me know that I give 5 stars very sparingly. But this place truly deserves it given the ambiance, service, food and price. This was my first time here based on good Yelp reviews. It is located behind the restuarant Sampan with clear sign that says Graffiti Bar. It is a cool alleyway that leads to the outdoor bar that is covered overhead so no need to worry about rain. Happy Hour is daily including weekends from 4-7 PM. Most food items are $5. Cocktail of the day and wines are $5. Speciality cocktails are $9. For food, I had the kimchee shrimp fried rice and banh mi. The fried rice was superb: there was generous portion of shrimp. The banh mi was a little bit disappointing...I feel like the bread was too dry and there was no dipping sauce. Tip: Come early at 4 PM so you get a seat at the bar or high top tables. My favorite happy hour place in Philly! Not only are the drinks really cheap and good but the food is also cheap and so good!! The entrance alleyway here is easy to miss, so just look for a hanging sign pointing into a small alley on the left of sampan! Seating is first come first serve but everything moves pretty fast here so if there looks like no seats, just wait a bit and some seats will usually free up and you can claim them If you have 4+ people, would recommend getting one of their bowls to share for drinks! (~$25) and then getting a couple plates to share! You definitely have to get the crispy Brussel sprouts, edamame dumplings, banh mi, pork bao sliders, and if you want a little more, get the chicken wings and kimchi fried rice! Hands down one of the best Happy Hour experiences I've ever had. Came to visit this spot while I was visiting that came highly recommended by my brother who frequents the spot. Got there just before Happy Hour started at 4 which is key because it fills up quickly. We got prime seating at the end of the bar and were handed menus right away. I trusted his recommendations and ordered the Beef Satay, Spring Rolls and Chicken Bao buns. Everything was fantastic!! Cooked very well and came out fast and hot. The Beef melted in my mouth as was so full of flavor. The spring rolls were fresh and hot and the Bao buns were soft. I also tried some of the Korean style wings and they were amazing. I ordered a few different drinks and every one was just great!!! I'll be thinking about this spot for weeks. It's such a cool hang out spot for Happy Hour with a diverse crowd. Found this gem on Yelp during a random, mostly unplanned, weekend in Philly. Lead my skeptical friends down the narrow ass alley to their uncertain demise and BOOM it was lit! Graffiti Bar is my favorite happy hour in the city - well-deserving of 5 stars. The bar is located right behind Sampan (take the alley way back). It is usually decently crowded around 5 PM, but is starting to get less crowded now that the weather is getting colder. They have a wide array of drinks - including their famous fishbowls, which they rotate flavors. The favorite part of their happy hour for me is their food. You can get SOO much (amazing) food for such a good price. I always get the edamame dumplings, which are the favorite part of the meal for me. Graffiti Bar is a cool place, neon lights basically lead you through an alley way which is behind Sampan. Its a cool concept and they have a great happy hour specials. They're known for their "Fish Bowl" drinks which are good for 2-3 people. We stopped here for happy hour before the dinner and ended up ordering couple of local beers on draft and tried their scorpion bowl. It was pretty good. Also, the entire area is covered too which makes it nice even in a drizzle. It's a bit pricey but not bad and the bar food is good. Checked out graffiti bar this past Sunday. I love that they have happy hour EVERY day and until 7pm. We tried the Kantoi Road which is a spicy margarita and it was soooo good, I highly recommend. For food we tried the crab Rangoon, fried rice, and Brussels sprouts. All the food was really good. The only downside was service was super backed up to it took an insanely long time to get our last dish but the staff was super apologetic and took it off our bill and comped our drink. Graffiti Bar is the bar behind the alley next to Sampan. Owned by the same company, Graffiti Bar has all of the typical snacks that you could get at Sampan, but in a cute outdoor area. The bar is definitely more of a 20s crew, with a boisterous atmosphere. I came here with some friends for their happy hour deals, which have cheap drinks and small dishes. The dishes are mostly less than $5, and they usually have a specialty cocktail along with many beers available. I highly recommend the pork bao buns - they are phenomenal!! The Bahn Mi sandwich is also really good, and is one of the larger dishes for sure. I also highly recommend trying the duck confit wings for something a little more out of the ordinary, yet yummy. The downsides of this bar are that it gets extremely crowded, especially when the weather is great, and there is limited seating. Service is pretty fast, but they ran out of utensils when we went! If it weren't for the lively atmosphere and great food, I wouldn't rate the bar so high. The fried rice is a large essentially full entree size serving with shrimp and eggs. The pork buns are also extremely tasty and quite filling. The true value of the happy hour is the portion sizes and the variety available on the special menu. Finally, the mojito was quite refreshing. I'm not sure if the drinks are on rotation though. I don't spend a lot of time in Philly and I feel like it gets a bad wrap from NY/NJ people. I came for a party in the back outdoor area and it was fun. You enter through a side alley with a bouncer standing out front. It had a speakeasy vibe to it which I love. The food was delicious. The dumplings were light and came with a nice broth. I entered Sampan a little after 4PM on a Thursday evening took a seat near the back wall, the young lady wiping down the counter top returned with a menu asking to take my drink order. I ordered a sake she stated "from the happy hour" and began to walk away, I stopped her and placed my food order. When she returned with my sake I thanked her. She went back to the bar and began talking with a bartender, moments later she returned asking for a credit card "to hold" I questioned "to hold" she replied "it get crowded so we ask for a card to hold" I told her I wouldn't be there long enough for it to get crowded, she replied "so you're saying you're not going to give me a card" I asked do you ask everyone for a card before they dine, she walked away and began speaking with the bartender again, he looked over at me and said "what ?" I froze in disbelief. I just dined at Sampan less than a week prior and I've frequented the graffiti bar and never had I been asked for a card to hold. I asked the bartender, you know the one that barked "what?" more like "WHAT?" to speak with a manger. The manager walked up and didn't introduce himself or say anything for that matter, just stood there. I explained the card situation he stated it was policy to ask each guest for a card to run a tab, I questioned if each guest in the bar had given a card, he replied with an assured yes, I knew this wasn't the case as another crew seated next to me had just sat down and received drinks as well and never gave a card. I explained to him that a tab was never mentioned and I asked the server initially for clarification, she never mentioned a tab. I asked if the graffiti bar was a part of STARR and he replied yes, by far the worst STARR experience ever!!!!! I've dined all over, and if it's a tab they will usually ask if you want to run a tab. He finally apologized in a patronizing manner, and said "is that all, I don't want your food to get cold" I replied that I wouldn't be dining and that I'd take a few boxes, he looked over at the bar and yelled "he needs boxes just as loudly as he'd been having this entire exchange causing more a scene then he'd already caused. I took out cash leaving $40 for 3 happy hour dishes and a "happy hour sake" as the server referenced. As seen in the pics, money, boxes, food, and an almost full sake, broken heart not shown. All I have to show for this experience is an empty stomach and insults. The bartender and staff all stood at the bar commenting and making remarks to one another, even the server said loudly "see this is why I should've stayed home". The manager dropped the ball he had every opportunity to make it right if he had taken a minute to listen instead he escalated a situation and embarrassed the hell out of a guest. This could've been a teachable moment. I've been invited and attended the STARR Christmas parties each year that I've worked in hospitality as a thank you for all the business we send their way, this Christmas season I was left with a holiday horror story, I will never part my lips to recommend this location again. BTW my egg wasn't poached and mixed at the table it was scrambled which I didn't ask for. I called the number listed several times and couldn't reach a soul, message said the hours were until 5pm but it was a quarter to and nothing. SADD that STARR has become this. I still remember a time when service was superb and guests were heard. I doubt if this rant will matter, as the manager was way to comfortable in his rudeness. It was decided that I didn't belong in this space as soon as I arrived and the manager confirmed it when he went along with the charade and lied about everyone being asked for a card. A little equity training may help but the fish rots from the head to the tail and if this manger is a part of the head then, trouble is near. I love this place. The last few times I was in Philly with my sister we stopped in for a drink/appetizers. The entrance is tricky if you don't know, you have to walk down a slim "alleyway" or more like space between two brick buildings to get to the patio. It's heated in winter which is great, not a ton of seating and it fills up quickly. You can also get in through the restaurant it's behind called SAMPAN.
