Very welcoming staff and clean facility. My son was first of us starting with the Bully proof program. While he didn't have any bullying issues, the life skills and fundamentals that are also taught with the class have been great! They also incorporate fun activities that keep the young ones engaged. So much so it lead me to join (with some encouragement from my son) I have no prior martial arts background and I'm not getting any younger. However with how the classes are structured I quickly found that to became a moot point. 3 months in and we are both enjoying our classes and even a little competitive fun at home. I recently started taking the Women Empowered Jiu Jitsu class. It is amazing. They teach simple techniques that enable you to defend against an attacker who is bigger and stronger. The class is super fun and the techniques are really good (I practiced the choking defense with my bf who is 6'5 and over 250lbs and it worked!) I can't say enough good things about this place and the staff is great. Also the first 3 classes were free so I was able to try it out before making any commitment. If you are thinking about it just go. You'll love it. read more

At the Gracie Appleton Certified Training Center, we offer specialized programs for the entire family: Gracie Bullyproof for kids (ages 3-12), Women Empowered for ladies only, Gracie Combatives for beginner adults/teen, and the Master Cycle for advanced adults. The Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Appleton Certified Training Center established in 2012 under the Gracie Academy (Torrance, CA est 1925).

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Appleton was established as a the first certified training center in Wisconsin under Gracie University in 2012.

Meet the Business Owner: Kent M.

Kent is a Gracie Black Belt, certified instructor, Owner and Co-Founder of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Appleton. He began training Jiu-Jitsu in 2006. Kent has experience in several martial arts including American freestyle Karate (3rd degree Black Belt) and Krav Maga. He has been been an Inspector & Judge for the state of Wisconsin since 2010 when Boxing and MMA was regulated. In 2016 Kent co-chaired a committee that regulated Unarmed Combat for the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services. Mr. Maichle has a passion for supporting Law Enforcement & first responders, which lead him to complete the Gracie Survival Tactics programs (GST1 & 2) and SafeWrap Certification. Kent completed the Gracie Instructor Certification Program in July 2012.

Any who, we checked out Flashback after speaking to one of the owners, Jina. We gave it a week's trial, and really love the fun way coach Jesse and Jina (husband & wife) teach the classes. They are playful and very nice, but firm and expect respect from the kids. It was perfect for my son. There is plenty of 1-1 training too, and great examples, in addition to daily sparing where the kids get to put what they learned to the test. Though we were not able to continue to go due to personal reasons, which was quite unfortunate, I would go back in a heartbeat if possible. My wife and son loved it otherwise. If you have a child (or yourself as an adult) wants to learn self-defense and a martial art's system that will be superior to Taekwondo and other forms of karate, then check this place out!

By the time I got there, my family had mostly set up the area, but there were several picnic tables and lots of space for our own lawn chairs as well as setting up some lawn games to play. The park is generously sized and has several large parking lots. There are playgrounds and, the main draw for many, is the beach area. Swimming was free and the sandy area was kept fairly tidy. There were lifeguards on duty, both on shore and at the raft with the slide and diving boards. You must be able to swim out there on your own and demonstrate a basic ability to stay afloat, in order to dive and whatnot. The water is a Wisconsin lake, so expect some algae and seaweed and even some fish. It is nature. Don't expect pristine-ness. I don't know when or if I will ever be back, but this is a nice park with a lot to offer .
