The folks at this store go out of their way to help. If something isn't on the shelf, they go back to the warehouse and look for it. Prices are as one would expect but the fact this isn't a big corporate box store brings me in time and time again. I've been a frequent customer of GR Mitchell's hardware store since being in Willow Street for 2+ years. The staff have always knowledgeable and helpful, sometimes even taking the time to listen to me describe the small projects I've been working on and recommending the right tool or item needed to complete it. Yes, the store's stock isn't as big as those at Home Depot, Lowes or Ace Hardware down the road, but anything from the True Value website can be ordered and picked up at at this location. The prices here are comparable with the other hardware stores as well, especially when you factor in the cost of driving elsewhere. Plus the customer service you get here is priceless. read more

On the advice of a friend I went to GR Mitchell lumber to buy some sheet stock. I was met by the least courteous employee in the lumber warehouse . When I asked to have some of the sheet stock cut to size the experience was less than preferential... far, far less. The man was either having a very bad day or was a very poor example of an employee. Providing customer service was NOT his priority. (The staff inside at the counter where I placed my order we're very professional and courteous. But they gave one another a "knowing glance" when I mentioned the man in the warehouse and his poor attitude.) When I used the company's website contact information to explain the very poor service, I never received any reply or response! I'll certainly not be going back. read more

What I love about Mitchell's- Being new to the county, I used to drive to Lowe's, which took me some time. Plus, the traffic was bad and the parking.... You get it. Buyer beware!! We came to buy lumber for a deck at this location in Willow Street. There was a younger guy that brought over the garbage wood on a towmotor when we first arrived. We wanted wood that was not damaged and warped. Then after we would not buy his lame story about the fact that this was grade B wood. We found a brand new pile of wood. The young guy called called Dan, the lumber supervisor, on the radio. We were shocked by how rude Dan 'the lumber yard man' was at G.R Mitchell. He looked like he just came off the set of Duck Dynasty and he did not have a facial cover when he came to be berate us like children. He tried to sell us unsatisfactory wood, he said that we were trying to pick through the wood and 'screw' his other customers, meanwhile he was trying to give us warped, damaged wood. You are not allowed to pick which wood you want to take. They want you to take warped and damaged wood! Stay clear of this place and do your business elsewhere. They have no customer service skills and we will never do business with them again. Dan needs a good customer service class. He is one of the rudest people I have ever met. And he did not maintain social distancing and did not wear a facial covering. We tell everyone we know including all of our contract friends in the area. read more

The best hardware store around! This is our resource for any of our home improvement needs. The staff is incredibly friendly- and we love supporting a local business! They can help with any home improvement project from the smallest job to a full-scale contracting project! Love this place! I went in for paint and they bent over backwards to help me with choosing the right colors. Also, I went to pick up a large storm door and I just drove right into the lumber yard to pick it up, and they loaded it in my van for me. Awesome service! read more

Quality service and quality people who have always been happy to help me. I ask questions, often need help searching for an odd item or two, may need help loading something, and request detailed information on the products they recommend, and they are always helpful. Also, I just bought bags of garden soil and they were less expensive than the Lowe's price! read more

The staff is friendly and they have quite a lot of merchandise, but what turned me off is the multiple times I've been in the store to get keys made. Each and every single time the staff has complained about the quality of the keys I'm trying to get copied. They're not bent and they're not that worn. However, despite this, I've even heard smart comments regarding it, often times with hands in the air "Sorry you have to call the manufacturer." Yeah, okay buddy. On the flip side, I've taken other keys that were in absolutely terrible shape to Ace Hardware (RT 272) and Farmer Supply in Lancaster. Both places get an exact copy made first try. In short, GR Mitchell is a nice place for most items, but their insane lack of quality key making severely turned me off to them. I'll drive the equal distance to Ace Hardware and get better all-around service. read more

Poor customer service. They do not ask if you need help or even greet you when you walk in the door. It's almost impossible to get any worker's attention if you do need to ask a question. Today I waited on line to check out even though a second register was open because the employee was talking to a friend instead of checking out customers - and yes he did see me standing there waiting. They also have a poor selection of supplies especially compared to another hardware store that is located just a mile away. I try not to shop here, but sometimes I do for the sake of convenience. read more
