Gp Auto-Tech Center has been in our family for years. I remember when they were in the back of the Exxon station years ago. They are very helpful to us, even on things like body and AC that they don't usually do. They take good care of our cars. If we need to go to another specialist, they will tell us. I have appreciated their advice and care of our cars. They will not do unnecessary work, nor insist that an expensive job be done immediately. I appreciate their courtesy and efficiency. It is important to know ahead of time when something will need to be done so we can plan for it, schedule-wise AND money-wise. They understand that. They only got one star because I can't leave zero stars. They kept my car for a full day without even looking at it. I called at opening the following day and was told they "might" be able to look at it before lunch. That's just to see what the issue is, mind you, not to actually fix it. If you're too busy to take on more work, don't take on more work. Don't hold my car hostage when it's still able to be driven. I could have dropped it off at a later time instead of wasting a full day for nothing! Never again! I'll drive to Corpus next time. I rate this establishment 2 stars because the description fits how I feel: "Meh. I've experienced better." Convenience: Pretty good if you live in Portland. They are pretty much your only choice for most car work sans going into another town. Speed: Depends. The shop gets packed with cars, so don't always expect to get out of there under an hour (after you find a place to park). Quality: I've heard stories, and you can expect them from all auto shops. However, they are always right. Complaints about most things usually get the "it was already like that" line. (No, door panel tabs do not come broken by the manufacturer.) Service: Aha, this is my biggest problem. Note, this is the abridged version as I am much more animated when I tell it myself. So there's a fella behind the counter who acts like he wrote the book on auto mechanics. All customers are ignorant of what goes on behind those garage doors. So I go in to get my tires rotated and aligned. After waiting all day, I get a call that they could not perform the task as their computer found a problem. They asked if I was willing to put $500 into replacement parts and I declined. I go to the counter to receive my keys and the lady says "Cash or Credit?" I say, "oh, you must think I'm someone else, nothing was done to my car, they told me to just pick it up." She tells me that they still charged me because they attempted to work on my car. I argue that I requested for my tires to be rotated and aligned, neither tasks were done, so therefore I should not be charged when no services were rendered. She says that the service was finding out that it couldn't be done. About this time aforementioned fella arrives, toting smirk . He says, "now you can't expect me to not pay my mechanics for the time it took to look at your car, why it's been here for over 4 hours!" Yes, 3 hours and 45 minutes providing shade to your parking lot, 15 minutes on the lift. He goes on about the mysteries of the alignment machine and the skill involved to operate said machine by pressing "Go." I argue that I didn't ask for my car to get a check-up, I asked for a do or don't do service. With what only can be described as insulting, he tells me there's no way I'm getting my keys back until I pay. Guess who won. So in summation, a little hole was burned into my heart of which I filled with spite for this "Auto-Tech" center. Your experience may vary. read more

I would not recommend. I visited gp auto tech to have my truck inspected. They failed me for inspection because my windows were supposedly tinted too dark, and recommended me to remove all my window tints completely. I have a receipt showing the labor and tint that is on my windows was in fact legal. Also said that my 3rd led taillight was not functioning. I then went to Parker's in ingleside and they had told me that gp auto techs machine probably was not calibrated correctly. And that my 3rd brake light was also functioning as it should be. I'm from Portland and I understand how they work. First of all, cars are tended to as the are received. They do not cut corners, they go by the book and that's why they've never been sued for a faulty repair. I've had timing belts replaced, head gaskets replaced, AC systems replaced, brakes replaced, tune ups, injectors replaced and so on. GP Auto Tech has worked on ALL my different cars over the past 40 years. I trust them. Ask yourself, "Why are they always packed with cars and trucks needing repairs?" It's because they are good and charge a reasonable price. I've known the family when they owned the Exxon station decades ago. They do good work, they go by the book, they do it right. They just don't move a lightning speed. They don't cut corners. They follow the correct steps. If you're looking for the cheap shade tree mechanic who can't hold a job look in Craig's list in Corpus and take a 12 pack with you. This place is the worst. I took my car in to get the brake pads replaced. I called ahead of time to make sure they could get it done in the morning. They assured me they could. I called after 4 hours and they hadn't even looked at it. Then they call me back another 2 hours later telling me that I need 4 new rotors and that it would be $450. I know what a car with bad rotors drives like and that is not the problem. They agreed to not change the rotors but are charging me almost $300 for four brake pads! Not to mention it took them 7 hours to even start working on my car. I will never, ever, under any circumstance use this place again. What a nightmare. read more

Absolutely the worst. After having gone there several years, and been satisfied, lately they try to rip me off for $700.00 on an air conditioning unit that was not bad. I had them add freon, and a year later it still works fine, after they said it all leaked out. Asked them to fix my windshield washer, and it didn't last 4 miles. My family and I have been taking our cars here for years.They have always done honest, good work for us and we have NEVER had a bad experience with them. These guys cannot even put an inspection sticker on the windshield strait so why would I trust them with something that actually matters. After seeing that the sticky/glue was still on the windshield under and on the sides of the new state inspection sticker I confronted them about it. I was told that they could straiten the sticker but if it tore I would have to pay for a new one! I mean really was it my fault that it was put on at a 45 degree angle at the base of the windshield. After getting back into my vehicle I noticed that the stuff I had on my center console was on the floor and in the passenger seat. I asked them what they needed into my center console for since I had already given them the proof of insurance on the vehicle. My though was they were either looking for something to pocket OR they were driving my truck like a bat out of hell while doing the road test. Either way EPIC FAIL. I try my best to keep my money in this city even though I work at a dealership but after this I will just carry my business to where I work. Sad part is for the longest time I recommended this shop to customers of mine and probably sent the hundreds if not thousands in profits. NOT EVER AGAIN. I am an attention to detail person no matter how minor the detail is. Sad thing is I kind of created the issue for myself do the fact that about a year ago I had them do a tire swap between two vehicles, after I paid over a $100 to have them moved over and balanced I had to go to Discount Tire in Corpus to get the balance redone. The guys there said whoever balanced the tires before didn't know what they were doing, so like I said I should have expected this type of service. read more
