This restaurant has a wonderful menu that includes many deli favorites. I was torn between the…read morejackfruit barbecue ribs and the croque monsieur. The barbecue jackfruit plate one, and it $22 was basically enough food for two people. The jackfruit barbecue ribs were incredible: I've never ordered a jackfruit dish before and this was delicious with fantastic barbecue sauce that was tangy but not too sweet and had lots of smoky depth. The corn fritters for like dumplings and very tasty. The garlic bread was just like I would make it home and the rest of vegetable salad was very delicious. They do not have decaf coffee since they only have one coffee grinder - But I tried a couple of chicory as a flat white with coconut milk and was very pleased with the flavor and the drink it's self. The owner of the restaurant was raised on a dairy farm! She and I talked about all the problems that dairy farms and people are causing to the environment generally and especially in New Zealand with use of chemicals and the runoff from agriculture. Peace begins on the plate - and a full belly begins at Kaiaroha!

Still, comparisons with Timeless Coffee (Oakland, CA) and The Butcher's Son (Berkeley CA, not the one in Auckland) are apt. On my first visit I had a classic kiwi item, which is hard to find in the US, a sausage roll and second visit cheesecake. My only complaint is that it probably could have been half the size! The owner was super friendly and we exchanged notes on vegan biz here and in the States. Finally, the coffee was excellent and more like my American coffee expectations with a bolder flavor. Must stop for any vegan in Auckland.

Young Maori girl took the order of someone who. sat down after us and was clearing tables when we were obviously waiting to have our order taken. Every time we needed something had to get up and ask. This girl and another staff member chatting with each other when there were empty drinks on table and I we had our plates removed with empty drinks on the table and no one asking if we wanted another - whoever owns this place lost a fortune in sales this night. Finally approached this girl about her behaviour and she sneered at me rather than apologise! 5 minutes later she was chatting with her friend again!!! Wouldn't go back.

The lighting is really nice. The service was okay, not great but not bad either. It was rather unremarkable. When we first arrived, there were a ton of guys there watching the UFC fight - if you're into UFC, this appears to be the place to go. We started with drinks, I ordered a prosecco and the bf got a beer. The beers didn't have prices on them, but we were still surprised when we got the bill and the beer was $15 - almost as much as my dinner. I'm not sure if that's normal or if I'm still getting adjusted to New Zealand prices, but when my boyfriend asked the kiwis at work, they said it's definitely not normal. I ordered the vegan buddha bowl (was really excited to see a vegan option on the menu at a pub that isn't chips) and my boyfriend ordered the fish and chips he was so excited about. The food came out pretty quickly. Mine was fresh but lacked flavor - it became obvious really quickly that the chef who invented this dish is not vegan nor do they know any vegans. Vegan food is more than just vegetables without dressing ;) Nonetheless, I did enjoy the mashed sweet potato in the middle and I was very happy to be able to eat something healthy at a pub! My boyfriend was very happy with his fish and chips and it came out looking perfect. All in all, the Flying Moa is a standard pub. I do hear that they have a good trivia night which I would be interested to try out, and their drinks list looks enticing - I wouldn't mind trying some of those jam jars and cocktails.

It's a cute place with really sweet staff. I got a green curry made vegan and my boyfriend got a pad Thai with tofu. The green curry was seriously legit. I got a jasmine rice with it. The bf loved his pad Thai and downed it in less than 5 mins, even though the portion was pretty good sized. It looked beautiful but tbh we were too hungry for photos. I ate half my green curry and asked for the rest to go. The server brought it back packed in a cute lil container in a bag and he told me that he packed me some rice to go with it. That seriously blew my mind, I've never had a server do that before. Like I'm pretty sure this is my new favorite Thai restaurant. We ended up spending like an hour and a half at this restaurant because it was so cute and cozy and intimate. We had some good talks and drank some wine and overall it was just fab. Our bill was only like $46, which is apparently cheap for Auckland. I was impressed and I would totally recommend this place! I will definitely be back

The staff here are really friendly and they know how look after their customers well. The food is so good with decent portions too; especially the lunchtime special which is only $13.50 for a meal of your choice. And there are plenty to choose from. The only shit thing about this place is that their hours are quite limited, especially during lunch. You gotta get in quick before they close. Other than that though I'd go here every day for lunch if I was around the area, and had the cash.

The setting is open and pleasant. The kitchen is in easy view and there are palm trees scattered thoughout the large room. Service was inconsistent. It started off great, perhaps because we were early, and later by 7 pm we were searching for our waiter to bring us the check. This is a slightly overpriced restaurant, perhaps because it is in a hotel. Yet, this is not my definition of "fine dining"...it is strictly a casual affair, both in service and quality/presentation of food. We had a grilled chicken breast , w/ salad, $38. My King Salmon w/ pesto slaw (see photos), was $32. A side of steamed veggies was $8. A reasonable option to dining in downtown.

Walking in to this restaurant reminded me of walking in to a Chevy's - it's a similar atmosphere. They have a menu that is filled with half drinks and half food. I ordered a classic margarita and a veggie burrito without cheese and without sour cream (I'm vegan). They were really accommodating on my order and it all came out correctly. My friend ordered the veggie fajitas and hers looked so good. My boyfriend, who was with us, ordered a chicken quesadilla, and he liked it. We had asked for chips and salsa when we ordered, but the waiter forgot to bring them out until after our food. The food came out super quick, so it wasn't a problem. When I ate one of the chips, I realized we were not in California any more. They tasted like packaged chips and the salsa tasted like Pace salsa. Not quite what I'm used to, but after some travel abroad I've come to realize that we are spoiled for Mexican food in California. The drinks were mediocre. I could barely taste alcohol in mine, which was surprising as I rarely drink hard alcohol so I thought I would be able to taste it right away. Maybe I'm just used to strong drinks ;) I wasn't particularly impressed with anything about this place but I was very happy to be in a Mexican restaurant that offered burritos and real Mexican food. The food came out as we ordered it and the burrito was good. I ate the whole thing! All in all, it wasn't a particularly memorable experience, but the food was good and came out quick.

They have a huge range of very delicious drinks, and if you go there a tip for the girls order the El Torero margarita :P (picture below) Their $16 nachos are huge but not so much the best I've had, they add too much jalapenos in my opinion but everyone has their own different taste buds. If you like spicy then it's definitely for you! ;) As for my favourite dish it's the Eye Fillet with sweet (Kumra) potatoe and salsa from the Grill Menu. The atmosphere is amazing! They have amazing lizards in a tank which is a must see, especially when they wear lil sombrero hats! And if you have children they will let them hold the lizards, very cute! Hahaha! Speaking of sombreros they have a variety of beautifully designed sombreros which they let you to wear, just don't be afraid to ask the staff if they could give them to you. They're very fun and awesome for photos! Makes the atmosphere even better :D Only critique that I do have is that due to how overly busy they are, and always trying to fit everyone in, it feels like a rush to eat and leave. Especially during night times. The last time me and my boyfriend went there, we didn't even finish our meals and they took our plates away in such a rush that it was quite surprising. It all happened so quickly neither of us had the time to act. It was disapointing because the meal was so delicious we didn't have time to enjoy it or finish it :( But definitely try it out, and before you go make sure you make a booking otherwise it will get chaotic!
