Gourmet Grill Rathmines - A friendly place with tasty food and great prices to boot,
I was looking for an escape from the cold and rain when i saw the promise of a meal for 7 Euro and good value (like an honest politician) is a rare find these days!
I would like to add here that i studied the menu with vigor and possibly a photographic memory but i didn't, i choose the first thing i saw which was a bacon burger with chips and a coke (not entirely true the first thing that caught my eye was the bubbly serving girl - but she wasn't on the menu anywhere) i took a seat and while there was a bit of a wait the food was delivered down to me.
The freshly made burger was juicy & tender (the wait for the meal mentioned previously is due to the care taken in preparing and cooking the burger) and this is encased in soft light bun (made locally that morning in the pretzel bakery {i think its called} - in Portobello) and there is a secret sauce and onions and a rasher, which made the burger mouth wateringly good. The chips are proper potatoe cut and add to the value of the meal, with your standard fizzy beverages available.
Now if the burger had been the usual flat pancake affair with with a few out of date leafy greens in a sesame seeded bun (typical in a lot of fast food joints these days) i would have just nodded to myself, as that is what value meal generally means (and i sure as hell wouldn't be writing this review), but the gourmet grill is so much more and on a busy street with Saba, Bombay pantry and Abrekababra as neighbors it will have to maintain its high standards if it wishes to stay around for the years to come.
And no for clarification i do not work for the place, the manager or possibly the owner asked me at the end if i enjoyed my meal (which i thoroughly did), and it is from this brief chat that i learned about the fresh made burgers and buns. (the manager/owner actually recommends the chicken in the pitta bread meals over the burger meals) which i will have to try next time.
If i have any regrets its not taking any pictures of the food or venue and not bringing home a menu/waitress to better explain the food/meals available (and they don't seem to have a website yet either)
The rest is up to you to discover, enjoy. read more
