It's not a space, but there are a handful of tables and seating for ~20. Unless you're early, or it's a weekday, be prepared to get your coffee and goodies to go. The coffee is definitely top notch, but it's the baked goods that really wow-ed me. The croissant and pain au chocolat that I had (on two separate occasions, I'm not THAT much of a glutton) were some of the best I've ever had - with wildly flakey, airy and buttery pastry. The pain au chocolat impressed all the more, as any time you put something inside a croissant, it can affect how the pastry cooks, but the bakers at Rise know what's up, and this was no limp, soggy pastry. If you're at this end of PEC, you've gotta be starting your days here, refueling here, or whatever reason you need - Rise is *the* cafe you want to be at.

Berated him in front of customers to the point my husband left and I stayed behind to get a refund for all the stuff we had bought moments earlier. Dude came out for a round two at that point and kept saying nonsense like 'I'm a mask expert, I'm certified' and 'I'm a brick wall nothing you say is going to stick' when I said he should be ashamed of himself for attacking someone who clearly identified they were in cancer recovery. And all this in front of a line of customers. Owner/wife comes out to tell him to stop yelling in front of customers but not a peep of apology to us. Only the cashier was decent, they looked mortified by the whole thing and swiftly completed the refund. (And I am sorely sorry to those who had different experiences!) I came to learn recently that Birdy's has come under new ownership within the last year or so. As such, the menu has changed and the quality of the food has more certainly dropped. We used to go there pretty often for special occasions. Birthdays, meetings, etc. Before, the menu boasted variety and class in Belleville that could not top other restaurants. Yet in dining here again in June, 2024, I am sad to say that they have eradicated a good majority of their menu for "basic" and mundane pallets. My spouse and I used to go for their vegan options which surpassed most other places we've tried, yet were surprised to find that the stroganoff we often eat was no longer there. Half the vegan menu was erased. Instead replaced by the simplest and cheapest of curries and another dish. Two options. Two, compared to the four-five that were given before. Also very curious to claim it as a vegan dish when the kitchen nor the new owners have read the packaging on the pita bread that accompanied it. (It was not Vegan so if vegans are eating here, please beware!!) The portions were also a bit small for the extravagant prices. It was one of our favourites and I hope to see return to what it was prior to the ownership change, but it is clear that the new owners are less inclined to think about quality and more inclined to think about the profit it generates. Unfortunately, we will not be returning.
