This is a review of the Enfuso.com online ordering experience…read more I was looking online for a jar of Mission olives to give a friend for a birthday gift, along with a Mission olive tree I purchased. For some reason, I could not find brined Mission olives anywhere locally (San Diego) so I took a chance and placed an order on Enfuso.com after reading all the positive reviews. I specifically ordered from Enfuso since they are only about 90 miles away and I figured my order would arrive in plenty of time for the event. To avoid high shipping charges for one jar of olives, I also ordered 2 tiny bottles of balsamic vinegar and one small bottle of olive oil to get to the threshold for free shipping. (see picture attached of 4 items ordered) The order was not shipped out for 3 days, and when it arrived a few days after that, the jar of olives - the WHOLE REASON I even placed the order- was missing. I texted (since they request no phone calls) and emailed Enfuso immediately, and asked that the missing jar of olives be shipped out to me asap so I would have it for the purpose intended. I was informed the olives would be mailed out that day, which they were not. (or they were mailed after 5 pm if they were). The TINY 3 oz bottles of balsamic vinegar I ordered for $9 each are a joke. There is not enough product in this $9 to dress one salad! 3 ounces = 6 tablespoons (not 7 as the owner states). The product size is listed as 100 ml, not in standard U.S. ounces, so it is a little deceiving and shocking when you see how tiny 3 oz actually is (think of a tiny little travel sized shampoo bottle). The 250 ml (8 oz) bottle of lemon olive oil for $20 is not something I would have ever purchased either if I saw the size in person. Ridiculously expensive for the amount of product, and absolutely ZERO attention paid to online orders. Go elsewhere! Update: The owner states below that I was looking at a non-USPS website for tracking info. Incorrect! See attached pic that shows usps website, and estimated delivery of 'forgotten' item was MON. May 6th, after the date I needed it. I forgot to mention there were several broken pieces of olives in the jar, and since I did not see the other half of the broken ones, it tells me they were put into the jar that way. Not attractive for a gift, especially for $20 a jar. (see pic) And lastly, the owner states I did not mention she included a 3 oz jar of a flavored vinegar as a "gift". I didn't mention it, because it was ginger flavored vinegar. Not something I would ever use, I very much dislike the strong taste of ginger. So while the "free gift" of a tiny bottle of vinegar was appreciated in theory, I would have much rather have received the items I actually paid for, and did not have to stress about receiving at a later date and possibly after the day I needed for purpose intended than a 3 ounce gift of something I will not use. The owners offer to refund the cost of the olives if they did not arrive by Sat. is not something that was appealing to me either. As I mentioned to her multiple times, the sole reason for the order was for a jar of Mission Olives for a gift, which I could not find locally. The other items, tiny 3 oz bottles of vinegar and an 8 oz bottle of lemon flavored olive oil, are readily available many places in the San Diego area, and not something I would have ordered online and paid extra premium prices for, they were an add-on so I would meet a threshold not to incur a shipping charge. If the owner of this business is "too busy juggling a lot of balls" to pay any attention to get an online order of only 4 items shipped out correctly and in a timely manner, maybe she should either hire help or not maintain a website in which to order online.

I keep all of them in stock at home.I just can't explain how the flavors add to a recipe. Prep Cooking Classes/Shop in Rossmoor got me hooked on them and there's no going back. This is how authentic they are...if they cannot get quality cilantro, then they hold off on making the Cilantro infused Olive Oil. Chef Elizabeth at Prep teaches different ways to use the oils and vinegars in all kinds of recipes. I can't believe William Sonoma hasn't picked these up because they are better than anything they've ever had on their shelves. Okay, too long but treat yourself to stop by Enfuso and Prep who sells them too. Awesome gift for cooks or someone who has everything.

One of the items that ended up in my cart was a pack of Mishima's instant Hot and Sour soup mix. My $4.79 bought me three individual foiled lined pouches, each with a single serving of Hot and Sour soup mix. The cooking directions were pretty straight forward - Empty the contents of one packet into a soup mug or small bowl. Stir in 2/3 cup boiling water and mix well (more or less according to taste). Let stand for one minute to allow vegetables (tofu, green onions and shiitake mushrooms) to re-hydrate. Now look, I had zero expectations that this small 30-calorie cup of instant soup would taste anything like the silky delicious H&S soup I order at every occasion in an Asian restaurant. However, I will say this had the spicy essence of H&S soup and was a little better than I expected. I supplemented mine with some sauteed mushrooms and shrimp from my freezer and made a decent lunch out of it. Mishima has a pretty nice variety of soups, seasonings, cocktail mixes, sauces, seaweeds, and snacks available through their website. If you live in an Asian food desert, Mishima looks like a pretty solid option.

Eventually, the nation catches up to the 50th state's palate (can you say pokē, Spam musubi, and loco moco?) Furikake is a seasoning that is sprinkled on mainly rice and fish dishes, but has also made its way onto popcorn and into party mix. It's a blend of roasted sesame seeds, dried seaweed, salt, sugar and hydrolyzed soy protein (aka MSG). It's like a Japanese version of a dry rub, if you will. ON RICE: It's the staple in the 808 and goes with almost ever dish, and furikake is the most popular topping. Want to up the ante? My mom makes "koko rice" which is not only topped with furikake but also fukujinzuke (pickled daikon), and salted kombu (seaweed). Another popular take is ochazuke (rice, furikake, and hot tea), the perfect cold weather or under the weather dish. IN POPCORN: Say what?! Don't knock it until you try it! If you've ever gone to the movies in Hawaii, the concession stands always sell furikake and arare (mochi crunch). Buttered popcorn, furikake, arare, ditch the salt. You're welcome. ON FISH: A lot of eateries in Hawaii serve furikake-crusted fish. The added ocean-y flavors of the seaweed and salt make for a more delectable exterior than mac nuts, IMO. IN PARTY MIX: Leave it up to Hawaii to incorporate this Japanese seasoning into an American snack. And it works, for most people. I still prefer plain party mix without the seaweed flavor. THE COMPANY: Mishima Foods sells several versions of furikake, a demi glace sauce, snacks like wasabi peas, powdered soup mixes, and even arare. Their products are found easily in Hawaii as we have a large Asian population. OVERALL: The best-tasting furikake on the market!

When Shishito peppers hit the grocery stores I got a kick out serving them as appetizers and waiting for the 1 pepper to show up and sneak its spicy heat into the mouth of an unsuspecting guest. Most are mild in taste but there's usually always one spicy pepper in the bunch, surprise! I wonder if one could make a living as a Chili Concierge? Kind of like the ball monitor in grade school - that kid was a bouncy genius who could present you with a ball perfect for your playground event be it bounce, size, texture, grip, inflation amount - genius in his own time. I wonder whatever happened to that kid? Today a Chili Concierge could guide you on your spice journey. A chili to add a little sumpin' sumpin' to hot cocoa, one to warm your soul and kick up a casserole or one that says "say hello to my spicy friend, where's the milk?" This really doesn't have anything to do with Hatch chilies other than it's sort of related to the theme. Hatch chilies are a staple in my household today and have been since I was old enough to know I loved spicy hot salsa. Back then the reference to Hatch, New Mexico wasn't even in the vernacular. I grew up on Colorado chilies when bushels were harvested and roasting was popular beginning in August. It was always a scramble to find someone who was in the area and who wouldn't mind loading a bushel or two in their trunk for the ride home. A lot of chilies but we never ran out of family who was happy to take some home. My freezer has a healthy supply of the hot ones and portioned just right for a Hatch Green Chili stew or a Hatch Green Chili Cheeseburger. I'll toss 'em into biscuit batter, Mac n' Cheese or fold them into cream cheese for an epic Sunday toasted bagel. Can you say Hatch quesadilla and your mouth not water? I can't. Anyway, Frieda's has come through more than a few times for me, so it's appropriate to share my love for them. Have no idea about the restaurant so I have no opinion, but if they have Hatch chilies they must be doing at least one thing right. In packages, by the pound or 25, however you roll this is for sure: once that roasted aroma of a Hatch chile crosses your olfactory organ...or you're lucky enough to have tasted one, you'll be hooked for life.

My eldest daughter doesn't care for nuts - she'll eat them on occasion but typically turns down anything with nuts inside. I told her to just take one bite, and she didn't have to finish it if she didn't like it. I swear, her eyes rolled into the back of her head as she bit down - after the first few "Wow" comments, she managed to eek out, with a full mouth, "That texture is absolutely incredible." Needless to say, much to my chagrin, she finished her cookie (I wanted to eat the rest of it). I recommend them slightly warm, but I totally understand if you can't wait the 15 seconds it takes to pop them in the microwave. They're that good.
