Upon moving to the area, Suzanne was my first choice and first stop on a list of temp agencies. I liked that it's small and women-owned. Since they kept me busy during the holiday season, they were the only agency I worked with for about a month. It did slow down a bit after the holidays, but I still received at least two weeks worth of work per month. That may not seem like a lot, but for a small boutique company with no ads or sales, I think it's pretty good. Of course, I would've wanted more work! Who wouldn't? I have to say though, the few assignments I did receive were with wonderful companies and wonderful people. It's good to know they're just as picky about their employers as they are about their employees. The staff...LOVED them! I felt like they took everything we talked about during our initial meeting into consideration when placing me on assignments. My commute, my skills, my abilities, my interests, all taken into consideration. They're fun and personable and they totally get my humor. I liked them! We communicated frequently, even when there wasn't any work for me. I'm actually really shocked that they have reviews on here claiming they're unresponsive. Not my experience at all! I contacted them for everything: directions, resume critique, advice for interviews...everything! They even calmed me down when I got nervous or over-excited. When I met Suzanne, she was so attentive and gave me a world of resources and advice for my job search. When it had slowed down, I signed up with another agency...a bigger agency. Although I had a great interview with them and they called me frequently for assignments, I didn't accept any of the assignments. NONE! It felt like they just tossed me onto a call list. The companies were either not within a reasonable commute or they were of work I told them I was strongly against doing. I was unemployed, not desperate. Sharp contrast to TSS! That other agency had a really friendly staff (they're probably not the worst that's out there), but the agency as a whole lacked the personal touch that TSS has. I said goodbye to Suzanne and family when the first company they placed me with (a non-profit, as I strongly requested during our meeting) hired me permanently. Hire or no hire, I had a great experience with TSS while I was there. Job searching in a new city can be intimidating. I'm happy I did not have to do it alone.

A few months ago, frustrated that I wasn't getting the amount of responses to job applications that…read moreI thought someone with my experience, abilities and accomplishments should receive, I reached out to About Jobs based on a recommendation. For quite some time, I didn't see the point of hiring someone to write my resume, that it was a complete waste of money when I could easily do it myself. Well, just like the time I thought it was a solid idea to forgo hiring a mechanic and just do the work myself, I was oh so wrong. I sent my original point person Alana my resume and she took a considerable amount of time out of her day to (politely) point out why my resume wasn't getting the hits I wanted, asked me lots of questions about my background, experiences and goals and from there, recommended the package she thought would best work for me. Alana also had me consult with her colleague Maryann, who offered her own expertise and insight as to what my resume needed. From there, Alana matched me with a writer from her staff she thought would best capture my voice. That writer, Paula, was truly fantastic. In a lengthy phone interview, she was able to pull information and facts about myself even I had forgotten, to the point where even I was impressed with myself (and I'm a perfectionist). The resulting resume, cover letter and LinkedIn profile were like I had written them, only so much better. Fast forward to now and the ROI has been tremendous. I'm able to apply to jobs in a more efficient way, which is important for someone like me who has limited free time. The amount of responses I've gotten back has improved dramatically, the amount of hits on my LinkedIn page has skyrocketed and it looks like the next chapter of my career will be starting sooner than later. Even in the fourth quarter, historically known to be a quiet hiring period, I am receiving calls almost daily about potential opportunities. Speaking to the About Jobs team, it is apparent this is a crew that really believes in their products, and, just like with my mechanic, I wish I had hired them much sooner. I highly recommend About Jobs to help bring your career to the next level.

I've used their services for years cause clearly i'll never learn my lesson. I've had nothing but bad experiences with them. Whenever i am looking for a job, i am asked to come in, fill out a job application and meet with their headhunters. But i've used their services multiple times. Why is my info not saved in your database? The odd part is, i keep getting asked to come and interview with the same headhunter over and over again. You've met me already. How many times do you need to look at me to perform invisible biased? This means judging me by my looks, height, weight, ethnicity, and whether i am perky enough to send out, etc. It goes on and on. Here is the thing, if they want to collect resumes to sell them to third parties for $$ (allegedly) they should say so. Its so pathetic, unproductive, and just an insult to constantly waste my time and yours to provide false hope. This place is so packed and busy because they are so skilled at creating this illusion they are in high demand with tons of jobs, as if they are placing jobs for everyone in all of NYC and some parts of NJ. That couldn't be the furthest thing from the truth. They are actors getting a paycheck to appear as busy bodies. Sign me up. I wanna get a paycheck and do nothing all day. The last time i was in here, i let the headhunter have it. I called him out on his BS. I told him: Do you seriously want to get me a job or just waste my time? Do you want commission $$ or not? All you do is collect resumes. I've used your services so many times and its been nothing but a dead end. You don't think its odd the last 4 times i used you, i ended up getting a job all on my own? He gagged in silence and just couldn't take my brutal honesty. I wonder how he pays his rent because he surely is not helping anyone in the 5 boros land a job. To close things off, i ended up finding a job all on my own the last 5 times that i was in the market. That is 5 times they missed out on their commission $$ (thousands of dollars). Here is the thing, i am your secondary client. The firm you are recruiting for is your primary client. I get that. But when i send an email asking for a status update, i expect a response. Typing: NO UPDATE is easy. No one is asking for their first born child or a blood sample. I drop to drop everything for them, but they can't type a 5 second email to provide a status update? Really?!? Every time i ask if they are working on any new jobs, i get dead air. This firm really has a pair of elephant sized balls. How they don't bleed when he walks is beyond me. Just unbelievable. I wish them well even though they missed out on commission $$ 5 times in a row. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Brian was incredibly professional throughout my hiring journey while also imbuing the process with a sense of profound investment on his part. I felt like he had my back at all times and, like any great tactician, was able to keep the complexities and logistical stresses of the process veiled so that I could focus on giving the best interviews possible. Because of this, I landed a great new job at an incredible company. It feels silly to write this about a recruiter but I'll sincerely miss our phone calls. Even when the subject matter might have been mildly stress-inducing (what job search doesn't have it's moments?) I always had a smile on my face by the end.
