We waited a year to see how these would stand up in high winds. 2022 has seen some of the strongest winds in the Vegas area in recent years and these sails withstood them without any issue. Depending on your installation, they use 6in steel poles about 13ft high is some cases. (They won't budge once installed) Pros: - Sturdy/Commercial Grade installation - Professional and personal attention to needs for design - Windstood 70+ MPH windstorms - Solid warranty - Provides epic amounts of shade Cons: - They don't do landscaping, when they install the poles, you will need to hire a landscaper to fix the areas around the poles. Unfortunately, we decided to not move forward with the project because of the high cost. But I still wanted to write a review because these guys were very nice and professional. We wanted to get a sail shade for our backyard and saw that this was the only company that did these in the Las Vegas area. Called and spoke to Derek, who was friendly and explained the entire process to me. At the time, Derek and his team were in California because they also have a location in Woodland Hills. He took down my information and told me that I should be getting a call from him in a few weeks when they come back to Nevada. It was kind of difficult to schedule a consultation with them because it seems they spend much more time in California. I mean, I don't blame then since I also used to live there and miss it sometimes. But the option of when they could come out was limited and hard to work with if you work full time. Eventually though, we agreed on a day and time. David came out to take measurements and pictures. My husband said he was very nice and got to see him fly a drone around to take the pictures. About a week and a half later, I received a proposal with detailed sketches and pictures. As much as we wanted this shade, it was too expensive for us. I do understand that they are the only company here and that everything is custom made and of good quality. They also have a good team and communication by text and email was never a problem. As a dermatologist, I wanted a pool for fun and exercise, but I wanted to minimize my family's sun exposure. The first pool company I contacted said they could put a shade structure over a pool; the cover would have been an aluminum structure similar to what you see built over patios. The structure could be built as long as we wanted, but the width would be limited which would have limited the width of the pool. Also, I wasn't sure I liked the look of it. The next pool builder (John Bowles of Oracle Pools) and the one who ultimately built my pool, only does pools, and to my knowledge hadn't had a customer with a similar request. I told John I wanted a sail like structure as they are far more affordable than a custom built framed structure over my pool. John did a search of the internet and gave me the name of Got Shade. I called Got Shade and Derek Warner answered. I told him my planned pool size (18'x40') and he gave me a very rough estimate over the phone. Given the estimate was within budget, I emailed him a copy of the pool plans and he quickly emailed me back a drawing overlaid on the plans and a more accurate estimate. Since the structure was going to be very close to the pool, we decided to get a permit for its construction from the city, else we would have to build it after the pool was completed . If we built the sail shade structure afterwards, we risked not having room and damaging the newly built pool. Getting the structure permitted added thousands to the ultimate cost since it required additional inspectors, an engineer, and being over built to withstand hurricane like winds with massive footings and posts. Also, the city treated it like a habitable structure and required the posts be 5 feet from the property line and 6 feet from the house. This resulted in a smaller structure, since we had originally hoped to put the posts closer to the walls. The city approved the permit but it took a month or more. My biggest trouble was getting the HOA to approve the structure, but after much back forth over months, they finally approved of the structure. Overall, I am quite pleased with the finished structure . We have already had very windy days and the sails barely move. The aged bronze posts and the beige sails fit in well with the neighborhood as both the city and the HOA had demanded. I only had a mild concern about the coordination with the pool builder particularly about connecting the grounding wires to the pool, but it got taken care of very quickly. I've been wanting sail shades in our backyard pool area for several years. I could not locate a local installer in 2016. In April of this year I again began my search. Derek and his team took great care of us. We needed a shade sail above our pool...second picture. The guys measured everything and drafted plans for our HOA approval. The the installation was clean and fast. The sail was installed in late 2015 and still looks brand new even after the 70-80 mph winds we get by the mountains in Summerlin. Our's is wind-rated up to 90 mph. Yes it is fairly expensive at first blush...but the quality of the sail and the installation are surely worth the price. The fabric is guaranteed for 10+ years. We recently wanted to add an additional sail but could not get the HOA approval since it needed to be installed within the set-backs from the property and sight lines.
