Went on a group trip with Gig Harbor Fly shop out of Washington for 5 days. See my other reviews for the fly shop and owner: Blake Merkin. I loved this group because I got to fish the way I wanted to fish: trout spey. While most of the world is single handed fishing, this shop is very familiar with trout spey - also called microspey; Headhunters caters to 2 handed anglers. I am such an angler - I always fish with a 2 hander for steelhead, salmon, ocean surf fishing, bay fishing, and even trout in my local waters. From the time you enter the shop to the time you leave, this store offers more than the square footage of the shop. They have the flies that catch real fish, rods, lines, reels, and clothing & accessories. I was looking for an integrated fishing line for my newly purchased 5wt trout spey rod so I brought along my reel with backing on it ready to buy. But when I could not decide between a scandi or skagit integrated line, the shop was so nice to offer a no cost loaner/demo of the line. They even put their line on their Sage reel plus a tapered leader!. I can not believe a fly shop would offer to do this as all other fly shops I have been into either do not offer a demo program nor would they even offer to let you use a line for free! I ended up buying the line after using it for a day - they definitely know how to gain confidence in their services and products! The best guide out of Headhunters: Whitney Gould - was the best 2 handed guide & instructor I have ever met! Whitney was the only FFF certified casting THCI and multi world champion spey cast distance competitor. She certainly knows how to guide a spey angler on the Missouri big time! She got me onto many stretches of the water where I could get out of the boat, walk & wade into some huge fish. Have to say, it's best day I have had using my 2 handed rod. This shop is a must stop by and I would definitely return to this blue ribbon fishery!

The lodge itself is spacious & beautiful, the chefs - Jeff & Courtney - are 5-star. Every meal we had was of the highest quality and prepared perfectly. The people who work there in the lodge are absolute top notch. We can't say enough great things about Laura, Shamra, Shaunna, Jill and everyone there who made sure that our stay was just perfect. We made some new friends, enjoyed amazing food & drinks and caught fish every day on the river. We both hope to come back again for this experience in the future.

It's worth pointing out that independent travelers going down the river would often stop by and ask our guides how to get to this or that natural or historic spot. We were struggling to find things to do in Helena that were dog friendly outside of your typical…read moreparks, hikes, etc. We almost decided to just drive through to the next town, but then we saw on travel zoo that someone had mentioned they were allowed to bring their dog on the train at Last Chance Tours. So we took a chance and headed over first thing in the morning. They said we could bring our dog along so we bought tickets for the first tour. I'm so glad we did! The tour was great and the open air bus kept things cool with a breeze even in warm temperatures. The engineer was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and I'm honestly shocked at how much I learned about the history of this town. The kids who had him as their 8th grade history teacher were lucky, indeed.I feel like we got to see it all wrapped up in a neat little bow of a 1 hour tour. The price was incredibly reasonable and if you need to use the restroom before or after your tour you can just walk across the street to the Capitol building. They also offered snacks, drinks and souvenirs for purchase. I highly recommend this to anyone visiting the city. I think even long-time residents would find this a fun, interesting and educational activity.

Fun trail riding in the beautiful Montana wilderness outside Augusta. We have been here twice and…read moreplan to return. The staff are warm, fun, and friendly. Good people. Food is good typical Montana fare - light on the veggies, heavy on the bacon. Cook offers options too. Accommodations are individual rustic cabins with a lodge for food, gathering, and Internet. No cell coverage in these woods. What we did here was trail ride in the woods around this ranch. Light fishing & skeet shooting are offered as well as some nighttime talks by local wildlife photographer, and a Native American singer. Great hiking too. They have kid wranglers for younger riders. For trail rides, they break riders into groups by levels so novices and more advanced riders are comfortable. At the end of the week is a fun team competition in the arena to pen cows, barrel race, and jog your horses around poles. Last night is a steak cook out down by the river. Great way to leave city life behind and explore our western lifestyle. Also recommend timing a trip to attend the Augusta rodeo at the end of June. And adding on a river adventure with Montana Outfitters. This ranch is not far from Great Falls and a half day drive from Glacier National Park.
