When I called for directions to the Lodge, I was told that the reservation website had overbooked their rooms and no rooms were available. The owner was terse with me and belittled me for not calling in advance. Unfortunately, we weren't called, so we drove 2 hours only to be turned away. The lesson we learned today was difficult: call before making the drive to this location and make sure they have room available.

Upon walking in the door, Bobby offered a friendly greeting and fantastic tips for local entertainment. We settled in to the Traveler's Suite and then had a great time on the town based on his recommendations. Our room had been ready when we arrived at 2:30pm, even though check-in isn't until 4-6pm. An 11am check-out is appreciated, as other places can be earlier. The entire home is well decorated. The owners had to start from scratch when they bought it in '08 because the previous owners sold everything in the house and left it empty. They've done an amazing job at recreating a historical and luxurious atmosphere. The photos don't do it justice. A comfortable bed with super soft sheets, a flat screen TV, wireless internet, air conditioning and home-made cookies at your disposal are total bonuses. I would stay here even if these amenities and treats weren't available. They were kind enough to put a shower in the claw foot tub in our bathroom, as the general population is a little too spoiled and in a rush to think of just bathing these days. Noise from other guests was not an issue. We were served blueberry pancakes, bacon and fruit for breakfast, which were delicious. I'm always in fear of being served bad coffee, but they get a thumbs up for this too. Our cook for the day, who was filling in, did a great job and was very friendly as well. The exterior and property may need some maintenance, but I think they are slowly working on this. From what I could tell, the interior is impeccable. My spouse and I wanted to stay two nights but the Mansion was booked solid. It would be a riot to return with a group of friends. I'd recommend this place to anyone. It's worth every penny and you certainly don't meet cool people at a breakfast table when staying in a hotel.

I called the Inn to let them know and they were more than understanding, saying that their restaurant would still be open by the time of our arrival and that they would have a glass of wine waiting for us upon our arrival. We did not arrive until 10:00 PM and received a warm greeting and as promised, the bartender was ready to pour us a glass of wine. We were able to sip it on the lovely outdoor eating area and fall asleep on the most comfortable bedding. Seriously, the beds here are magic. Rooms are very small and do not have A/C. Simply opening the window will suffice to bring in some cool air. Each wing has a communal bathroom. Bathrooms have all amenities needed moreover; each room has a cute bag of travel toiletries per bed. The building itself is both charming and formidable. While I see its potential, it is lacking in some upkeep and restoration. This the only downside. Something to note, there is a train that passes quite frequently and can be heard during all hours. This did not phase me in the slightest because of the wine. My favorite part by far was breathing in the fresh air and exploring the grounds in the early morning. The sky was beautiful and I managed to get in some pretty special photographs. It seriously put a smile on my face to see pigs roaming around and chickens out being chickens... With that being said, I would definitely stay here again should I find myself in the area.
