We decided on a whim to do some paddle boarding, and we had been recommended by a friend to try Gorge Performance the day before.

I highly recommend taking a class at Portland Kayak Company! My wife and I were first timers and…read morethe beginners class did such a great job making us feel comfortable on the water. Our instructors were Rose and Margot; both were extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and patient! They even helped me when I fell into the water (yeah, I'm not embarrassed to admit it... I totally fell in the water, haha!). It was totally my fault but both were quick to help me and they did such a great job not making me feel bad about it. Helpful Tips: * If you're taking a class, know that the kayak, the paddle and the life vest are provided. * If you plan to bring your phone with you on the kayak, make sure to bring an airtight bag to keep your phone in it. We had one already but I saw that they sold them in their store, too! Oh, and it's worth mentioning... the company was very understanding even though we arrived five minutes late (our GPS turned us around and we got lost heading to the class). Of course, try your best to avoid being late, but it was great knowing they were understanding about it. It made us feel extremely comfortable! My wife and I are definitely coming back!

He did a great job correcting our strokes. It was clear he had the knowledge of the sport as well as the understanding to be able to offer corrective feedback. I have a service dog and they showed great flexibility in working with me and my dog in and out of the water. It was well worth the money. Overall, my experience with Alder Creek was phenomenal.

The selection here is fantastic, with everything from jackets and hiking shoes to thermal gear and hats, all at factory outlet prices. I've found deals that beat most online discounts, especially during seasonal sales. The staff deserves a shoutout. They're genuinely helpful, not pushy, and always willing to check stock or help you find the right size. You can tell they actually use the products and know what they're talking about. The store is clean, well-organized, and easy to navigate -- no digging through messy racks like some outlets. The checkout process is quick, and the team keeps the line moving even when it gets busy. Pro tip: Sign up for the Columbia Rewards program. I've scored some extra savings and early access to sales that make it worth it. Overall, this is one of the best outlet shopping experiences in the Portland area. Whether you're gearing up for a hike or just looking for a solid rain jacket (we are in the PNW), Columbia has you covered -- literally! LMAO

This Columbia Outlet store had so many great deals, it was overwhelming…read more I stopped by here yesterday afternoon because I'm in the market for some new winter outerwear. I was specifically hoping to find boots and/or a jacket. On top of having an entire floor full of clearance jackets, they also had about a dozen racks under tents outside of the store. It seemed like they probably had every Columbia jacket that had been made within the past few years. There was also a ton of Mountain Hardware and Sorel. The Mountain Hardware jackets were about 25-50% off, which was still significantly cheaper than REI or anywhere else that I know of. I ended up feeling so overwhelmed by the jacket selection that I decided I needed to do some research, and come back. I ended up leaving with two pairs of snow boots: 1 Columbia, and 1 Sorel. I got both pairs for $55, including tax and a very small roundup for the National Park fund. I've been looking for boots for a couple of weeks, and the cheapest I've found comparable boots anywhere else was anywhere from $69-129. So, I was beyond stoked to find two pairs I liked in the clearance section. They were also having a store wide BOGO half-off sale, which is how the total ended up so low. I didn't have, and have actually never had any of the issues with outlet stores that other people brought up in their reviews. I used to work at the outlets in Folsom. Most of the merchandise isn't damaged or defective-- it's just overstock or barely out of season. The boots that I purchased are honestly of similar quality to brand new boots from DSW. I just got really lucky (and have a seventh sense for when things will be on sale due to all my years of working in retail). Staff was super friendly and helpful. Overall a great experience and I would definitely shop here again.

Their gear is rather expensive, that's why I'm not giving it five stars, it's good stuff but not…read morereally a great deal -- except during their sales! And even the sales, on new stuff, tend not to be huge markdowns -- 20 percent for most items, up to 40 percent off on some. They offer these sales online as well. But if you go in person during a sale, you get to see the returned (or "warranty") merchandise, and those are the great deals. Yes, they've been returned by other customers, so there probably is something wrong with them. But the flaws are clearly noted. So if you think you can live with or fix it, go for it (while understanding that you won't get the warranty on these items). For example -- a jacket I liked is normally $199. It was on sale for $159. But they also had a returned one with a little ding in it (a wear spot, not a hole) for $70. Now that's the kind of bargain I seek! I also still wear a pair of rain pants I got a few years ago at one of their sales for $20 (instead of over $100). I also must commend the service. Even during a sale, when they are busy and you might expect less attention, the staff was incredibly helpful. They make suggestions, look for stuff for you, give detailed laundry instructions. I was even told I could bring in the jacket to wash there rather than chance that a public laundry machine might have traces of a detergent that could harm the garment!

But they made the exchange anyway. Maybe it didn't hurt that I was wearing the newest of my three Showers Pass rain jackets, and Showers Pass rain pants, and Showers Pass casual pants. When I ride in the rain, I know Showers Pass gear will keep me comfy.
