How to use your feet and core (not just your arms), and showed us how to get back in our kayaks if we should fall in the water. I was pretty anxious beforehand as there are a lot of watercraft on the willamette, they did a great job of putting us all at ease. The beginners class is 3 hours, park free anywhere on the adjacent street, you can leave your stuff in the shop, and bring a water bottle. All the gear is provided. They provide the kayak best for you based on your height/weight. So don't lie! Highly recommend if you're looking for the basics. If you're expecting a tour sign up for that instead. This was definitely a class where we practiced different strokes. We will definitely be back!

I was specifically hoping to find boots and/or a jacket. On top of having an entire floor full of clearance jackets, they also had about a dozen racks under tents outside of the store. It seemed like they probably had every Columbia jacket that had been made within the past few years. There was also a ton of Mountain Hardware and Sorel. The Mountain Hardware jackets were about 25-50% off, which was still significantly cheaper than REI or anywhere else that I know of. I ended up feeling so overwhelmed by the jacket selection that I decided I needed to do some research, and come back. I ended up leaving with two pairs of snow boots: 1 Columbia, and 1 Sorel. I got both pairs for $55, including tax and a very small roundup for the National Park fund. I've been looking for boots for a couple of weeks, and the cheapest I've found comparable boots anywhere else was anywhere from $69-129. So, I was beyond stoked to find two pairs I liked in the clearance section. They were also having a store wide BOGO half-off sale, which is how the total ended up so low. I didn't have, and have actually never had any of the issues with outlet stores that other people brought up in their reviews. I used to work at the outlets in Folsom. Most of the merchandise isn't damaged or defective-- it's just overstock or barely out of season. The boots that I purchased are honestly of similar quality to brand new boots from DSW. I just got really lucky (and have a seventh sense for when things will be on sale due to all my years of working in retail). Staff was super friendly and helpful. They're the "mecca" for Magic: the Gathering tournaments, singles and card supplies; Warhammer and Games Workshop products; Warmachine/Hordes and Privateer Press products; Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, Dice and RPG supplies; Adventure and Family Boardgames, gaming tables, terrain tables with lots of terrain pieces available for your use, and in-store gaming events. In fact we walked in during a Sunday afternoon card tournament and were greeted warmly by Ron, who knows my son very well. My son's sister and her husband (D&D fans) also hang out here, which was also evidenced by a few crochet pieces that she had donated to the shop. Check in was smooth. The younger guys who gave us the orientation were pretty quick, clear and knowledgeable. While waiting for our orientation the owner Shawn checked in on us to see if we were all set. We pulled out easy. Went north under the bridges, down to Lake Oswego where the kids jumped into the water and swam for a bit. And then continued south to Oregon City and then back! I was most nervous about docking the boat, but they send someone out to you, jump on your boat and dock it for you! Easy! But if you go in person during a sale, you get to see the returned (or "warranty") merchandise, and those are the great deals. Yes, they've been returned by other customers, so there probably is something wrong with them. But the flaws are clearly noted. So if you think you can live with or fix it, go for it (while understanding that you won't get the warranty on these items). For example -- a jacket I liked is normally $199. It was on sale for $159. But they also had a returned one with a little ding in it (a wear spot, not a hole) for $70. Now that's the kind of bargain I seek! I also still wear a pair of rain pants I got a few years ago at one of their sales for $20 (instead of over $100). I also must commend the service. Even during a sale, when they are busy and you might expect less attention, the staff was incredibly helpful. They make suggestions, look for stuff for you, give detailed laundry instructions.
